
Tigers Begin New Year With 3-1 Win Over Central Catholic
The North Allegheny ice hockey team began the new year in style with a 3-1 victory over the Central Catholic Vikings on Tuesday night. The Tigers outshot the Vikings, 40-23, and peppered Vikings goalie Nathanial Cava throughout the evening. NA net minder Richard Karapandi picked up the victory and stopped 22 shots.
The only puck that got past Karapandi came 1:26 into the game when Giovanni Palombo gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead. North Allegheny didn’t wait long to tie the score as Vincent Abel scored an unassisted goal just over three minutes later to even the contest at 1-1.
North Allegheny grabbed the lead 1:13 into the second period on a marker by Vincenzo Mazur, assisted by Dylan Watkins. The Tigers extended the lead to 3-1 thanks to Tyler Putnam’s goal, assisted by Christopher Hanlon, at the 6:40 mark of the third period for the final goal of the night.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 7-3-1 on the season and remains in third place in the Class AAA standings. Central Catholic slips to 2-7-1 on the year. The Tigers will take on Seneca Valley on Monday at 9:00 p.m.
