The North Allegheny ice hockey team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over Central Catholic from the Baierl Ice Complex on Monday night.

The Tigers and Vikings each played a fast-paced and tough first period that ended with no scoring.

The first three goals of the contest came in the middle frame. North Allegheny found the back of the net with less than seven minutes to play in the period on an unassisted even-strength marker from junior Cedric Otey.  Less than five minutes later, freshman Cole Maier scored the first varsity goal of his career, assisted by senior captain Eddie Scherer. Just 19 seconds later, the Tigers struck again. Junior Anthony Lucas took a backhanded shot from an odd angle that found the back of the net, assisted again by Scherer.

NA handled the 3-0 lead until the end of the final period. With the Central Catholic net empty, Otey accepted a pass from senior Joey Mitchell into the offensive zone and scored with less than a second left.

Senior Drew Pompa, who was the only goalie available for the Tigers, earned his first career win and shutout, making 20 saves. He was named Wright Automotive Player of the Game for his efforts.

North Allegheny improves to 6-5 on the season and is back in action next Monday night at home for a matchup with Peters Township. That 9:00 p.m. game will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
