Tigers Defeat Indians In Penguins Cup Semifinal Rematch

In a rematch of last year’s Penguins Cup semifinal, the North Allegheny ice hockey team earned a measure of revenge against Peters Township Indians with a 2-1 victory at Printscape Arena in Southpointe.

Following a scoreless first period, the Tigers asserted themselves with a strong second period and scored the game’s first goal at the 5:13 mark on a marker by junior Travis Lamark for a 1-0 lead. The Lamark goal was assisted by junior En Quan Hi and senior Alex Dorsch. North Allegheny outshot Peters Township, 19-9, in the second period and added another goal at the 11:12 mark on a goal by junior Marc Joyson. The Joyson marker was assisted by senior Aidan Anthony and freshman Jake Fritz.

Coming out of intermission, the reigning Penguins Cup champions played an inspired third period and cut the NA lead to 2-1 just 13 seconds into the period thanks to goal by Drew Alexander. North Allegheny junior goalie Camden Junker shut down the Indians for the remainder of the night and made 29 saves, including 12 in the final stanza, to earn the victory.

Peters Township goalie Kyle Thomas stopped 28 pucks in a losing effort.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Peters Township falls to 1-1. The Tigers will take on Pine-Richland on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 9:00 p.m.
