
Tigers Edged By Vikings In OT Shootout, 3-2
The North Allegheny ice hockey team fell to the Central Catholic Viking, 3-2, in an overtime shootout on Thursday night at the Alpha Ice Complex.
The Tigers seized the early lead with a first period goal by Luke Evans, assisted by Logan Cerqua, for a 1-0 lead. The Vikings tied the game 1:28 into the second period on a marker by Sam Gaffney.
North Allegheny leapfrogged back in front 3:55 into the third period thanks to an Evan Perrotte goal, assisted by Luke Walkaskas, for a 2-1 advantage. Central Catholic answered back with a Josh Moline goal at the 9:24 mark of the third period, tying the score at 2-2. The contest remained deadlocked through one overtime period before the Vikings captured the win in a shootout.
NA goalie Rylan Murphy made 32 saves, while Central Catholic’s Jakob Dold made 19 stops to pick up the victory in net.
The loss drops North Allegheny’s record to 1-0-1 on the young season, while Central Catholic sits at 2-0 on the campaign. The Tigers look to bounce back on Thursday, Oct. 20 against Pine-Richland at 9:10 p.m. at the Baierl Ice Complex. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
