Tigers Open Regular Season with Win Over Blue Devils

The North Allegheny ice hockey team began regular-season play as the calendar flipped to October, winning 3-2 against Mt. Lebanon at the Baierl Ice Complex Thursday night.

The Blue Devils held the early advantage, scoring a shorthanded goal by Xavier Bias late in the first period.

Mt. Lebanon added to the lead about halfway through the second frame on a power-play goal from Will White, assisted by Cameron Mayer and Cooper Church. North Allegheny cut the lead in half about four minutes later, as sophomore Carter Wilson found the back of the net on a shot assisted by fellow sophomore Cole Maier. Lebo held the one-goal advantage heading into the final period. 

NA stormed back in the third, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals. Junior Bryce McCormick scored an even-strength marker with 8:33 to play, assisted by Maier and sophomore Brady Dixon. With just under four minutes left in regulation, senior Cedric Otey scored, assisted by senior captain Anthony Lucas and Dixon. 

Junior Chris Costa made 18 saves in net for the Tigers.

North Allegheny is back in action with another prime matchup against Seneca Valley next Thursday, October 8th, at the Baierl Ice Complex. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:10 p.m.
