Tigers Pulverize Panthers In Road Win
By: Jared Barton
The North Allegheny ice hockey team hit the road to face Upper St. Clair at the Ice Castle Arena on Thursday night. The NA offense exploded for seven goals in the first two periods to win the game 7-1.
It was all Tigers in the first period, as senior Joey Mitchell scored less than two minutes into the contest, assisted by junior Anthony Lucas. Just four seconds later, senior captain Eddie Scherer netted the second goal, assisted by junior Cedric Otey. Later in the period, junior Brady Hornyak scored on the power play, assisted by Lucas and fellow junior Nicholas Pasquale.
Lucas scored to open the second period on an even-strength goal assisted by senior Alex Costa and Mitchell. Hornyak scored his second of the contest, assisted by juniors Luke Direnzo and Marcus Garcia. Lucas added another goal halfway through the period, assisted by Pasquale and Mitchell. USC finally broke the goose egg two minutes later on a Cooper Stutzman marker, but a final power play goal for Tigers senior Kyle Imm, assisted by Mitchell, was the icing on the cake.
Sophomore Chris Costa earned the win in net, making 27 stops.
NA improves to 7-7 on the season and is back in action Monday night for a home matchup with Fox Chapel from the Baierl Ice Complex. That 9:00 puck drop will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
