Tigers Tackle Planets, 66-9, to Claim Outright Section Title
The North Allegheny boys’ wrestling team locked up an outright Section 2-AAA title on Wednesday night with a dominant 66-9 win over Mars at UPMC Court.
The night began at 107 pounds and the Tigers took a 36-0 lead with three consecutive forfeits followed by three straight pin falls enroute to the win. The Planets managed only two victories the entire night, while NA seized control with seven total wins by fall. Achieving pin falls were Casey Walker (127), William Bentrim (133), Griffen Reid (139), Travis Stipetich (152), Kellen Buggey (172), Mason Hartung (189) and Brayden McCarthy (285).
Kellen Buggey took home Wright Autotomotive Wrestler of the Meet honors with a win by fall over Cooper Courson at 172 pounds in 4:35.
North Allegheny improves to 16-3 overall and finishes the section slate with a perfect 5-0 mark. Mars falls to 1-1o overall and finishes in last place in the section with an 0-5 record. The Tigers await the release of the WPIAL playoff pairings and will take part in the WPIAL Team Tournament beginning on Wednesday, January 31.
