Tigers Tame Mountain Lions
The North Allegheny boys’ basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak on Friday night with a 71-53 win at home against Altoona in a non-section game.
The Tigers overcame a slow shooting start in the first quarter to build a 28-15 halftime lead, thanks to outscoring the Mountain Lions 16-5 in the second quarter.
NA continued to get hotter as the game went on, shooting 65.5 percent (19 of 29) from the field in the second half, and finished 46.9 (30 of 64) percent from the field.
Defensively, the Tigers held the Mountain Lions to 42.2 percent (19 of 45) from the field and only 20 percent (2 of 10) from beyond the arc.
The senior duo of Curtis Aiken and Zach Johnson continued to lead North Allegheny. Aiken finished with a game-high 27 points, including 16 in the second half. Johnson was a force down low, finishing with a 12-point and 12-rebound double-double.
The win improves the Tigers record to 6-9 overall. Altoona drops to 5-8 on the season. The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Montour to take on Aliquippa at 6 p.m.
