Tigers Upended By Panthers

The North Allegheny ice hockey team traveled to the South Hills on Thursday and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Upper St. Clair Panthers at the Ice Castle Arena.

The host Panthers got off to a quick start with a pair of first period goals, one by Dylan Yealy and the second by Eli Rankin. The Tigers cut the deficit to 2-1 when Evan Kerber scored an unassisted goal at the 3:47 mark of the second period. Just before intermission, USC regained its two-goal lead courtesy of a goal by Luke Fisher with just 53 seconds left in the second period.

The Tigers attempted to claw back against the Panthers in the third period and trimmed the USC lead to 3-2 on a goal by Luke Walkauskas at the 13:19 mark. Upper St. Clair managed to stave off NA and tallied an empty net goal by Rankin, his second of the night, at the 15:29 mark to secure a 4-2 victory.

Andrew Long drew the start for North Allegheny in net and made 29 saves. USC’s Owen Laurent earned the win and stopped 28 pucks.

North Allegheny falls to 10-4-2 and remains tied for third place with Peters Township despite the loss. Upper St. Clair improves to 8-4-3 and is in a three-way tie for fifth place with Mt. Lebanon and Bethel Park.
