Tigers Vanquish Vikings, 7-2
A five-goal outburst in the third period led North Allegheny to a 7-2 win over Central Catholic on Thursday night from the Alpha Ice Complex.
Central Catholic netted the first goal of the night and only marker of the first period on a goal by Anthony D’Orazio just 14 seconds into the game.
In the second period, NA’s Evan Perrotte tied the game at the 1:58 mark and Evan Kerber gave the Tigers the lead, 2-1, at the 13:48 mark of the stanza.
Following intermission, North Allegheny hit an extra gear with five goals, including markers from Luke Walkauskas, Alex Dorsch, Ed Scherer, Kerber and Jake Fritz to take a commanding 7-1 lead with 5:27 remaining in the game. Central Catholic’s Billy George capped the scoring with a power play goal with 3:07 to play to bring the final score to 7-2, Tigers.
Goalie Andrew Long earned the win with 16 saves.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 4-1 on the season and sits in a three-way tie for first place in the Class AAA standings. Central Catholic falls to 3-2 on the campaign. The Tigers return to action on Tuesday night with a home game against Upper St. Clair at 9:10 p.m.
