Tigers Win 4th Straight With 9-5 Triumph Over Panthers

North Allegheny started fast and finished strong with four goals in the first and third periods, respectively, enroute to a 9-5 win against Upper St. Clair at the Ice Castle in the South Hills. Entering the game, the Panthers had allowed only nine goals in their first three games on the season. Following their matchup with the Tigers, the Panthers goals against total was doubled.

The Tigers buried the Panthers with an avalanche of goals in the opening stanza with markers from Lorenzo Colaizzi, Matt Irvin, Luke Evans and Luke Walkauskas for a 4-0 lead. Upper St. Clair scored four of the next five goals, trimming the NA advantage to 5-4 by the 3:36 mark of the third period.

While the Panthers cut it close, the Tigers answered back in the third period with four more goals to pull away for a 9-5 victory. Trey Gallo netted a pair of goals in the third, along with single goals from Walkauskas and Colin Ruffner. Colaizzi tallied NA’s lone marker in the second period. Irvin and Evan Perrotte dished out four assists each.

For Upper St. Clair, Ruffner and Aaron Starwiarski led the Panthers with two goals each. Stawiarski added three assists.

North Allegheny goalie Andrew Long earned the win with 28 saves. USC starting net minder Timothy Cottrill suffered the loss and stopped nine of 14 shots. Louis Liberatore entered the game in relief of Cottrill and didn’t fair much better, making only six saves on 10 shots faced.

With their fourth consecutive win, the Tigers improve to 5-1 on the season and are tied with Seneca Valley for first place with 10 points in the Class AAA standings. Upper St. Clair falls to 2-2 on the campaign. NA returns to action on Tuesday with a road game against the Peters Township Indians.
