Two Late Goals By Luke Walkauskas Lifts NA to 4-3 Win Over Seneca Valley
Two goals in the third period by sophomore Luke Walkauskas propelled North Allegheny to a thrilling 4-3 comeback win over first-place Seneca Valley on Monday night at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale. Trailing 3-2 with 6:46 remaining, Walkauskas netted back-to-back markers in the final stanza, including the game winner with 1:57 to play, lifting the Tigers to an important late-season win.
With the Raiders leading 1-0 after one period, senior Evan Kerber knotted the score at 1-1 at the 4:52 mark of the second period, assisted by Ryan Jackman and Walkauskas. Seneca Valley regained the advantage at 2-1 before NA again deadlocked the score at 2-2 on a goal by Ed Scherer at the 1:30 mark of the third period. The Scherer goal was assisted by Noah Logan and Evan Perrotte.
In a seesaw affair, the Raiders again pulled ahead when C.J. Gworek scored with 6:46 left in regulation to give SV a 3-2 lead. That set the stage for Walkaskas’ heroics in the waning minutes. With 3:13 remaining, Walkauskas tied the game at 3-3 and then netted the game-winning goal with just 1:57 left to give the Tigers a 4-3 victory.
In net, goalie Camden Junker made 19 saves to earn the win. Seneca Valley’s Cenzo Detullio made 15 stops in a losing effort.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 12-4-2 and pulls into a third-place tie with Peters Township. Seneca Valley slips to 15-4 and remains in first place following the defeat. The Tigers will return to action on Thursday with a visit to Bethel Park at 9:00 p.m.
