Photo by Lisa Failla PINE-RICHLAND EDGES LADY TIGERS FOR WPIAL TITLE The Lady Tigers scored a season high point total at the WPIAL Championships at Moon Middle School on Saturday, but it was not enough. Pine-Richland defeated NA, 148.85-147.0, to end a two-year run by the Lady Tigers. NA has won 18 of the past 24 WPIAL titles. Senior Shannon McConnell, last year's all-around winner, placed third in the Diamond (advanced) Division behind Rae Letterle of Fox chapel and Sarah Hein on Pine-Richland. McConnell tallied 37.15 points. Junior Kelly Stiger was fifth (37.0) and freshman Sarah Wilson came in seventh (36.45). Sophomore Hannah Snyder won all four individual events to win the all-around crown in the Gold (Intermediate) Division with a score of 36.4. WPIAL

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS FINISH REGULAR SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER MOON ON SENIOR NIGHT The Lady Tigers completed their regular season with a 146.0-135.15 victory over Moon at Rising Star Gymnastics on Friday night. The team score was the highest of the year for the Lady Tigers as they get ready for the WPIAL Championships on Saturday. Senior Shannon McConnell led the way with a season high all-around score of 38.6. Freshman Sarah Wilson was next with a 36.1, junior Kelly Stiger followed with a 35.9 with sophomore Hannah Snyder at 35.3. McConnell posted individual scores of 9.7 in vault, bars, and floor along with a 9.5 on beam. Stiger had a 9.6 on floor and a 9.3 on vault while Snyder recorded a 9.2 on floor and a 9.05 on vault. Wilson had a 9.6 on floor exercises. With the win, the Lady Tigers finish in a first-place tie with Pine-Richland for the regular season championship with a record of 13-1. The WPIAL Championship meet will be held on Saturday at Moon Middle School. The meet is scheduled to get under way at 10:30 am. MEET RESULTS
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS EDGE CENTER, 137.95-135.25 The Lady Tigers were able to defeat Center, 137.95-135.25, in a tri-meet at Monaca Turners on Thursday night. Both teams defeated Hopewell in the meet. Senior Shannon McConnell posted a 37.35 All-Around score to pace the Lady Tigers. McConnell scored 9.8 on vault and 9.35 on both bars and beam. Freshman Linnea Homa recorded a 9.10 on vault with junior Kelly Stiger posting a 9.3 also on vault. The wins improved the NA record to 12-1 in regular season competition.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * PINE-RICHLAND EDGES LADY TIGERS, 146.45-145.15 Despite posting their highest team score of the year, the Lady Tigers dropped a close 146.45-145.15 decision to Pine-Richland at Jewart's on Tuesday night. Both NA and Pine-Richland outscored Baldwin's 138.0 to earn victories. Senior Shannon McConnell led NA with a season high all- around score of 36.875. Junior Kelly Stiger was second with a 36.875 with sophomore Hannah Snyder posting a 35.65. McConnell had a 9.8 on vault, a 9.675 on beam, a 9.55 on floor and a 9.5 on bars. Stiger recorded a 9.5 on vault and a 9.425 on beam while Snyder had a 9.25 on vault. Freshman Linnea Homa recorded a 9.05 on vault. With the win and loss, the NA record stands at 10-1 on the year. The Lady Tigers will be back in action again next Thursday when they travel to Monaca Turners to meet Center and Hopewell. Meet time is scheduled for 6:30 pm.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS TOP FOX CHAPEL AND MONTOUR The Lady Tigers defeated both Fox Chapel and Montour at a tri-meet at Fox Chapel on Wednesday night. NA scored 140.9 to Montour's 126.1 and Fox Chapel's 105.525. Junior Kelly Stiger led the way for NA with an all-around total of 36.15. Close behind Stiger were freshman Sarah Wilson with a 35.85 and sophomore Hannah Snyder with a 35.25 in all-around scores. Stiger posted a 9.6 on floor and a 9.35 on vault while Wilson added a 9.2 on vault and a 9.3 on floor. The wins were the eighth and ninth on the year for the Lady Tigers as they remained unbeaten. NA will travel to Jewart's on Tuesday for a rematch with second-place Pine-Richland along with Baldwin. The starting time is scheduled for 6:30 pm.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS BEAT CENTER AND HOPEWELL The Lady Tigers got back on the winning track with wins over Center and Hopewell at Rising Star Gymnastics on Wednesday night. NA scored a season high 145.0 points to Center's 133.25 and Hopewell's 118.05. Senior Shannon McConnell paced the Lady Tigers will a season high 38.10 all-around score. Freshman Sarah Wilson followed with a 35.9, junior Kelly Stiger added a 35.8, and sophomore Hannah Snyder posted a 35.1. On individual events, there were ten NA scores over 9.0. McConnell had a 9.6 on vault, 9.6 on bars, 9.4 on beam and 9.5 on floor. Wilson recorded a 9.5 on floor and a 9.4 on beam while Stiger posted a 9.45 on floor and 9.25 on vault. Snyder added 9.05 on both bars and floor. The wins improved the record to 6-1 on the season. The Lady Tigers will travel to Fox Chapel next Wednesday to meet both the Foxes and Montour in a 6:30 pm meet.

Both NA and Pine-Richland picked up wins over Montour who was third with a score of 126.5. Senior Shannon McConnell paced NA with a 37.35 all-around score followed by freshman Sarah Wilson with a 35.0, junior Kelly Stiger with a 34.80 and sophomore Hannah Snyder with a 33.70. Individually, McConnell posted a 9.8 in the vault, a 9.35 on bars, 9.05 on beam and a 9.15 on floor exercises. Wilson recorded a 9.3 on both vault and floor while Stiger had a 9.25 on vault. The win and loss dropped the NA overall record to 4-1 on the season. The Lady Tigers will be back in action tomorrow night when they host both Center and Hopewell at Rising Star Gymnastics. Meet time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS BEAT BALDWIN AND FOX CHAPEL The Lady Tigers were victorious over Baldwin and Fox Chapel in a tri-meet at Rising Star Gymnastics on Wednesday night. NA edged Baldwin, 141.55-140.55 with Fox Chapel third at 125.9. Senior Shannon McConnell paced NA with an all-around score of 37.35. Junior Kelly Stiger posted a 35.3 with freshman Sarah Wilson third at 34.45. Sophomore Hannah Snyder added a 34.2 for the winning Lady Tigers. McConnell just missed perfection on vault with a 9.9. In addition, the Tiger senior recorded a 9.45 on floor exercises along with a 9.15 on bars. Wilson hit a 9.2 on floor while Stiger added a 9.2 on floor and a 9.0 on vault. Snyder also posted a 9.0 on the floor. With the win, NA improved their overall record to 3-0 on the season. The Lady Tigers will be back in action again on Monday, January 9, when they face Pine-Richland and Montour at Montour. Meet time is scheduled for 6:30 pm.

TO LADY The defending WPIAL Champion Lady Tigers successfully opened the 2005-06 season with a 141-133.35 victory over the Moon Tigers at Moon on Thursday night. Senior Shannon McConnell led the way for NA with an all-around score of 36.4. Sophomore Hannah Snyder was second with a 35.35 while junior Kelly Stiger and freshman Sarah Wilson were a point behind at 34.6 and 34.5 respectfully. On individual events, McConnell posted an impressive 9.65 on vault, a 9.2 on floor and a 9.15 on the bars. Three additional Lady Tigers scored over 9.0 . Snyder hit a 9.3 on vault and 9.0 on bars, Stiger recorded a 9.4 on vault and a 9.05 on floor exercises, and Wilson added a 9.1 on vault. For Moon, Branigan Shipman led with a 33.6 all around score followed by Bethany Storm with a 33.25. No Moon gymnast recorded a score of 9.0 on individual events. The Lady Tigers will be back in action again on Wednesday, December 21, when they host Fox Chapel and Baldwin. Meet time is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Rising Star gymnastics.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * McCONNELL SIGNS TO ATTEND UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH Senior Shannon McConnell signed a Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh. Shannon was the gold medalist at the 2004-05 WPIAL Gymnastics Championships. Shannon also won the gold medal in the balance beam, parallel bars and floor exercises. In addition, Shannon was the Advanced All-Around Championship. Shannon is a three-year letter winner and co-captain. North Allegheny has won two consecutive WPIAL Team Gymnastics Championships. Shannon is the daughter of Jim and Luann McConnell. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WPIAL GYMNASTICS - 2005-06 The Lady Tigers will compete again in the WPIAL against seven other teams. WPIAL competition will begin on December 5, 2005, and must be completed according to the schedule. The WPIAL individual championship will be held on February 11, 2005, at Moon Middle School. The individual championship is open to all competitors who have achieved the qualifying scores posted on the WPIAL website. All individual qualifying scores for members of teams entered in the WPIAL program must be earned in a regular scheduled meet in which their team competes. No team member can compete as an individual at another school for a qualifying score. Students who participate as an individual or as a member of a team in a gymnastic program other than that of her school while she is participating for the school team shall be ineligible to take part in the WPIAL or PIAa championship events unless she has been in uniform and available to participate as a member of her school team for at least 75 percent of the contests beginning with the team's first interscholastic contest of the regular season. In all dual meets a team may enter five competitors for each event, but only the scores of four of them can count toward the final score of the meet. 1. Dual meets with one competition event at a time, alternating competition style will be used, with one exhibition routine per team per event being permitted. 2. Dual meets with two competition events running simultaneously, block style competition will be used, with up to five exhibition routines per team per event being permitted. 3. Tri meets will have two competition events running simultaneously, block style competition will be used, with up to two exhibition routines per team per event being permitted.
