GIL WINS STATE INDOOR TITLE

Meet Results

Junior Sean Gil won the PTFCA State Championship in the pole vault on Saturday at Penn State with a vault of 15'6".  Senior Max Brown finished fourth in the mile, junior Jade Hambrick was eighth in the shot put and senior Kevin Kovatch was eighth in the pole vault.

In other boys' results, Brown finished in 9th place in the 800, senior Billy Knight 11th in the pole vault, and junior Garrett Larkin 11th in the shot put.  For the girls, junior Kristen Zeleznik was 11th in the pole vault and junior Kelly Langhans finished in 12th place in the 400.

GIL, BROWN CONTINUE TO POST HIGH MARKS

The indoor track season continued with meets at Slippery Rock on May 4 and at the University of Pittsburgh on Wednesday.  Junior Sean Gil continued to lead the way in the indoor season as he improved his best vault to 15'3 at Slippery Rock.  At Pitt, Gil won the event with a 14' 6.  Senior Max Brown ran a 4:19.3 mile at Slippery Rock and followed it with a 1:59.5 in the 800.

At Slippery Rock, senior Bill Knight was 5th and Kevin Kovatch sixth in the pole vault.  Junior Kelly Langhans won the 400 meters at the Rock with a time of 1:01.8 with senior Lindsay Appel right behind her in second with a 1:01.9.  The girls' 4x400 relay team took a second behind Penn Hills with a 4:10.2.  Junior Kristen Zeleznik was second in the pole vault with a 10'7".

At Pitt, Brown won the 880 yard run with a time of 2:00.0.  In the 3000 meters, senior Patrick Baxter place second with a 9:23.8 while sophomore Patrick Morgan was fifth in the mile.  Junior Garrett Larkin took second in the shot put with a 53'2.25" toss.  Freshman Brian Austin was second in the high jump with a 5'7" while Kovatch was fourth in the pole vault.

In the girls' competition at Pitt, senior Michelle Diez won the 880 with a 2:29.1.  In the 440, Langhans was second and Appel third.  Junior Jade Hambrick place 4th in the shot, sophomore Cecily Sunday was 6th in the long jump, and Zeleznik captured second in the pole vault.

The next event for the indoor season will be the Tri-State Coaches Association Championship at Robert Morris University.  The meet will be held on Saturday, February 18, with the starting time set for 1:00 pm.

TIGER POLE VAULTERS LEAD THE FIELD IN
INDOOR SEASON

Led by junior Sean Gil, the Tiger pole vaulters have been the leaders in the indoor season to this point.  Gil matched his season high of 15-0 at Slippery Rock on January 20 and placed first with a 14-7 at the University of Pittsburgh last Friday.  Senior Bill Knight was fourth at both meets while senior Kevin Kovatch was third at the Rock and fifth at Pitt.

The Lady Tigers also pole vaulted well with as junior Kristen Zeleznik took a second place at Pitt with a 10-1 and a fourth at Slippery Rock.  Sophomore Cecily Sunday was 6th at Pitt.  Also in field events, senior Adam Hambrick placed fourth in the shot at Pitt.  In the women's shot put, junior Jade Hambrick came in third at Pitt with a 36-10 and 5th at Slilppery Rock with a 37-10.5.  Junior Melissa Kozak was was fifth at Pitt.  In the long jump, junior Maura Higgins was third at Pitt with a jump of 16-3.75. 

On the track, two relay teams won events at Pitt. In the 4 x 880 yard relay, the Tigers place first with a time of 8:37.5 while the distance medley relay also won with a time of 11:23.4.  At Slippery Rock, the 4 x 800 meter team was second.  Freshman Doug Healy took sixth at Skippery Rock with a time of 5:09.0.  In women's events, the 4 x 400 meter relay team was second at Pitt.

The Tigers will compete in the TSTCA meet at Slippery Rock on Saturday with action getting under way at 9:00 am.

BROWN, GIL POST IMPRESSIVE RESULTS
IN EARLY MEETS

Meet Results

Senior Max Brown ran a state best 8:50.9 in the 3000 meters at the TSTCA meet at the University of Pittsburgh on January 11.  In the same meet, junior Sean Gil led a trio of NA pole vaulters with a 15-0 vault to win the event.  Gil's height was also the best in Pennsylvania this year.  Senior Kevin Kovatch was fourth and senior Bill Knight fifth.  Junior Garrett Larkin was third in the shot put with a distance of 49-1 with senior Adam Hambrick earning 7th place.  Collin Burry picked up a fifth in the 880 yards.

For the Lady Tigers, junior Maura Higgins place second in the long jump with a 15-2.  Junior Jade Hambrick was fourth in the shot put.

Earlier in a meet at Slippery Rock University on January 6th, Brown won the mile with a time of 4:24.5  Senior Patrick Baxter came in 7th.  In the pole vault, Kovatch took first with Knight second.  Burry placed seventh in the 800 meters.  The NA 4x800 meter relay team captured second place.

For the Lady Tigers, senior Lindsay Appel was fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:06.2.  Higgins took fourth in the triple jumpe with a leap of 33'7.5" while Jade Hambrick was fifth in the shot put.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again on Friday at Slippery Rock with meet time scheduled for 4:00 pm.  Events scheduled to be run include 3000 meter, 4x800 and 4x400 meter relays, 55 meter and 55 meter hurdles, 200, 400 and 800 meter runs, Mile, shot put, high jump, pole vault and triple jump.
