To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Seneca Valley pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat the Lady Tigers, 49-36, at the Senior High gym on Wednesday night.  Freshman Kelly Brennan led NA with 15 points and led a rally that cut the SV lead to five points in the fourth quarter but fell short.  Junior Andrea Elmore netted seven points for NA.

The Lady Tigers got off to a great start scoring the first nine points of the game.  After Brennan drove the baseline to open the scoring, junior Katie Polley added a put back after several attempts to push the margin to 4-0 just 1:11 into the contest.  Brennan drove and scored again and added the foul shot as the lead went to 7-0.  Senior Ginny Thistle made a nice move under the hoop to give NA a 9-0 advantage with 5:12 remaining in the quarter.  Seneca Valley rallied, however, to score the next nine points to tie the game.  A basket by Jackie Mangola, two foul shots by Nicole Roche, a triple from Aly Eagle and a layup by Shayna Elser brought the Raiders into a 9-9 tie.  Brennan hit on one of two from the line to put NA back on top, 10-9, with 1:08 left.  It would be the last lead of the game for NA.  Mangola's basket with 52.6 seconds left gave Seneca Valley an 11-10 advamtage after one quarter of play.

Seneca Valley scored the first seven points of the second stanza with Kelsey Patsilevas and Eagle both making two free throws and Eagle adding a basket to give the Raiders a 17-10 lead early in the quarter.  Brennan came back with a triple to cut the margin to 17-13 with 5:14 left.  Thistle added another hoop from under the basket, but Catherine Messmer answered from down low to make it 19-15.  After Thistle made one of two from the line, Mangola came back to also split a pair of free throws as the score went to 20-16 with 2:11 left.  Eagle scored on a put back to extend the lead to six.  After Elmore hit one of two foul shots, Messmer scored as time was running out to give the Raiders a 24-17 lead at the intermission.

After Mangola opened the second half scoring with two foul shots, Elmore answered with two from the line to make it a 26-19 game.  Megan Gebrosky drove for a layup and Messmer scored from under the basket as the Raiders increased the margin to 30-19 with 4:56 left in the quarter.  Messmer then stole the ball and scored again to increased the margin to 32-19.  After an NA time out, a foul shot by Brennan, two of three from the line by junior Julie Figan, and a jumper by Figan cut the margin to 34-24 with 2:34 remaining.  NA continued to battle back with Brennan draining another trey and junior Dawn Murphy making one of two free throws as the Lady Tigers cut the lead to 34-28 at the end of the third quarter.

In the final stanza, baskets by Elser on a drive and Eagle extended the lead to 38-28 with 4:41 remaining as NA could not convert on a number of opportunities to get back in the game.  Two free thorws by Brennan and a put back by Elmore cut the lead to 38-32 with 3:30 remaining.  After Elser made one of two free throws, Elmore scored again to make it a 39-34 game with 3:04 still left.  Eagle scored again, but junior Jackie Lang, who was in foul trouble for most of the game, drove for a basket to cut the margin to five again at 41-36 with 2:11 left.  NA would not score again as Seneca Valley scored the final eight points of the game.  Two free throws by Gebrosky, a basket by Messmer, two more foul shots by Gebrosky and a hoop by Messmer with twelve seconds left secured the 49-36 win for the Raiders.

It was a tough loss for the Lady Tigers on a night that the ball would not go in the basket.  NA made only 11 of 48 (22.9%) from the field and just 2 of 16 (12.5%) from beyond the arc.  In addition, the Lady Tigers could convert on only 12 of 22 (54.5%) from the line.  The Raiders hit on 17 of 48 (35.4%) from the floor, 1 of 6 (16.7%) from three-point land, but did make 14 of 18 from the line for a 77.8%.  NA committed 21 turnovers that the Raiders converted into 16 points.  In the paint, SV had a 28-14 advantage.  In addition, the Raider bench outscored the NA bench, 17-8.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Kelly Brennan as the Player of the Game.

With the loss, the NA section record fell to 0-4, the overall mark to 5-6 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Butler tomorrow night for another section contest.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 6:15 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 6:30 pm.

LADY TIGERS RALLY TO DEFEAT BETHEL PARK, 40-37,
TO WIN NA HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Junior Julie Figan scored 16 points, including the final five, as the Lady Tigers rallied to defeat Bethel Park, 40-37, in the championship game of the NA Holiday Tournament on Friday night at the Senior High gym.  The Blackhawks had built a 32-20 lead late in the third quarter before NA came back to win.

Senior Jackie Lang gave NA a 2-0 lead just 29 seconds into the contest, but it would be the last time the Lady Tigers led until late in the game.  Freshman Candace Martino drained a trey from the left side to put BP ahead, 3-2.  A pair of baskets by 6-1 sophomore Danielle McNabb and a short banker by Shannon Hagerty extended the lead to 9-2 with 3:50 left in the quarter.  Lang and Figan both hit one of two from the line and freshman guard Kelly Brennan drove for a hoop as the Lady Tigers cut the margin to 9-6 after one quarter.

Strong defense dominated play in the second quarter as both teams had trouble scoring.  After Erin Varley drove the lane to push the lead to 11-6, Figan came back with a jumper to cut the margin to three.  McNabb scored the next five points, hitting a pair of free throws and completed a conventional three-point play as the Blackhawks took a 16-11 advantage with 4:13 remaining.  Junior Dawn Murphy drove and scored before Varley dropped in one of two from the line to make it 17-13 with 2:39 left in the half.  Neither team scored again as the Blackhawks took the four-point lead to the intermission.

Figan scored just ten seconds into the third quarter to cut the lead to 17-15, but Bethel Park scored the next eleven points.  Martino drained three straight triples and McNabb added a deuce with a nice move in the paint as the Blackhawks took a 28-15 lead with 4:38 left in the quarter.  After Lang got loose in the lane, Figan drained a triple from the corner to make it 28-20 with 3:17 still on the third quarter clock.  Hoops by McNab and 6-1 senior Bridget Belich extended the margin to 32-20, the biggest lead of the game.  Figan again answered with a three as NA went into the final quarter trailing, 32-23.

Brennan started the Lady Tiger comeback with a trey from the left side to cut the lead to 32-26 just 45 seconds into the fourth quarter.  McNab answered with another conventional three-point play to push the margin back to nine at 35-26 with 6:48 remaining.  It would be the last field goal of the game by Bethel Park as NA turned up the defensive pressure.  Using a full court press to try to neutralize BP's ball control game, the Lady Tigers slowly got back into the contest.  Junior Andrea Elmore came off the NA bench to hit a short jumper to cut the margin to 35-28 with 4:17 remaining.  Murphy followed with a long triple as NA got within four at 35-31 with 3:47 still left in the game.  After Elmore hit two free throws to make it a two-point game, Krista Krebs answered with a pair of foul shots to push the margin back to four at 37-33 wit 1:29 remaining.  Lang drove the lane, was fouled and dropped in both to again cut the margin to two at 37-35 with 1:09 left.  After the NA defense forced a Blackhawk turnover, Brennan found Figan open on the right side and the NA junior drained the triple to give the Lady Tigers a 38-37 advantage with 28 seconds on the clock.  The Blackhawks worked the ball down low but missed a short jumper with NA grabbing the rebound.  BP was forced to foul and Figan made both free throws to extend the margin to 40-37 with 12.4 remaining.  After a time out, Bethel tried to set up a game tying triple but never got the shot away as time ran out.  The Lady Tigers had completed the comeback by outscoring BP, 17-5, in the fourth quarter to win the title in the NA Holiday Tournament.

It was an important win for the Lady Tigers as they picked up their third consecutive victory and evened their overall record at 5-5.  Statistically, NA made 12 of 42 from the floor for 28.7%, but found the range on five for thirteen from beyond the arc (38.5%) including the game winner.  At the foul line, NA was 11 for 15 (73.3%) including six for six in the fourth quarter.  Bethel Park shot 37.1% (13-35) from the field and four for nine from long range (44.4%).  The Blackhawks also converted 7 for 8 from the stripe (87.5%).  The NA defense forced 15 turnovers good for 8 points, none bigger than the last one that resulted in the winning three-point basket by Figan.

The Lady Tigers placed three on the All-Tournament team.  Figan was named the MVP of the tournament with Lang and Brennan earning spots on the All-Tournament team.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network also selected Julie Figan as the Player of the Game.

With the win, the Lady Tigers evened their overall record at 5-5.  NA will host Seneca Valley on Wednesday as section play resumes.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 4:45 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 5:00 pm.

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Juniors Jackie Lang and Julie Figan dropped in 20 points each but it was not enough as Norwin defeated the Lady Tigers, 73-60, in a non-section game at the Senior High gym on Tuesday night.  NA did not have an answer for Manhattan College recruit Lyndsay Loutzenhizer who scored 31 points to pace the Knights.

Figan started the Lady Tigers off in the right direction with a trey just 33 seconds into the contest.  After Loutzenhizer scored down low, Lang made one of two from the line to tie the game at 4-4.  Loutzenhizer scored again with 4:42 remaining in the quarter to give the Knights the lead for good at 6-4.  Nicki Constabile and Emily Duncan added hoops to push the lead to 10-4 before Lang was able to score from the paint.  Figan's second trey of the quarter cut the lead to 10-9, but that's as close as NA would get for the remainder of the game.  The Knights closed out the first quarter with triples form Loutzenhizer and Casey Batey as Norwin took a 16-9 lead.

After Loutzenhizer opened the second half scoring on a pass from Duncan, Lang hit a pair of foul shots to make it 18-11.  Loutzenhizer scored again and Lang answered again with free throws.  Freshman Kelly Brennan hit a long trey to cut the margin to 20-16 with 5:28 still left in the period.  Duncan then drove the middle to score and add a foul shot, but Lang scored again to cut the lead to 23-18.  There was no stopping Loutzenhizer as she hit another pair of field goals around a hoop by senior Laura Sudo as Norwin took a 27-20 lead with 1:41 remaining in the half.  Shelly Springer came off the bench to score for the Knights, and Duncan added another basket as Norwin went to the intermission with a 31-20 advantage.

Early in the third quarter, Lang stepped out behind the arc to drain a trey, but Loutzenhizer answered to restore the lead to ten at 33-23.  Brennan came back with another triple as NA battled to stay in the game.  Batey scored on a put back and Duncan drove for another basket to push the margin to 37-26.  After Constabile hit a short jumper, Lang put in two more free throws.  Constabile answered, but Figan threw in a long trey and Lang scored on a put back as the Lady Tigers crept to within six at 39-33 with 4:23 left in the quarter.  Norwin then went on a 10-0 run before Figan hit her second triple of the quarter to make it a 49-36 game.  Constabile ended the quarter with a trey with only five seconds remaining as the Knights took a commanding 52-36 lead into the final quarter.

After senior Ginny Thistle hit two free throws at the 1:11 mark, Loutzenhizer hit a pair of layups and Constabile scored two more times as Norwin took its biggest lead of the game at 60-38 with 5:32 left.  NA kept fighting back, however, as senior Katie Polley hit a layup and foul shot with sophomore Becca Aul adding a put back to cut the lead to 60-43.  After Batey made one of two from the line, Figan hit a jumper and junior Andrea Elmore hit a baseline jumper to cut the margin to 61-47.  Constabile answered with a three before Elmore made one of two from the stripe to make it a 64-48 game with 3:10 remaining.  After Duncan scored, Figan hit two consecutive treys to cut the margin to 66-54.  Elmore's put back further cut into the Knight lead as NA trailed by ten with 1:43 left.  Two foul shots by Nikki Brenner were answered by two from Lang to make it 68-58 with 57 seconds left.  Two more foul shots by Brenner, a basket by Loutzenhizer, and one of two from the line by Batey pushed the lead to 73-58 with just 13.2 on the clock.  Two more foul shots by Lang made the final score, 73-60, as the Knights went to 8-0 on the season.

The Knights won the battle of the statistics shooting 55.4% on 31 of 56 from the floor.  The Knights were also 4 for 7 (57.1%) from beyond the arc and 7-10 (70.0%) from the foul line.  NA made only 18 of 61 from the floor (29.5%) but were 9 for 21 from three-point land (42.9%).  Once again, the Lady Tigers were tough from the foul line, making 15 of 18 (83.3%) with Lang continuing her hot pace with 11 for 12.  Lang is now 44 for 48 on the season (91.7%).  Lang pulled down 10 rebounds to pace NA.  Figan was six of ten from three-point range.

It was a good effort at times for the Lady Tigers against a good Norwin team.  The Knights were able to win the game in the paint, outscoring NA, 42-6.  For her efforts at the offensive end, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Julie Figan as the Player of the Game.  With the loss, the Lady Tigers overall record fell to 2-4 on the season.  NA will host #1 New Castle on Friday night as section play resumes.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 6:15 pm.

The Rams jumped off to a quick start with good shooting and NA turnovers accounting for the edge.  Tori Pikur hit a three and a deuce early to give P-R a 5-0 advantage at the 4:59 mark of the first quarter.  After Emily Karr hit another triple, junior Julie Figan scored the first Lady Tiger basket to make it 8-2 with 2:59 left.  A trey by Katie Wise and two of three from the line by Karr extended the margin to 13-2 before freshman Kelly Brennan drove for a hoop with 14 seconds left.  The Rams took a 13-4 lead into the second quarter.

Things did not get any better for NA in the second quarter as the Rams scored the first ten points as Emma Richert hit a deuce and a trey, Carolyn Steger dropped in a pair of free throws, and Richert drained another trey as the lead went to 23-4.  Murphy came back to hit a triple before Wise scored to make it 25-7.  After Thistle converted on a pair of foul shots, Pikur added a field goal to push the lead to 27-9 with 30 seconds remaining in the half.  Brennan dropped in two free throws with two seconds left, but Pine-Richland took a commanding 27-11 lead to the intermission.  The Rams scored 18 points on NA turnovers in the first half.

The Lady Tigers came out in a full court press in the second half and forced the Rams into several turnovers.  Neither team could score early until Lang made two foul shots with 5:31 remaining.  Lang then scored on a put back as NA cut the lead to 27-15 before Richert drained a trey to push it back to 30-15.  NA kept plugging away with Lang hitting on four for four from the line, but another triple by Steger made it a 33-19 game.  Thistle was fouled twice going to the hoop and made four for four with Amy Brandner and Steger both hitting one for two from the line as NA cut the margin to 35-23.  A hoop by Brennan and two more free throws by Lang cut the deficit to eight points at 35-27.  A four-point play by Steger on a triple and a foul shot pushed the margin back to twelve at 39-27.  Figan then scored and Thistle hit two from the line with seven seconds left in the quarter as the Lady Tigers went into the final period trailing by eight at 39-31.  NA outscored the Rams, 20-12, in the quarter converting on fourteen of fourteen from the foul line.

Just ten seconds into the final period, Wise made two from the line to restore a ten-point lead.  Murphy drove for a layup to cut it to eight again, but Pikur answered with a trey to make it 44-33.  Two foul shots by Lang and a hoop by Thistle cut the lead to seven at 44-37 with 3:48 remaining in the game.  After Karr made two foul shots, Lang scored on a put back to cut the lead to 46-39.  Two foul shots in four attempts by the Rams made it a 48-39 game.  The Lady Tigers would not quit, however, as Murphy drained a trey before Richert made one of two from the line.  Lang's basket cut the lead to 49-44 with 2:08 left.  After Wise scored on a layup, senior Laura Sudo scored on a put back and added the foul shot to cut the lead to 51-47 with 1:23 remaining.  A ;foul shot by Richert made it 52-47 with 19.2 on the clock.  Murphy then hit a long trey to cut the margin to 52-50 with 10.3 left in the game.  Richert was fouled quickly, but made both attempts.  After the Lady Tigers missed a shot, Steger was fouled on the rebound.  Steger made one of two as the Rams held on for the 55-50 victory.

It was a great comeback by NA as they fell just short of catching the Ram.  Statistically, the Lady Tigers had trouble finding the basket making only 13 of 45 from the field (28.9%) and 3 of 13 (23.1%) from three-point land.  From the foul line, however, NA was perfect dropping in 21 of 21 (100.0%).  Lang was ten for ten and Thistle eight for eight for NA.  Pine-Richland was not much better hitting on 14 of 51 (27.5%) from the field but making 9 of 24 (37.5%) from beyond the arc.  From the foul line, the Rams were 18 of 28 (64.3%).  For her efforts in leading the NA comeback, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Dawn Murphy as the Player of the Game.

With the loss, the NA section record dropped to 0-2, the overall mark to 2-3 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will host Norwin on Tuesday night at the Senior High gym.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

Junior forward Jackie Lang scored 21 points and senior forward Ginny Thistle added 10 more to lead the Lady Tigers to a 49-45 victory over McDowell in the consolation game of the NA Tipoff Tournament at the Senior High gym on Saturday afternoon.  The win was the first of the season and the first for Coach Sherri McConnell at NA.

Both teams got off to a slow shooting start with Thistle giving NA a 3-0 lead on a conventional three-point play 1:43 into the contest.  Abby Schaaf answered with a trey for the Lady Trojans to tie the game.  Lang scored on a put back with 2:25 remaining and added another basket 40 seconds later to put NA on top, 7-3.  Two free throws by Jenna Krause and a shot from under the basket by 6-2 Becky Innes tied the game at 7-7 with 23.5 seconds left on the first quarter clock.  Freshman Kelly Brennan drove the lane and dropped in a layup with just a second left to give the Lady Tigers a 9-7 advantage after one quarter.

Lang scored on another put back early in the second quarter before baskets by Innes and Allison Brown tied the game at 11-11 at the 2:10 mark.  With both teams running a patient offense, Lang put the Lady Tigers back ahead again, 13-11, with 5:16 remaining.  After Schaaf tied the game at 13-13, one of two from the line by Maddie Hahesy gave McDowell their first lead of the game at 14-13 with 1:47 remaining in the half.  Kelly Brennan answered to give the lead back to NA with 41 seconds left.  After Lindsay Oberacker scored from under the basket, Thistle dropped in a short runner with 10 seconds remaining as the Lady Tigers took a 17-16 lead to the intermission.

The scoring picked up somewhat in the third quarter with Oberacker scoring a pair of hoops, one on a put back, to give the Lady Trojans a 20-17 lead early in the period.  NA then went on a 5-0 run to recapture the advantage with Lang hitting a pair of free throws and junior forward Julie Figan draining a long three as the Lady Tigers took a 24-20 lead.  Christie Spear answered with a trey, but Lang dropped in two more foul shots to make it a 26-23 game.  After Leah Krause came off the McDowell bench to cut the lead to one, NA again went on another  5-0 run.  A three point play by Lang and a basket by Kelly Brennan pushed the margin to 31-25 with 1:11 left in the quarter.  McDowell answered with a trey from Leah Krause before sophomore Alysia Libby made one of two from the line to finish the third quarter scoring.  The Lady Tigers took a 32-28 lead into the final period.

Lang started the fourth quarter with two more foul shots before Hahesy hit a baseline jumper to make it 34-30.  Schaaf then drained a long trey to cut the lead to one before Lang went back to the line for another two free throws.  With NA up, 36-33, McDowell rallied to retake the lead.   After Innes got loose under the basket for a hoop, Spear stole the back and made a layup to put the Lady Trojans ahead, 37-36.  It would be the last McDowell lead of the game.  Two foul shots by Thistle, and a basket from just inside the arc by Libby made it a 40-37 NA advantage.  Thistle scored again from under the hoop and Libby stepped behind the line for a trey as the Lady Tiger lead went to 45-37.  After the teams exchanged foul shots, McDowell rallied behind a basket by Jenna Krause and a trey by Leah Krause to cut the NA lead to 47-43 with 20 seconds remaining.  After Figan made one of two from the stripe, Hahesy scored to cut the lead to 48-45 with 6.4 seconds left in the game.  Kelly Brennan then made one of two from the line to secure the victory as the Lady Tigers went on to the 49-45 win.

It was another good defensive effort by the Lady Tigers in holding a good McDowell team to just 45 points.  Statistically, NA improved their shooting stats converting on 18 of 51 from the floor for a 35.3%.  From behind the arc, the Lady Tigers were 5 of 12 (41.7%).  At the foul line, Lang converted her perfect streak with a 9-for-9 that gives her 20-for-20 on the season!  Overall, NA was 17 of 25 from the line.  McDowell made only 15 of 56 shots (26.8%) and only four of ten from the stripe.  Lang had another good day on the boards pulling down 15 rebounds.  There were five ties and eight lead changes in the contest.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Ginny Thistle as the Player of the Game.

With the win, the Lady Tigers evened their record at 1-1 in the early season.  NA will travel to Altoona tomorrow night for a 7:00 pm section contest in preparation for the section opener at Shaler on Thursday night.

IN NA TIPOFF TOURNAMENT

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Lady Tigers battled Mars on even terms for most of the evening, but the Planets were able to hold on for a 55-46 victory in the first round of the NA Tipoff Tournament at the Senior High gym on Friday night.  Junior Jackie Lang led NA with 17 points while junior Julie Figan added 14 for the Lady Tigers.

Mars started quickly behind the play of junior Lily Grenci as they built a 14-5 lead.  After Grenci hit a short jumper just 12 seconds into the contest, Lang came back with a pair of free throws to make it a 3-2 game.  After Mars made two foul shots, Grenci came back to score five straight points to extend the margin to 9-2.  Junior Dawn Murphy answered with a long trey to cut the lead to four, but Grenci scored a conventional three-point play and Ellen Kenitz added a field goal to extend the margin to 14-5.  Figan came back with a triple with 3:34 left in the quarter, and Lang converted on four straight from the line to cut the lead to 14-12.  Kenitz scored from inside with 46 seconds remaining as Mars took a 16-12 lead after one quarter.

The Lady Tigers went into a full court press in the second quarter and forced several Mars turnovers.  Lang continued to be perfect from the line and scored four straight to tie the game at 16-16 just 1:09 into the quarter.  After Victoria Gressang made one of two free throws, Lang's drive to the hoop put the Lady Tigers on top for the first time at 18-17.  Figan added one of two from the stripe to extend the led to 19-17.  The Planets then went on a 7-0 run to regain the lead.  After Karly Takach dropped in a free throw, Grenci scored again to make it a 20-19 Mars lead.  Two free throws form Gressang and a hoop by Takach completed the run as Mars pushed the lead to 24-19.  Figan ended the run with a jumper before Katie Demetriadis hit one of two from the line.  After Lang hit two more free throws, giving her ten for ten in the half, senior Megan Brennan put the Lady Tigers on top, 26-25, with a hoop with just 14.3 seconds remaining.  Grenci came right back, however, to score with 8 seconds left as Mars took a 27-26 advantage to the intermission.

After Grenci opened the second half scoring, Figan answered as Mars held a 29-28 lead just 1:20 into the period.  Two hoops by Kenitz and another by Grenci pushed the margin to 35-28 before Figan hit a long trey with 3:11 remaining.  Kenitz answered with another shot from under the basket as the lead went back to six at 37-31.  The Lady Tigers battled back with senior Ginny Thistle scoring and adding a free throw to cut the margin to three.  After sophomore Becca Aul scored to cut the lead to one, Kelsey Ferguson dropped in two free throws with 7.8 seconds left as Mars took a 39-36 lead into the final quarter.

Kenitz continued to be a force under the hoop for the Planets with an early basket in the fourth quarter to push the margin to 41-36.  Lang answered to make it a 41-38 game with 6:49 still remaining.  After Ferguson put back her own rebound, Figan drained her third trey of the game to cut the lead to 43-41.  It would be as close as NA would get as Mars went on a 8-0 run to take control of the game.  Grenci had a hoop and two free throws, Elaine Hasek dropped in two foul shots, and Ferguson scored again as Mars took a 51-41 lead.  After senior Laura Sudo hit a turnaround jumper, Grenci answered with a pair of foul shots to keep the lead at ten.  Lang drove to the basket and added a foul shot to cut the margin to seven, but Grenci was able to answer with two final foul shots to give Mars a 55-46 victory.

It was a physical contest for a season opener with a total of 42 fouls called on the two teams.  The Tigers shot well from the line, making 14 of 17 including Lang's eleven for eleven.  Mars made 19 of 27 free throws.  The Tigers were cold from the floor, however, hitting on just 14 of 54 (25.9%), including just 4 of 23 from beyond the arc.  For her efforts on both ends of the court, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Jackie Lang as the Player of the Game.  In addition to her 17 points, Lang pulled down a total of 13 rebounds for NA.

The loss dropped NA into the consolation game in the tournament.  The Lady Tigers will face McDowell at 2:00 pm this afternoon with the championship game between Mars and Woodland Hills scheduled for 3:30 pm.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will broadcast the NA-McDowell game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 1:45 pm.
