SWIMMING AND DIVING

DIVERS TOP FIELD AT CHRISTMAS INVITATIONAL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH

Meet Results (NA only)

Freshman Connor Kuremsky and junior Emilie Foley captured first places in the diving competition at the Christmas Invitational at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool on Thursday afternoon.  Junior Jen Graham finished second.

In the swimming competition, sophomore Mark Waugh won the 100 butterfly, sophomore Jonathan Buerger took the 500 freestyle and the boys' 400 freestyle relay team of Waugh, Buerger, junior Luis Rodriguez and senior Jack Crellin was victorious.  Rodriguez took the silver in the 200 free and the bronze in the 100 fly.  Crellin was third in the 100 back and senior Matt Becker was third in the 100 breaststroke.  The boys' 200 free relay team of Waugh, Becker, Buerger and Rodriguez finished in second place.

For the Lady Tigers, freshman Corinne Talhouk captured third in the 100 backstroke.  The girls' 200 medley team of Talhouk, sophomore Courtney Thompson, sophomore Kylie Grady and senior Jamie Chakany also won the bronze medal for third place.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again on Thursday when they host Shaler in the section opener.  Meet time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.

LEBO ENDS TIGER STREAK WITH 50-44 VICTORY OVER NA; LADY TIGERS UPEND BLUE DEVILS, 63-31

Meet Results

For the first time since December of 2002, the Tiger boys' team was defeated losing a 50-44 decision at Mt. Lebanon on Thursday night.  The Lady Tigers won all three relays on their way to a 63-31 victory over the Blue Devils.

Despite a late victory in the 100 backstroke by senior captain Jack Crellin, the Tigers could not overcome Lebo who won all three relay events.  Sophomore Jonathan Buerger captured wins in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle and sophomore Mark Waugh was victorious in the 100 butterfly.

For the Lady Tigers, sophomore Stephanie Graham won both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly to pace NA.  Senior Jamie Chakany took the 200 freestyle and senior Jessica Shearer was first in the 100 free for the winning Tigers.  Freshman Corinne Talhouk added a first place finish in the 100 backstroke.

With the results, both teams are 3-1 in non-section meets.  The Tiger teams will compete in the Holiday Invitational at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool on Thursday.  The diving meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon while the swimming events are set for 2:00 pm.

BOYS DOWN BETHEL PARK; GIRLS LOSE TO BLACKHAWKS

Meet Results

The Tiger boys' team defeated Bethel Park, 105-79, at the Senior High pool on Tuesday night.  Junior Luis Rodriguez won the 200 freestyle, and senior captain Jack Crellin took both the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke with personal best times.  Senior Matt Becker captured the 100 freestyle while junior Joey Weiland was victorious in the 100 backstroke.

The girls' team lost their first meet of the season to the 2007 WPIAL champion Blackhawks by a score of 98-80.  Junior diver Emily Foley led the way with a first place finish while senior Jamie Chakany posted several season best swims.

The Tiger teams will travel to Mt. Lebanon tomorrow night to meet the always tough Blue Devils in another non-section meet.  The scheduled starting time is set for 6:30 pm.

BOYS, GIRLS' TEAMS DOWN GATEWAY

Meet Results

Both Tiger teams were victorious over Gateway at the Senior High pool on Tuesday night.  In boys' competition, the Tigers defeated the Gators by a score of 101-80.  Senior Captain Jack Crellin led the way with personal best swims in four evens while seniors Jordan Lebovitz, Nate Kurtanich, Max Rzodkiewicz added personal best swims to score valuable points.  Junior Luis Rodriguez won the 200 individual medley.

The Lady Tigers raised their record to 2-0 by downing Gateway, 103-75.  Senior Jamie Chakany led the way with victories in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke while junior Katie Knable won the 200 freestyle.

The Tigers will host Bethel Park next Tuesday in another non-section match.  The scheduled starting time is set for 5:00 pm.

TIGER TEAMS STOP FRANKLIN REGIONAL

Meet Results

Both Tiger teams were victorious at Franklin Regional on Wednesday afternoon in the first dual meet of the season.  In the boys' meet, the Tigers downed the Panthers, 101-83, while the Lady Tigers were victorious by a 106-78 score.

In the girls' meet, the Lady Tigers won 9 of the 12 events, sweeping the 200 free, 200 IM and the 500 free.  Senior Jamie Chakany and freshman Corinne Talhouk were both double winners to pace the Lady Tigers.  Chakany won the 200 IM and the 500 free while also swimming on the victorious 200 freestyle relay team.  Talhouk captured the 200 free and 100 backstroke races.  Junior Sarah Musial took a first in the 100 free and a second in the 50 free along with swimming on the winning 200 medley relay.  Sophomore Courtney Thompson was busy with a first in the 100 fly, a second in the 200 free and a place on the winning 200 free relay squad.  Sophomore Kylie Grady won the 100 breaststroke and also placed third in the 200 IM.

Taking important second place finishes for NA were sophomore Stephanie Graham in the 200 IM, junior Katie Knable in the 500 free and sophomore Kasey Manko in the 100 breaststroke.  Manko also swam on both winning relay teams.  Finishing in third were Leah Garcia in the 100 fly and Rachel Lewis in the 500 free.  In the diving competition, junior Emilie Foley was second with junior Jennifer Graham finishing third.  Also swimming on the winning 200 medley relay was Marina Rozick.

The boys' team won seven races on their way to the 101-83 victory.  Sophomore Jon Buerger led the way with wins in both the 100 back and 100 breaststroke while also swimming on the winning medley relay squad.  Sophomore Mark Waugh won the 200 free and finished in second place in the 100 back.  Senior Jack Crellin took the 500 free and was also a member of the winning relay team.  Junior Luis Rodriguez captured the 50 free along with a place on the 200 medley relay winners.  Senior Jordan Lebovitz won the 100 fly with Connor Kuremsky taking first in the diving competition.

Finishing second for NA were junior Kevin Kuntz in the 200 IM, Konstantine Borisov in the 100 fly, and junior Joey Weiland in the 100 free.  Taking third place points were sophomore Jonathan Du in the 200 IM, senior Matt Becker in the 50 free, senior Nate Kurtanich in the 100 free and Michael Tsang in the 100 breaststroke.  Senior Max Rzodkiewicz picked up a first as a member of the winning medley relay.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again next Tuesday when they host Gateway in another non-section meet.  The scheduled starting time is set for 6:00 pm.

TIGER TEAMS TIE FOR FIRST PLACE IN IUP KICKOFF CLASSIC

Meet Results

The Tiger swim teams set meet records in the mixed medley, 400 IM relay, and the butterfly relay on their way to a first place tie in the combined team score at the IUP Kickoff Classic on Monday afternoon.  The boys finished second to Erie Cathedral Prep with the girls taking fifth place with Bethel Park winning the competition.  In combined team scores, NA finished with 190 points as did the team of Cathedral Prep/Villa Maria from Erie.

The Tiger boys' squad won the 400 medley, the 200 butterfly and the 200 breaststroke races while finishing second in the 200 medley, 200 free (8x25), 200 free and 200 backstroke.  The Lady Tigers took the 200 medley.  The NA teams won first in the mixed medley and second in both the 200 free and 200 free (8x25).

The Tiger teams will begin dual competition tomorrow when they travel to Franklin Regional for a 5:00 pm non-section meet.

The Tiger teams began action in the 2007-08 season with a trip to State College for the State College Invitational.  The boys finished in second place behind Emmaus while the Lady Tigers took fourth as Emmaus also won the girls' competition.

For the boys, sophomore Jonathan Buerger took first in the 200 freestyle and added a second in the 500 free.  The 200 free relay team was also victorious.  Sophomore Mark Waugh picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 fly.  Senior Jack Crellin captured second in the 100 backstroke as did the 400 free relay team.  In diving, junior Devin Glace also placed second.  Junior Luis Rodriguez took third in the 100 butterfly race.

For the girls, sophomore Kylie Grady won the 100 breaststroke to pace the Lady Tigers.  Freshman Corinne Talhouk was second in the 200 IM and third in the 500 free.  In diving, junior Jennifer Graham placed second and senior Olivia DeFazio third.  The medley relay team also took third place.
