NA runs away from Penn-Trafford late for 9-2 victory
North Allegheny traveled to Penn-Trafford on Thursday afternoon to take on the Warriors in a non-section contest before Easter break. It was tightly contested throughout but a five-run seventh inning helped the Tigers pull away for a 9-2 win.
After a scoreless first two innings, NA got the scoring going in the top of the third when Dominic Williamson singled and Carter Boehm and Jake Fritz both walked to load the bases. Alex Lopez grounded out scoring a run, JJ Mancuso walked and Christian Simons had an RBI groundout to give North Allegheny the 2-0 lead.
Penn-Trafford responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the score 2-2.
The Tigers got the lead back in the top of the fifth after three straight singles from Jake Fritz, Lopez and Mancuso once again loaded the bases, Simons once again got a job done with an RBI groundout and NA led 3-2.
North Allegheny added on in the top of the sixth when a Mason Draftfinsky walk and Williamson single set the table for Jake Fritz to score Dratfinsky on a fielding error and the Tigers led 4-2.
The flood gates opened in the seventh inning as Mancuso singled, stole second and got to third on an error, Ben Kowger drove in Mancuso with an RBI single to make it 5-2. Gavin Ust followed up with a single while Dratfinsky and Williamson had back-to-back RBI singles making the score 7-2. Boehm reached on an error to add to the lead and Jake Frtiz added an RBI single making the score 9-2.
Williamson was 4-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Fritz, Mancuso and Dratfinsky all had two hits.
Roman Kohler got the start for North Allegheny going three innings giving up four hits and two runs (one earned). William Schmidt got the win going two innings of relief. Samson Rosenberg got the final six outs allowing a hit and striking out three.
North Allegheny improves to 3-2 overall. The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they open section play at home against Butler at 7 p.m. This game will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
