Dignazio’s Walk-Off Single Bedevils Blue Devils, 5-4

Senior Jon Dignazio’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted North Allegheny to a 5-4 win over the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils on Tuesday afternoon. NA reliever Bobby Brown picked up the victory with two scoreless innings of work. The non-section win was North Allegheny’s first of the season.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Ben Marsico and Daniel McCauley. The Blue Devils tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning, but the Tigers answered for a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the inning thanks to passed ball that scored Brown from third base.

Mt. Lebanon grabbed a 4-3 lead on a two-run error by the Tigers infield in the top of the fifth. The Blue Devils’ lead was short-lived as NA tied the score at 4-4 on an RBI double by McCauley in the bottom of the fifth. The game stayed tied until Dignazio’s walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth plated Marsico and the Tigers claimed a 5-4 triumph.

North Allegheny improves to 1-1 on the season, while Mt. Lebanon drops to 0-2. The Tigers head to the sunshine state this weekend for games on Friday and Saturday in Orlando, Florida.
