North Allegheny junior J.D. Costanzo has announced his commitment to West Virginia University to continue his academic and baseball career. Costanzo made his verbal commitment public via Twitter on Thursday morning.

In 2023, Costanzo has had a breakout season with the Tigers and pitching staff’s leader in victories. Fashioning a 5-2 record in eight appearances and six starts, Costanzo has limited opponents with a scant 1.70 ERA. In 33 innings of work, also tops on the team, the southpaw has struck out a team-high 68 batters and allowed only 12 walks.

Costanzo has twirled three games of 12 strikeouts or more this season, including a dazzling two-hit, 15 strikeout performance against Trinity in the regular season finale.

At the plate, Costanzo is tied for the team lead in home runs with two. He was recently named second-team all-section by the coaches in the Big 56 Conference.

At WVU, Costanzo will be reunited with current Tigers shortstop Spencer Barnett, who is headed to Morgantown next season. The Mountaineers, led by head coach Randy Mazey, are currently 39-13 overall and 15-6 in the Big 12 Conference. The 15-6 conference mark is best in the Big 12.

Costanzo and the North Allegheny baseball team will take on Norwin in the WPIAL Class 6A quarterfinals on Monday.
