On a damp afternoon at Seneca Valley, the North Allegheny baseball team picked up a big road win by vanquishing the Raiders, 6-3. The Raiders threatened in the bottom of the seventh and had two men on with one out. NA reliever Keegan Phillips slammed the door on Seneca Valley by striking out Brett Steinle and inducing a game ending ground out by Shane Hepner to earn the save and preserve an important Section 1-AAAA victory.

Senior Ben Marsico was superb at the plate and on the mound in a terrific dual performance. Marsico was 3 for 4 with two RBI’s and pitched 6.1 strong innings to earn the win.

Marsico was part of the early run scoring as he and Dillan Layman drove in runs with RBI singles in the top of the second to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Seneca Valley answered in the bottom of the second with RBI singles by Brett Steinmiller, Corey Greiner and Mike Collins to give the homestanding Raiders a 3-2 advantage.

Marsico came through again for North Allegheny in the third inning with an RBI single that tied the game at 3-3. Not done there, Bobby Brown plated a run with an RBI groundout and Alex Mesaros singled home Dan McCauley for a 5-3 Tigers lead. Jon Dignazio added an insurance run in the seventh inning with a solo homer over the right field fence to bring the final score to 6-3.

North Allegheny improves to 10-7 overall and 5-4 in Section 1-AAAA. Seneca Valley drops to 5-10 overall and 2-7 in the section. The Tigers will host the first-place North Hills Indians on Monday night at 7:00. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
