NA falls in non-section contest to Pine-Richland
North Allegheny traveled to Pine-Richland High School to take on the Rams in a non-section showdown on Thursday afternoon. There was a lot of offense both ways but it was the Rams coming away with the 14-8 victory.
The Tigers got on the board in the top of the first when Gavin Ust walked, Jake Fritz doubled to score Ust, Christian Simons walked, Mason Dratfinsky got hit by a pitch and Carter Boehm came through with an RBI single to make the score 2-0.
Pine-Richland responded with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 9-2 lead.
Momentum continued to shift as NA got four more in the top of the second. After getting two quick outs, JJ Mancuso doubled, Fritz hit a two-run homerun, Simons walked, Dominic Williamson singled, Drafinsky singled scoring Simons and Willamson scored on a double steal to cut the Rams lead to 9-6.
PR responded with two in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth to make the score 14-6.
Things got quiet until the top of the seventh inning when Williamson was hit by a pitch, Dratfinsky singled, Boehm got an RBI on a fielder’s choice, Alex Lopez singled and Ben Kern scored Boehm on an error, but that is where NA comeback stalled and the Tigers fell 14-8.
Mancuso, Fritz and Dratfinsky all had two hits. Fritz drove in three runs while Boehm drove in two.
Garrett Evanish got the start for North Allegheny. Roman Kohler threw two and two-thirds innings of relief while Jude Swartz went three innings allowing a run on four hits.
North Allegheny falls to 1-1. The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they host Mt. Lebanon at 4 p.m. That game will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
