North Allegheny used a late-inning avalanche to bury the Allderdice Dragons on Monday afternoon in game one of a three-game series, 14-4, in six innings. The victory also marked the 150th career win for North Allegheny head coach Andrew Heck.

The Dragons, winless in section play, hung tough with the undefeated Tigers through the first four innings and trailed only 3-2 heading into the top of the fifth inning. Thats when North Allegheny broke out the big bats and plated six in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to invoke the 10-run rule.

There were several players who produced multiple RBI performances. Senior Matthew Parreaguirre went 2-for-4 with a double, five RBI’s and two runs scored. Junior Michael Hershberger delivered a 3-for-4 day with a pair of doubles and four RBI’s. Freshman phenom J.J. Mancuso reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBI’s and three runs scored.

Junior Jackson Walsh, senior David Posey and junior Miles Pealer all drove in single runs in the win.

Posey got the starting nod on the mound but gave way to junior Nate Persinger after three innings. Persinger pitched the final three frames and surrendered only two runs, one earned, to pick up the victory.

North Allegheny improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Section 1-6A, while Allderdice drops to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the section. The Tigers will host the Dragons in game two of the series on Tuesday night. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
