NA Sinks Seneca Valley In Game One, 7-0

The top-ranked North Allegheny baseball team visited Seneca Valley on Monday night in game one of a three-game series and blanked the host Raiders, 7-0.

Behind another outstanding pitching performance from starter J.D. Costanzo, the Tigers posted their third shutout in the last four games. The NA southpaw punched out 12 batters and limited the Raiders to just three hits in his five innings on the bump. Reliever Greg Schmidt followed with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.

Junior J.D. Costanzo tossed five scoreless innings to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The North Allegheny lineup scored the game’s first run in the top of the second inning on an Owen Schall RBI single for a 1-0 lead. The Tigers grew the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third when sophomore Augie Maslo delivered a two-run single to score Matthew Parreaguirre and Andrew Hart. The NA lead swelled to 4-0 in the top of the fifth thanks to a bases loaded walk by Schall for his second RBI of the game to bring home Anthony Varlotta. It was also Varlotta’s second run scored of the evening. Senior Ian Zahorchak capped the scoring in the top of the sixth inning with a two-homer, his second of the season, for a 7-0 lead.

Seneca Valley starter and Auburn University commit, Owen Yarussi, was tagged for four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 4.2 innings. Paul Rebovich went 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk.

North Allegheny leaps to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in Section 1-6A, sitting in first place in the section standings. Seneca Valley sits at 11-3 overall and 4-3 in the section. The Tigers and Raiders will face off in game two of the series at NASH on Tuesday night. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
