Tigers Dispatch Dragons, 8-4, To Complete Sweep

Posted on:

The North Allegheny baseball team completed a three-game sweep of the Allderdice Dragons on Thursday afternoon with an 8-4 victory in Section 1-6A action.

The Tigers wasted little time to surge ahead and built a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to an RBI groundout by junior Michael Hershberger and an RBI single courtesy of freshman J.J. Mancuso.

Allderdice trimmed the NA lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first, and that score held until the Tigers piled up a bevy of runs in the late innings. Junior Miles Pealer drove in senior Connor Fadgen in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI double to increase the NA lead to 3-1. The Tigers tacked on a pair of runs to their advantage in the fifth inning, thanks in part to a run-scoring double by senior J.D. Costanzo. It became 6-1, Tigers, in the sixth inning when senior Matthew Parreaguirre’s RBI single plated Mancuso. A sacrifice fly by senior Charles Mau and an RBI single courtesy of senior Owen Schall ballooned the NA lead to 8-1 in the top of the seventh inning.

With the game out of reach, Allderdice plated three meaningless runs in the bottom of the seventh to bring the final score to 8-4, North Allegheny.

Senior Greg Schmidt earned the starting assignment on the mound and delivered four strong innings to earn the victory. The Mercyhurst University commit allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Junior Colin Moore worked two innings of scoreless relief with four punch outs and one walk. Junior Dylan Brokos pitched the seventh inning and didn’t allow an earned run despite three runs scoring in the frame.

With the win, North Allegheny remains undefeated with a 9-0 overall record and a 6-0 mark in Section 1-6A. Allderdice dips to 1-9 overall and 0-8 in the section. The Tigers are scheduled to face Plum on Friday at 4:00 p.m. in a non-section contest.
