KOCENT TALLIES HAT TRICK BUT BALDWIN TIES TIGERS, 5-5

Senior Alex Kocent scored three times on Sunday afternoon at the RMU-Island Sports Center, but the Baldwin Highlanders were able to hold NA to a 5-5 tie.  Seniors Chris Gilson and Ben Basara also scored for NA in the overtime tie.

The Tigers got off to a good start when Kocent scored the only goal of the first period with 4:08 remaining.  NA took a 1-0 lead to the first intermission.  In the second period, Basara scored just 33 seconds into the period to make it 2-0.  Baldwin rallied, however, to score the next three goals.  Nick Hinsch scored with 6:08 remaining in the period and Chad Revak picked up a pair of goals to give Baldwin a 3-2 lead at the 2:40 mark.  Gilson set up Kocent for his second goal to tie the game at 3-3 with 57 seconds left in the stanza.  The teams went to the second intermission tied at 3-3.

Early in the final period, Gilson gave NA the lead again at 4-3 when he scored just 46 seconds into the period.  Baldwin came back again with a pair of goals by Hinsch and Brad Haas to regain the lead at 5-4 with 10:55 remaining.  Kocent tallied his third goal of the game on an assist from senior Mike Lorish to tie the game again at the 6:02 mark.  Neither team could score again and the game went to overtime tied at 5-5.  The game was scoreless in the overtime period and went into the books as a  5-5 tie.  Senior Brian Steinmiller was in net for the Tigers as NA outshot the Highlanders, 34-30, on the game.

The Tigers had won four straight and remain unbeaten with a record of 4-0-1.  NA will face Bethel Park next Sunday evening at the RMU-Island Sports Center.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm.

TIGERS DOWN PETERS TOWNSHIP, 7-1,
TO REMAIN UNBEATEN

The Tigers won their fourth straight with a 7-1 victory over Peters Township at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday night.  Seniors Alex Kocent and Andrew Guntrum scored two goals each to pace NA.  Seniors Chris Gilson and Mitch Moulton, along with junior Eric Pelly, also scored for the winning Tigers.

The Tigers scored first when Kocent gave NA a 1-0 lead on an assist from Gilson at the 8:58 mark.  NA made it 2-0 when Gilson scored on an assist from Moulton with 5:30 remaining in the period.  Guntrum's first goal extended the margin to 3-0 with 3:45 remaining.  The Tigers took the 3-0 advantage to the first intermission.

In the second period, Pelly pushed the lead to 4-0 on a goal assisted by senior Ben Basara at the 11:08 mark.  Guntrum's second goal, on assists from Basara and senior Mike Lorish, gave NA a commanding 5-0 lead after two periods.

Early in the third period, Matt Lazzaro scored for Peters Township to break the shutout bid of NA senior goalie Brian Steinmiller, who has gone two consecutive games without giving up a goal.  The Tigers answered with goals by Kocent and Moulton as NA went on to the 7-1 victory.  The Tigers outshot the Indians, 41-22, in the game.

The win improved the NA record to 4-0 in the early season.  The Tigers have outscored their opponents by a count of 27-3.  NA will face Avonworth on Sunday afternoon at the RMU-Island Sports Center with game time scheduled for 4:00 pm.

SENECA VALLEY FALLS TO TIGERS, 3-0

Seniors Ben Basara, Mitch Moulton, and Mike Lorish all scored goals to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 victory over Seneca Valley at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Saturday night.  Senior Brian Steinmiller recorded his second consecutive shutout in goal for NA.

After a scoreless first period, Moulton put the Tigers ahead 1-0 with an unassisted goal at 12:08 of the second period.  Holding just a 1-0 lead into the final period, the Tigers scored twice to put the Raiders away.  Basara scored on an assist from senior Chris Gilson at the 11:01 mark.  Lorish added an insurance goal with 7:02 remaining.  The aggressive Tiger defense kept Seneca off the board for the remaining time.

The Tigers outshot Seneca Valley, 31-17, in winning their third straight.  The defending champion Tigers will be in action again on Sunday night when they play Peters Township.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm at the RMU-Island Sports Center.

TIGERS SCORE FIVE IN THIRD PERIOD TO DOWN HAMPTON, 6-0

The Tigers erupted for five goals in the third period to break open a close game and defeat Hampton, 6-0, at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday night.  Senior Alex Kocent scored a pair of goals to pace NA.  Ben Basara and Steve Leibhart recorded two assists each for the winning Tigers.

After a scoreless first period, senior Andrew Guntrum finally broke through to score with just 1:36 remaining of the second period on an assist from Leibhart.  NA took a 1-0 advantage into the second intermission.

The Tigers broke the game open in the final stanza.  Senior Mitch Moulton made it 2-0 2:09 into the period.  Kocent added an unassisted goal just 55 seconds later to give NA a 3-0 lead.  Basara set up senior Mike Lorish for the fourth NA goal at the 10:31 mark.  Senior Chris Garrett knocked in the fifth Tiger goal with 8:04 remaining.  Kocent's second goal finished the scoring as the Tigers went on to the 6-0 victory.  Brian Steinmiller recorded 15 saves to earn the shutout.

The Tigers outshot the Talbots, 37-15, in picking up their second straight victory without a loss.  NA will take on Seneca Valley next Saturday night with game time scheduled for 6:30 pm.

TIGERS OPEN SEASON WITH 11-2 VICTORY OVER SHALER

The Tigers opened defense of the PIHRL championship with an 11-2 victory over Shaler at the RMU-Island Sports Center last week.  Senior Ben Basara led the way with three goals while seniors Alex Kocent, Andrew Guntrum and Mike Lorish netted two each.  Seniors Chris Garrett and Chris Gilson scored one goal each.

The Tigers will play Hampton tonight at the RMU-Island Sports Center with game time scheduled for 6:30 pm.
