TIGER BOYS TAKE WPIAL TITLE;
GIRLS FINISH SECOND

It was a good day for NA cross country on Thursday afternoon at Cooper's Lake near Slippery Rock as the Tiger boys' team won their first title since 1997.  The Lady Tigers captured runnerup honors with a second place finish behind champion Latrobe.

Senior Max Brown led the NA boys' charge with a second place finish with sophomore Pat Morgan coming in with an impressive 5th place.  Senior Patrick Baxter added a 15th place to give NA three runners in the top fifteen.  For the Lady Tigers, senior Kelley O'Brien led the way with a third place with senior Michelle Diez adding twelfth place points.  Freshman Dana Preston was the third NA runner coming in 25th.

It was a great win for the boys whose slogan all year has been "Back to the '90s" when NA was the dominant power in boys' cross country.  The Tigers won eight team championships in a row from 1990-97.  The Tigers easily outpointed second place Central Catholic, 85-128.

For the Lady Tigers, it a good showing behind a strong Latrobe team that had three runners in the top ten.  NA finished ahead of Mt. Lebanon for second place to reverse the positions from a week ago in the Tri-State Coaches' Meet.  Both Tiger teams qualified for the PIAA Championships to be held at Saturday at the Hershey Stadium White Field Course.

CONGRATULATIONS TO COACH LEDONNE AND THE TIGER TEAMS FOR A GREAT SEASON SO FAR!

GOOD LUCK AT STATES!

BROWN LEADS TIGERS TO TRI-STATE COACHES' TITLE
Lady Tigers Finish Third

Senior Max Brown finished in third place to lead the Tigers to the championship of the Tri State Coaches Association meet at Cooper's Lake near Slippery Rock on Thursday afternoon.  Senior Kelley O'Brien came in second to pace the Lady Tigers to a third-place finish behind Latrobe and Mt. Lebanon.

For the boys' team, sophomore Pat Morgan finished in 20th place while sophomore Matt Jacob was 28th.  For the Lady Tigers, freshman Dana Preston took 14th and senior Michelle Diez 23rd.

The Tri State Coaches meet is the last major meet before the WPIAL championships.  Since most of the top teams are in the meet, it is a good indication of where the teams stand at this point of the season.  Both Tiger teams performed well in the meet as they get ready for next week's WPIAL championship meet.  The title races next Thursday will be held on the same Cooper's Lake course.

WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CHANGED TO COOPER 'S LAKE CAMPGROUND

Because of renovations at Slippery Rock University, the WPIAL cross country championships will be held at nearby Cooper's Lake Campground on October 27.  The Tri-State Coaches will also hold its annual meet at Cooper's Lake on October 20.  Slippery Rock officials will continue to run both events.

According to Baldwin coach Rich Wright, "It seems like it'll be a well laid-out course.  It will give runners an opportunity to run at a new venue."

WPIAL CROSS COUNTRY - 2005

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will compete once again in Class AAA against 47 other teams this year.  Section plaques will be awarded to the winner of each section based on the best section record.  Ties for first place will be declared co-champions and both will receive a plaque.

Scoring in dual meets will be conventional.  The top seven finishers will be counted, with five of them scoring and two to displace.  The WPIAL cross country individual and team champions will be determined at the WPIAL championship.

The WPIAL Championship will be conducted at Slippery Rock University on Thursday, October 27, 2005.  The PIAA Championship will be conducted on Saturday, November 5, 2005.
