TIGER BOYS QUALIFY FOR
STATE TOURNAMENT

The Tiger boys' squad soundly defeated Pottsville, 19-3, to qualify for their first state tournament ever.  Senior Stephen Hilty led the Tigers with seven goals.  NA should be the 7th seed next week at Cumberland Valley in the State Championship Tournament.

The Lady Tigers exacted revenge from two weeks ago on the team from Wissahickon with a 12-6 victory that sent them to the qualifying final.  After staying close to a strong Pottsville team in the first half, NA fell behind in the second as Pottsville took a 12-3 victory.  Sophomore hole set Ginny Thistle led NA with seven goals in two games.

TIGER BOYS WIN TWO AT EAST/WEST CROSSOVER

The Tiger boys' team picked up a pair of wins at the East/West Crossover Tournament at Pottsville on Friday and Saturday.  NA was victorious over Pottsville, 11-6, and Wyoming Valley West, 9-2.  Against the #1 ranked team, North Penn, the Tigers lost 10-4, but played them tougher than they did two weeks ago.  In the fourth game, Wissahickon used a late rally to down the Tigers, 8-6.

The girls' team dropped all four games but showed improvement.  The scoring average for the Lady Tigers has been inceasing and is up to about 5 goals per game.  Hole Set Ginny Thistle again led the team with 9 goals and senior Driver Erica Harpur added 7.

Both teams have critical Western Division games tonight with the boys' taking on Erie McDowell and the girls' meeting Villa Maria.  The outcome of these games will determine qualification for the State Tournament.

Next weekend, the Tigers will host the Western Tiger Classic with some of the finest teams across the state visiting North Allegheny.  We will post the schedule next week.

TIGERS FACE TOUGH OPPOSITION AT SCREAMIN' EAGLES TOURNAMENT

Both Tiger water polo teams faced tough opponents over the weekend at the Screamin' Eagles Tournament at Cumberland Valley High School.  On Friday, the boys' team was defeated by Cumberland Valley, 9-6, but came back to defeat Malvern, 8-7, thanks to a goal by junior John Nolan, the team's leading scorer.  The Lady Tigers were defeated by Cumberland Valley, 13-4, and Souderton, 10-3.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers lost to North Penn, 8-4, while the boys' squad dropped a pair of games.  North Penn defeated NA, 10-3, and Haverford downed the Tigers, 13-5.

The boys' team was very competitive over the weekend.  According to Coach Corky Semler, "The boy's team in particular has made some tremendous strides this past season.  We are now able to compete with the best teams in the state and feel confident, in our 5th season, we will have the first legitimate shot at making the state finals."  In addition to the play of Nolan, the Tigers rely on senior Stephen Hilty, who is giving the team some solid hole set play.

The Lady Tigers are young and inexperienced but improved rapidly this weekend.  Sophomore Ginny Thistle led the way with solid hole play and is the team's leading scorer.

The Tiger teams are scheduled to play at South Park next Monday with game time scheduled for 5:00 pm.
