(10/8/12) The North Allegheny Boys Golf Team took first place at the WPIAL Semifinals on Monday afternoon.  The squad shot a cumulative score of 385, tying with Peters Township for tops on the day.  Both the Tigers and Indians advanced to the WPIAL Finals, along with third-place Hempfield.  The Spartans won a playoff over Shady Side to advance.

With tee time set for early morning, the Tigers faced a temperature in the 30s and an hour long fog delay to start their day.  Josh Huhn and John McCabe led North Allegheny, each with a 75 over the eighteen holes at Hiland Golf Club.  Kevin O'Brien was one off their pace, shooting a 76.  Brandon Maiello and Seth Kreutzer rounded out the scoring with a 78 and 81, respectively.

The Tigers will look to bring home the WPIAL championship on Thursday.  Keep tabs on the North Allegheny Sports Network for updates and results.  Best of luck to Coach Rittman and the North Allegheny Boys Golf Team!

TIGERS WIN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
OVER SHALER, 200-231

(9/27/12) In adverse conditions, the North Allegheny Boys Golf Team beat Shaler in their regular season finale, 200-231.  Despite the heavy rain and strong wind, senior Kevin O’Brien excelled by shooting a 36.  O’Brien eagled the ninth hole, par five, to shoot a one over par.  Sophomore Josh Huhn also had a solid day with a 38.  Senior Brandon Maiello followed with a 41 and sophomore Martin Lazzaro knocked down a 42.  Seniors Seth Kreutzer and John McCabe rounded out the day with a 43 and 44 respectively.  The best Shaler could muster was a 42 by Alex Banfield.

North Allegheny improves to 13-3 overall and 9-3 in Section 3.  The Tigers are currently tied for second place in the section with Pine-Richland as both have three losses.  Pine-Richland faces Seneca Valley on Tuesday and if the Rams win, both NA and PR will go to the playoffs.  Central Catholic has already locked up the section championship.

BOYS GOLF NARROWLY FALLS TO RAIDERS, 200-204

(9/24/12) After the Tigers squeaked past Seneca Valley a mere twelve days ago, the Raiders returned the favor against their section rival, edging North Allegheny 200-204.  The match was contested on the back nine holes of Cranberry Highlands.

North Allegheny's Kevin O'Brien shot a 37 this afternoon and was matched on the scoresheet by Seneca Valley golfer Brennan Bench.  Martin Lazzaro was the only other golfer to break forty.  Through the three lowest scores on each side, the teams were deadlocked.  However, Seneca Valley used its depth to eke out a win, evening the season series between the conference foes.

The loss drops the Tigers to 12-3 on the season, with their next team match scheduled for Thursday when they entertain the Shaler Titans.  Scheduled tee times are set for 3:30 pm.

Kevin O'Brien will return to Cranberry Highlands on Tuesday for the WPIAL Individual Semifinals.  O'Brien medaled in last week's Section Qualifier event and will look to continue to the WPIAL Individual Finals, scheduled in October.

NORTH ALLEGHENY SNEAKS PAST MT. LEBANON, 188-196

(9/21/12) The Tigers traveled to the South Hills for a non-section contest against Mt. Lebanon and returned home after capturing their seventh match in a row, defeating the Blue Devils 188-196.  The meeting was scheduled for earlier in the year, but inclement weather forced a postponement.

With clear skies on Friday afternoon, Josh Huhn led North Allegheny with a 35.  A pair of Mt Lebanon golfers also tied Huhn's mark of par on the day.  Additional scorers for North Allegheny were Martin Lazzaro (36), Brandon Maiello (38), Seth Kreutzer (39), and Kevin O'Brien (40).

The win boosts North Allegheny to 12-2 overall, with their next contest scheduled Monday at Seneca Valley.  In a previous encounter this season, the Tigers squeaked by the Raiders by three strokes.  Undoubtedly, Seneca Valley will be looking to exact revenge on their own home course of Cranberry Highlands.  Tee times are set for 3:30 pm.

A day after the meet, Kevin O'Brien will return to Cranberry Highlands for the WPIAL Individual Semifinals.  O'Brien medaled in last week's Section Qualifier event and will look to continue to the WPIAL Individual Finals, scheduled in October.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will have results from both Monday's and Tuesday's events as soon as scores are posted.

O'Brien not only earned gold but will also represent the Tigers at the WPIAL Individual Semifinals on Tuesday.  Unfortunately, no other Tigers advanced as all other NA players shot above the target score of 80.  For a complete list of results at the section qualifiers, click here!

NA BEATS NORTH HILLS AT SHANNOPIN

(9/18/12) For the second time in a matter of a week, the North Allegheny Boys Golf Team defeated the North Hills Indians, this time by a score of 200-213.  The Tigers topped the Indians in a tri-match with Seneca Valley last week and did it again on Monday afternoon with a head-to-head meeting at Shannopin Country Club.

North Allegheny topped the Indians thanks to the efforts of senior John McCabe who led the Tigers with a 37, and sophomore Josh Huhn who followed with a 38.  Seniors Brandon Maiello and Seth Kreutzer each shot 41's.  Martin Lazzaro and Kevin O'Brien rounded out the day with a 43 and 45 respectively.  North Hills was paced by Colin Paulauskas who scored a 40.

North Allegheny jumps to 11-2 overall with the win and 8-2 in section play.  The Tigers will send six golfers to section qualifiers on Wednesday before collectively visiting Mt. Lebanon on Friday afternoon in a non-section match-up.

TIGERS OUTPLAY VIKINGS, EARN 177-182 WIN

(9/13/12) After dropping their first meeting with Central Catholic earlier this year, the Boys Golf Team was determined to not let it happen again.  Thursday afternoon at Diamond Run, the squad benefited from a home course advantage and stellar team effort to walk away with a 177-182 victory over their section foe.

The score off 177 was the lowest for North Allegheny this season.  Senior Kevin O'Brien eagled hole number nine to finish with a score of 37.  Several of his teammates scored even lower.  Josh Huhn, Seth Kreutzer and Brandon Maiello concluded their rounds with identical 36s.  Senior John McCabe, courtesy of a pair of bogies and a pair of birdies, finished at par with a 35.  However, they were all outdone by medalist winner Martin Lazzaro.  After already bogeying the fourth hole and birdying the sixth, Lazzaro sank a birdie on the ninth and final hole for a 1-under 34.

The section win extends North Allegheny's record to 10-2, and the Tigers hold a 7-2 mark within conference play.  The team will have the weekend free from competition, before meeting North Hills on Monday at Shannopin.  Tee time between the Section 3 schools is scheduled for 3:30 pm

TIGERS BEAT RAIDERS & INDIANS, SHOWDOWN WITH CENTRAL LOOMS

The Boys Golf Team picked up a pair of section wins Wednesday, outscoring North Hills, 189-220, and eking past Seneca Valley by just three strokes.  A pair of seniors led the way for the Tigers.  Kevin O'Brien shot a 35 to pace the team and John McCabe nearly matched him with a 36.  Seneca Valley's Mike Trotta was the medalist on the day with a low round of 34.

Up next for North Allegheny is a section showdown with Pittsburgh Central Catholic.  The Vikings came away with a win over the Tigers in their earlier meeting at their home course.  On Thursday, the location will shift to Diamond Run, where the Tigers will look to use their home course advantage.  The teams will tee up at 3:15 pm.

KREUTZER ON PAR, LEADS TIGERS PAST TORNADO, 182-215

(9/11/12) Seth Kreutzer led all golfers with an even par 35 at Butler Country Club, as the Tigers defeated the Golden Tornado 182-215 on Tuesday afternoon.  It was the lowest round Kreutzer shot this year in school competition, scoring one birdie and one bogey through the nine-hole round.  Previously, his best score this year was a 37, coming against Pine-Richland on August 28.

Several of his teammates were hot on his heels, as Martin Lazzaro, John McCabe, and Josh Huhn each finished with a 36.  Huhn chipped in for birdie on the third hole, but three-putted the eighth, quashing his chance to tie Kreutzer on the day.  Brandon Maiello also scored for the Tigers finishing with a round of 39.

The Tigers now stand at 7-2 on the season, with a mark of 4-2 in the section.  North Allegheny will continue their busy week on Wednesday, when they meet Seneca Valley and North Hills in a tri-match at Diamond Run.  The match will begin at 3:30 pm.

GOLF TEAM ESCAPES PANTHERS, 199-202

(9/10/12) Three Tiger golfers broke 40, allowing North Allegheny to squeak past host Franklin Regional, 199-202.  Martin Lazzaro posted the low round of the day for North Allegheny, scoring a one-over 37 at Meadowink.  Kevin O'Brien and John McCabe each shot a 39, to keep pace with the top three Panthers golfers.  Depth ultimately tipped the match to the Tigers, as Josh Huhn, Seth Kreutzer, and Brandon Maiello won the day for North Allegheny, shooting 41, 43 and 43, respectively.

The victory pushes North Allegheny to 6-2 on the season, with both losses to section competition.  The golf team will be back on the course again on Tuesday, traveling to Butler for a section contest with the Golden Tornado.  The Tigers are currently in the midst of four matches in four days.  A tri-meet with Seneca Valley and North Hills is scheduled for Wednesday, and a rematch with Central Catholic looms on Thursday.

NA BOYS TRIPPED UP BY PINE-RICHLAND

(9/5/12) North Allegheny had a rare off day on Wednesday afternoon and fell to the Pine-Richland Rams at Treesdale Golf Course, 193-199.  Three of NA's top six golfers had never played the Orchard Course at Treesdale before, a course designed by legend Arnold Palmer, and without knowledge of the course the Tigers struggled just enough for a game Pine-Richland squad to pull out the victory.

Senior Kevin O'Brien was matched by the Rams Sam Dunsmore and Brandon McCuen who all shot a 38.  Pine-Richland's Kevin Kunkle led all golfers with a 35.  For NA, following O'Brien's 38 was John McCabe and Seth Kreutzer who both posted 39's.  Sophomore Martin Lazzaro earned a 41 while John Huhn and Brandon Maiello rounded out the day with each shooting a 42.

With the loss, the Tigers split the season series with Pine-Richland and drop to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in section play.  North Allegheny will have the rest of the week off before facing Franklin Regional in a non-section match on Monday.  Action begins at 2:25 pm.

(8/30/12) The North Allegheny Boys Golf Team claimed another section win on Thursday afternoon as the Tigers topped the Butler Golden Tornado, 185-202, at Diamond Run Golf Course.  Once again it was another team effort that led the Tigers to victory.

Senior John McCabe posted all pars and one birdie as he drained a 20-foot putt on hole two for a one under par with a 34.  Sophomores Josh Huhn and Martin Lazzaro followed with a 36 and 39 respectively.  Meanwhile, seniors Kevin O'Brien and Brandon Maiello posted 39's while Seth Kreutzer rounded out the day with a 40.

North Allegheny is now 5-1 overall with the victory and 3-1 in section play.  The Tigers have the next few days off before a rematch with Pine-Richland on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.

TIGERS TAKE DOWN SHALER FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

(8/29/12) North Allegheny visited Shaler's Pheasant Ridge Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon and left with a comfortable section win, 184-216, over the Titans.  The conditions at Pheasant Ridge presented a hint of fall air and a stiff breeze as the Tigers drove their way past the Titans with room to spare.  Alex Banfield led Shaler with a 39 while all six Tigers finished with a 39 or better.

Among the highlights for North Allegheny, senior Kevin O'Brien overcame a long drive over the green on the ninth hole to save par and finished one under par with a 35.  Senior Brandon Maiello came on strong down the stretch and birdied the last two holes to finish with an even par 36.  Sophomore Martin Lazzaro started out two under par for the first three holes and ended the day with a 39.

With the win, North Allegheny moves to 4-1 on the year and 2-1 in the section.  The Tigers returns to the course at Diamond Run today with a section meeting with Butler.  Tee time is set for 3:30 pm.

NA EARNS FIRST SECTION WIN IN
DUEL WITH PINE-RICHLAND

(8/28/12) The Tigers Boys' Golf Team claimed their first section win of the season in a tough match-up over the Pine-Richland Rams on Tuesday afternoon, 180-190.  It was also the first home match of the season as the Tigers ruled their home turf at Diamond Run.  Despite a strong wind, North Allegheny overcame the breeze and the Rams behind a complete team performance.

While the Rams had some sterling individual efforts, including Brandon McCuen's 32 and Kevin Kunkle's 34, the Tigers were all around stronger and it showed in the final outcome.  Senior Kevin O'Brien eagled the ninth hole on his way to a 36, and fellow senior John McCabe equaled that effort with a 36 as well.  However, it was sophomore Josh Huhn who had the top performance for the Tigers by posting a 33.  Securing NA's victory was Seth Kreutzer who finished with a 37, Martin Lazzaro's 38 and Brandon Maiello's 40.

North Allegheny jumps to 3-1 on the season and improved their section mark to 1-1.  The Tigers hit the course again today at Shaler at 1:30 pm.

TIGERS BREEZE PAST GATEWAY, 188-228

(8/27/12) The North Allegheny Boys Golf Team got back in the win column on Monday afternoon by defeating Gateway, 188-228, at Churchill Country Club.  The Tigers overcame wet conditions to soundly defeat the Gators thanks in part to an outstanding performance from John McCabe.  McCabe posted two birdies and one birdies for one under par, shooting 35 on the day.  Kevin O’Brien and Martin Lazzaro were strong with each finishing with a 37.   The Gators struggled on their home course and were led by Bobby Guiliani’s 40.  Five Tigers finished with 40 or better, clearly outplaying the Gateway golfers in this non-section match-up.

North Allegheny is now 2-1 on the season and will resume section action today with a home meeting against Pine-Richland.  Tee time is slated for 3:30 pm.

In a big early season test, North Allegheny’s Kevin O’Brien led all golfers on the day with a 33.  Senior Brandon Maiello followed with a 38 for the Tigers while John McCabe and Seth Kruetzer shot a 39 respectively.
