NA Winning Streak Snapped By Mars

North Allegheny’s three-game winning streak was snapped on Wednesday night with a 6-1 home defeat to the Mars Planets in a non-section contest.

Mars pitcher Joe Craska, a Virginia Tech commit, limited the Tigers to just two hits and one run in five innings of work to earn the victory. North Allegheny starter Niklas Baldis suffered the loss, permitting four runs in three innings with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Planets got all the run support they needed in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, senior Gabe Franz smacked a three-run triple to give Mars a 3-0 lead. Franz scored moments later on sacrifice fly by Craska and the Planets led, 4-0. Franz finished the day 2 for 2 with two runs scored to go along with his three RBI.

North Allegheny’s lone run cam in the fifth inning when Shane Murphy scored on a wild pitch, trimming the Mars lead to 4-1. The Planets scored two insurance runs in the sixth inning to secure a 6-1 win.

North Allegheny drops to 3-3 overall with the loss, while Mars improves to 5-1. The Tigers are slated to visit Hampton on Friday at 3:45 p.m., weather permitting.
