Third-Inning Outburst Launches NA Over Moon, 11-3

Posted on:

North Allegheny used a nine-run third inning to slow down the red-hot Moon Tigers in an 11-3 triumph on Thursday night. Moon had won seven of its first eight games entering the contest and took a 3-0 lead over NA by the second inning. However, North Allegheny’s third-inning avalanche was too much for Moon to handle. Dan McCauley delivered a back-breaking bases loaded triple in the big inning that gave North Allegheny a 5-3 lead. North Allegheny led for the remainder of the night to claim its second section win of the season.

It was a strong outing for the NA lineup as every starter reached base, scored a run or collected an RBI. Blake Young was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI’s. Bobby Brown collected two hits and scored a run.

North Allegheny starter Ben Marsico tossed a complete game and punched out six batters to earn the victory. Moon’s Austin Konieczka suffered the loss and was chased from the game in the third inning, allowing eight runs (five earned) and walking six batters.

The Tigers vault to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in Section 1-AAAA. Moon drops to 7-2 overall and 1-2 in section play. North Allegheny hosts Seneca Valley Friday night at 7:00. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
