GAME SUMMARIES

TIGERS HOLD OFF HUDSON, 12-7, TO END TWO-GAME LOSING STREAK

The Tigers ended at two-game losing streak with a 12-7 victory over the Hudson Explorers at Newman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  NA built a 9-4 lead only to see Hudson rally to close within 9-7 in the fourth quarter.  Three late goals secured the win for the Tigers.

Leading the way for NA were junior attack Jose Rodriguez, junior midfield Andrew Rullan, and senior attack Jason Faber who each scored four goals for the Tigers.  Senior attack Glenn Stanzione recorded four assists in the NA victory.

The Tiger defense held off the Explorers throughout most of the game led by senior Ian Cully, sophomore Patrick Coleman, sophomore Mike Passodelis, and Rullan.  In goal, senior Matt Rahenkamp made key saves to preserve the victory.

The win was the first over Hudson in the series between the Pennsylvania and Ohio teams.  The victory improved the NA overall record to 7-2 on the season.  The Tigers will be back in action again on Wednesday, April 19, when they travel to Mt. Lebanon for an 8:00 pm division game.

WESTERN RESERVE HOLDS OFF TIGERS
 IN 14-8 WIN

The Tigers traveled to Western Reserve on Thursday and dropped a 14-8 decision to one of the top teams in Ohio.  NA cut an early WRA lead to one goal midway through the second half before the Ohio squad pulled away to win.

Four Tiger players scored two goals each in the contest --- Jose Rodriguez, Brendon Hoskinson, Andrew Rullan and Jason Faber.

TIGERS WIN, LOSE ON OHIO TRIP

The Tigers defeated Hilliard Davidson, 9-5, on Friday night, but were shut out, 10-0, by Dublin Jerome on Saturday in a weekend trip to the Columbus, Ohio, area over the weekend. 

After trailing, 2-1, at halftime on Friday night, the Tigers rallied for three goals in a 40-second span in the second half on their way to a 9-5 victory over the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats.  Leading the way for NA were junior attack Jose Rodriguez and senior attack Blaine Simmer with three goals each.  Senior attack Jason Faber added a pair of goals and junior midfield Andrew Rullan the other Tiger goal in the victory.  Senior goalie Matt Rahenkamp made nine saves to secure the victory.  For the Wildcats, senior attack Paul Beery, an Ohio State recruit, had three goals to pace their effort.

On Saturday night, the Tigers ran into a tough Dublin Jerome squad that built a 9-0 lead at halftime and coasted to a 10-victory.  The loss stopped the NA unbeaten streak at six and gave them their first loss of the season.  Rahenkamp made eleven saves, but the Celtics controlled the contest.  Richards had five goals to lead the attack.

The Tigers will continue their travels in Ohio this week with a game at Western Reserve on Thursday with game time scheduled for 5:00 pm.  On Saturday, NA will host another Ohio team, Hudson, with game time set for 3:00 pm at Newman Stadium.

TIGERS TOP RIVAL NORTH HILLS, 13-5

The Tigers defeated North Hills, 13-5, at Martorellli Stadium on Wednesday, March 29.  Leading the Tigers were senior attack Jason Faber with five goals and junior attack Jose Rodriguez with three.  Junior midfield Andrew Rullan scored twice with additional goals tallied by senior attack Brian Territ, senior midfield Brandon Hoskinson, and senior attack Blaine Simmer.

The NA defense played well doubling the Indians in ground ball wins and forced errors.  Leading the way for the Tigers were seniors Ian Cully, senior Caz Waskowicz, and Andrew Stypula.

TIGERS WIN TWO OVER WEEKEND

The Tigers captured two victories in weekend action.  On a cold and snowy Saturday night at Newman Stadium, the Tigers downed Manheim Township, 14-8.  The Tigers never trailed in the contest, taking a 4-1 lead at halftime.  Junior attack Jose Rodriguez and junior midfield Brian Viletto had three goals each to pace the Tigers. 

Adding two goals each to the Tiger total were senior midfield Brandon Hoskinson, junior midfield Andrew Rulllan, senior attack Jason Faber and senior attack Blaine Simmer.  The Tiger defense and midfield dominated play winning 24 ground balls to 6 for Manheim.  In goal, senior Matt Rahenkamp had 16 saves while allowing only five goals.

On Sunday afternoon, NA traveled to Medina (OH) and edged the Bees, 8-7, in double overtime.  The Tigers battled back from two goals down to force overtime.  Hoskinson got the game winner on an assist from Simmer.  Simmer led the scoring with 2 goals and three assists while Rodriguez tallied two goals and an assist.  Faber chipped in with a pair of goals with Viletto recording the other NA score.

The Tiger defense was outstanding as they had a 34 to 24 edge in ground balls led by Rullan, senior defense Ian Cully, and sophomore defense Pat Coleman with each contributing five wins.  Rahenkamp was tough in goal again with 15 saves as Medina posted 29 shots.

The two wins improved the NA overall record to 4-0 in the early season.  The Tigers will travel to North Hills on Wednesday night to meet the rival Indians in an 8:00 pm contest.

FOX CHAPEL FALLS TO TIGERS, 14-6

The Tigers made it two in a row with a 14-6 victory at Fox Chapel on Thursday night.  Junior attack Jose Rodriguez and senior attack Blaine Simmer scored five goals each to pace NA to the victory.  Also scoring for the Tigers were junior midfield Brian Viletto, junior midfield Ryan Bennett, senior attack Jason Faber, and senior defense Ian Cully.

Adding assists for the winning Tigers were Faber, Viletto, Simmer, senior midfield Brandon Hoskinson, and senior attack Brian Territ.  Senior defense Andrew Stypula collected four ground balls and forced a turnover to lead NA on defense.  In all, the Tigers forced 10 turnovers to 3 for the Foxes with Cully adding two to the total.  Senior goalie Matt Rahenkamp stopped 21 Fox Chapel shots to earn the victory in the net. 

The Tigers improved their record to 2-0 on the season as they get ready for a big weekend.  NA will host Manheim tomorrow night at Newman Stadium with game time set for 8:00 pm.  On Sunday afternoon, the Tigers will travel to Medina, Ohio, for a 3:00 pm contest.

TIGERS STOP CARMEL, 9-5, IN SEASON OPENER

Seniors Jason Faber and Blaine Simmer scored four goals each to lead the Tigers to a 9-5 victory over the Carmel (IN) Greyhounds at Newman Stadium on Sunday afternoon.  Senior Brendan Hoskinson also scored for NA with Faber and junior Brian Viletto recording assists.

The Tigers controlled play in the Carmel end for most of the first half and opened a 4-2 halftime lead.  Carmel came back to score three fourth quarter goals, but the Tiger answered as they won for the first time this year.  The Tigers killed off four second half penalties to maintain the lead.  Senior goalie Matt Rahenkamp made nine saves, including several point blank stops to keep the Greyhounds off the board.  The Tigers outshot Carmel, 40-27, on the game.

After posting a 10-12 record last year, the Tigers return 11 seniors and 14 juniors, many of whom were either starters or had extensive experience last year.  The Tiger defense is led by seniors Andrew Stypula and Ian Cully, junior Brendan Farrell, and sophomore Mike Passodelis.

The Tigers will take their 1-0 record on the road on Thursday night when they travel to Fox Chapel.  Varsity game time is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
