TIGER TEAMS TROUNCE KNOCH

Meet Results

The Tiger teams had little trouble with the Knoch Knights in winning both meets at Knoch on Tuesday afternoon.  The boys' squad defeated the Knights, 104-46, while the Lady Tigers won by a 126-24 score.

Leading the boys were senior Max Brown and sophomore Geoff Greco.  Brown won both the 1600 and 3200 while Greco took first in the 110 hurdles.  In addition, Greco added first place finishes in both the high and triple jumps.  Senior Evan Scott won the 100 while senior Bill Knight was first in the 200.

Freshman Brian Austin took second in the 100 and third in the 200.  Taking second place were sophomore Justin Taylor in the 1600, junior Jacob Beatty in the 400, and senior Patrick Baxter in the 3200.  Adding third-place points on the track were sophomore Dan Hoover in the 800, freshman Will Appman in the 1600, and freshman Matt Machiko in the 300 hurdles.

In field events in addition to Greco's first place points, senior Adam Hambrick placed first in the discus and third in the shot.  Junior Garrett Larkin won the shot put and took a second in the discus.  Senior Nick Henderson out jumped all opponents in the long jump and took second in the javelin.  Junior Brenden Leard was first in the javelin.  Junior Tim Lotz added a second in the shot and third in the javelin.  Adding second place points were junior Mark Sestini in both the long and triple jumps and freshman Brian Nimmo in the high jump.

The Lady Tigers dominated the meet winning eight individual track events, seven field events, and all three relay races.  The individual stars for the girls came in field events.  Junior Jade Hambrick was a double winner in the shot and discus and junior Maura Higgins in the long and triple jumps.  Junior Sydney Schwab won the javelin, junior Kristen Zeleznik took the pole vault in addition to finishing third in the 100.  Sophomore Maria Nolan won the high jump.

Junior Megan Hartwig finished second in the javelin, sophomore Pamela Beattie was third in the triple jump, and sophomore Cecily Sunday second in the pole vault.  Third-place points in field events went to junior Melissa Kozak in the shot, junior Samantha Norris in the high jump, and junior Shannon Fusina in the triple jump.

On the track, eight different runners took gold.  Senior Lindsay Appel won the 200, Fusina the 100 hurdles, junior Brooke Carmen the 1600, junior Kelly Langhans the 400, and junior Marissa Butler the 800.  Sophomore Laura Ochs captured the 3200 and took second in the 1600. Freshman Molly Antimarino won the 100 while freshman Dakota McCoy was first in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles.

Second-place points went to senior Michelle Sauer in the 800, freshman Rachel Martin in the 100 hurdles, and sophomore Grace Concelman in the 300 hurdles.  Finishing in third were sophomore Christine Marshall in the 1600, sophomore Aisha Moore in the 400, and sophomore Claire Kairys in the 800.  Freshman Alyssa TeKolste was third in the 3200.

The wins kept the Tiger teams undefeated as they won their third straight section meets.  The Tigers will be back in action again on Tuesday when they host rival North Hills at Newman Stadium.  Meet time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

SECTION SHOWDOWN

Meet Results

It came early this year, but the Tiger teams were up for the occasion as they defeated the Butler Golden Tornado at Newman Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.  The boys' team edged the Tornado, 79-71, while the Lady Tigers won convincingly, 104-46.

In the boys' meet, senior Max Brown led the way, winning all three distance races taking the 1600, 800 and 3200 runs.  Senior Evan Scott won the 100 while senior Nick Henderson outran all opponents in taking the 400.  Second place finishes on the track went to Scott in the 200, sophomore Geoff Greco in the 100 hurdles, sophomore Dan Hoover in the 800 and senior Patrick Baxter in the 3200.  Adding important third place points were freshman Matt Machiko in both hurdles races, senior Bill Knight in the 100 and Baxter in the 1600.  The Tigers won two of the three relay races.

In the field, the Tigers took first in three events with junior Garrett Larkin winning the shot, senior Adam Hambrick the discus, and Greco the triple jump.  Hambrick was second in the shot, Greco second in the high jump, Henderson second in the long jump, and Knight second in the pole vault.  Freshman Brian Nimmo came in third in the high jump.

For the Lady Tigers, junior Kelly Langhans was a double winner capturing the 100 and 200.  Senior Kelley O'Brien won the 1600, senior Lindsay Appel took the 400, freshman Dakota McCoy won the 300 hurdles, senior Michelle Diez was first in the 800, and senior Sarah LeDonne won the grueling 3200 run.  Taking second place points were junior Brooke Carmen in the 1600, freshman Rachel Martin in the 100 hurdles, freshman Molly Antimarino in the 400, junior Marissa Butler in the 800 and sophomore Laura Ochs in the 3200.  Finishing in third for NA were junior Shannon Fusina in the 100 hurdles, Appel in the 100, sophomore Christine Marshall in the 1600, sophomore Grace Concelman in the 300 hurdles, Carmen in the 800, and junior Maura Higgins in the 200.  All three NA relay teams were victorious.

In the field, junior Jade Hambrick was a double winner capturing both the shot put and the discus.  Junior Sydney Schwab was first in the javelin.  Taking seconds for NA were sophomore Ginny Thistle in the discus, sophomore Maria Nolan in the high jump, Higgins both the long jump and triple jump, and junior Kristen Zeleznik in the pole vault.  Junior Samantha Norris was third in the high jump, and sophomore Pamela Beattie took third in the long jump.

The wins kept the Tiger teams unbeaten at 2-0 in section meets.  The Tiger squads will travel to Knoch on Tuesday for a 3:30 pm section meet.

LADY TIGERS CAPTURE TRI-STATE COACHES OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP

The Lady Tigers finished two points ahead of Bradford to win the Tri-State Coaches Outdoor Championship at West Mifflin on Saturday. Erie McDowell captured the boys' title with Erie Cathedral Prep second and Bradford third.

Leading the way for the Lady Tigers were junior Kelly Langhans, who won the 400, and junior Jade Hambrick, who took first in the discus.  Senior Lindsay Appel was second in the 400, junior Sydney Schwab captured second in the javelin, and the 4 x 100 relay team earned silver.  Hambrick place third in the shot put while junior Kristen Zeleznik took the bronze in the pole vault.  Junior Melissa Kozak finished fifth in the shot put.

For the boys' team, the field events saw some promising results.  Junior Garrett Larkin was second in the shot put, senior Adam Hambrick place second in the discus, and junior Sean Gil took the silver in the pole vault. 

The Tiger teams will be back in action again on Tuesday afternoon when they host section rival Butler in a section meet.  The scheduled starting time is set for 3:30 pm.

TIGER TEAMS OVERWHELM PINE-RICHLAND
 IN OPENER

Meet Results

The Tiger track and field teams successfully opened their season on Thursday afernoon at Pine-Richland Stadium with a pair of victories.  The Lady Tigers crushed the Rams, 133-17, while the boys' team won in convincing fashion over P-R., 98-52. 

In the victory by the Lady Tigers, junior Kelly Langhans led the way with a pair of victories in the 400 and 200.  Senior Kelley O'Brien won the 1600 while senior Michelle Diez took the 800.  Second place finishes went to senior Lindsay Appel in the 100 and 400, freshman Dakota McCoy in the 300 hurdles, junior Melissa Kozak in the triple jump and O'Brien in the 800.  Earning third-place points for NA were junior Brooke Carmen in the 1600, freshman Rachel Martin in the 100 hurdles, sophomore Aisha Moore in the 400, sophomore Grace Concelman in the 300 hurdles, and senior Sarah LeDonne in the 3200.  All three NA relay teams won their races.

In field events, junior Maura Higgins won the triple jump and junior Kristen Zeleznik was first in the pole vault competition, while junior Kristen Kozak won the high jump and long jump.  Second place points went to junior Jade Hambrick in both the discus and shot, junior Sydney Schwab in the javelin, junior Maura Higgins in the long jump, and Kozak in the triple jump.  Finishing third for NA were sophomore Ginny Thistle in both the javelin and discus and sophomore Cecily Sunday in the long jump.

For the Tigers boys' team, senior Evan Scott and sophomore Patrick Morgan were both double winners.  Scott took the 100 and 200 while Morgan finished first in both the 1600 and 3200.  Also recording first place finishes for NA were sophomore Geoff Greco in the 110 hurdles, senior Garth Scheidemantel in the 400 and senior Collin Burry in the 800.  Second-place points went to freshman Matt Machiko in both hurdles races, senior John Boujoukos in the 1600, junior Jacob Beatty in the 400, sophomore Dan Hoover in the 800, senior Nick Henderson in the 200 and senior Patrick Baxter in the 3200.  Taking third for NA were sophomore Nick Lang in the 100 hurdles, sophomore Jake Holdcroft in the 1600, sophomore Mike Lanz in the 300 hurdles, Boujoukos in the 800, and sophomore Matt Jacob in the 300.  All three Tiger relay teams were victorious.

In the field, Greco won both the high and long jumps while Henderson was first in the long jump.  Freshman Brian Austin took second in the high jump with junior Mark Sestini finishing second in the triple jump.  Freshman Brian Nimmo was third in the high jump, Greco third in the long jump, and Henderson third in the triple jump.

On Saturday, the Tiger teams will compete the the Tri-County Invitational at West Mifflin.  Meet time is scheduled for 8:30 am.
