GAME SUMMARIES

TIGERS TOP HAMPTON, 5-2, TO REMAIN IN FIRST PLACE

Senior Andrew Guntrum scored three times to lead the Tigers to a 5-2 victory over Hampton on Sunday afternoon at the RMU-Island Sports Center.  Seniors Ben Basara and Mike Lorish also scored for the Tigers who won their third straight.

The Tigers struck quickly with two goals in the first three minutes of the game.  Basara put NA on top, 1-0, on an assist from freshman Dylan Rohar.  A minute and a half later, Lorish scored with Guntrum recording the assist to make it a 2-0 game.  Guntrum picked up his first goal with 1:40 remaining in the period as the Tigers opened a 3-0 advantage after one period.

Early in the second period, Guntrum scored again on assists from Lorish and Rohar to extend the margin to 4-0.  Ethan Mahaffey came back to put Hampton on the board with 3:45 left in the period, but the Tigers took a commanding 4-1 lead into the final period.  After Guntrum scored early to complete the hat trick, Kyle Hefrich scored the Talbots' second goal, but that was all they would get as the Tigers earned a 5-2 victory.

Senior goalie Brian Steinmiller stopped 19 of 21 Talbot shots to earn the victory.  NA outshot Hampton, 39-21, in the contest.  Rohar had three assists for the winning Tigers.

With the win, the Tigers maintained a one-point lead over second-place Bethel Park in the PIRHL standings.  NA will be back in action again on Sunday afternoon when they meet the Seneca Valley Raiders.  Game time at the RMU-Island Sports Center is scheduled for 5:30 pm.

KOCENT'S HAT TRICK LEADS TIGERS
OVER SHALER, 8-2

Senior Alex Kocent scored three times to pace the Tigers to an 8-2 victory over Shaler at Bladerunners in Harmarville on Sunday evening.  Seniors Andrew Guntrum and Ben Basara added two goals for the Tigers with senior Mitch Moulton also tallying a goal.

The Tigers opened the scoring quickly in the first period when Moulton gave NA a 1-0 lead just 1:15 into the game.  Guntrum made it 2-0 at the 10:15 mark, and Basara extended the margin to 3-0 on an assist from junior Eric Pelly with 8:32 still on the first period clock.  Guntrum scored his second goal of the period with senior Mike Lorish picking up the helper as the Tigers took a commanding 4-0 lead with 4:27 remaining.  Brian Morrison got Shaler on the board with 3:10 remaining in the period, but NA took a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.

The second period was all North Allegheny as the Tigers increased the lead to 7-1.  Kocent got his first goal just 14 seconds into the period on an assist from senior Chris Korenoski.  Basara tallied his second of the game, unassisted at the 8:08 mark as the lead went to 6-1.  Kocent scored again from Basara with 4:40 remaining as the Tigers took a 7-1 advantage into the final period.

After Taylor Krebs scored for Shaler, Kocent scored his third goal with 3:31 left in the game as NA finished off an impressive 8-2 victory.  Senior Brian Steinmiller stopped 17 Shaler shots to earn the victory in goal for the Tigers.  NA recorded 32 shots on the Shaler net.

With the win, the Tigers maintained their position in first place in the PIRHL as they improved their record to 8-1-1.  NA will play Hampton on Sunday afternoon, January 8,  at the RMU-Island Sports Center with game time scheduled for 12:30 pm.

TIGERS RALLY TO BEAT
BALDWIN, 10-9

After trailing, 5-2, after one period, the Tigers came back to edge Baldwin, 10-9, at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday afternoon.  Senior defenseman Ian McGlumphy scored the game winner with just 1:30 remaining in the third period.  Senior Mitch Moulton scored four goals to lead NA with McGlumphy and senior Chris Gilson adding two goals each as the Tigers took over first place in the PIRHL.

Baldwin jumped all over NA early scoring the first four goals of the game.  A.J. Reeves scored twice with Brad Haas and Craig Canofari also scoring as Baldwin took a 4-0 lead with 8:08 remaining.  Moulton finally got the Tigers on the board on an assist from McGlumphy at the 7:30 mark to cut the lead to 4-1.   Nick Posa answered less than a minute later as Baldwin regained the four-goal advantage.  Gilson made it 5-2 on an assist from senior Alex Kocent, but Baldwin took a commanding three-goal lead into the first intermission.

The Tigers regrouped early in the second period to get back in the game.  McGlumphy set up Moulton for his second goal of the game at the 12:10 mark, and Gilson scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 5-4 with 10:41 remaining in the period.  Posa answered for the Highlanders at the 9:27 mark to push the lead back to two at 6-4.  After McGlumphy scored to cut the margin to 6-5, Chad Revak tallied to extend the margin to 7-5 with 5:32 on the second period clock.  Moulton's third goal brought NA back to within one as the second period ended with Baldwin holding a 7-6 advantage.

Just 20 seconds into the final period, Baldwin regained a two-goal lead on Matt Schneider's score.  The Tigers were not finished, however, and rallied to score three straight goals and take the lead.  After Chris Garrett scored at the 13:20 mark, senior Mike Lorish tied the game at 8-8 on yet another assist from McGlumphy.  Moulton's fourth goal put NA on top for the first time when he scored at the 7:42 mark.  With time running out, Nick Hinsch tied the game for Baldwin with 2:30 remaining.  The stage was set for McGlumphy who scored the game winner with just a minute and 30 seconds left in the game.  The Tigers were able to hold on and pick up the big victory that gave them the lead in league play.

It was a wild game at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday afternoon with the two teams combining for 78 shots.  NA posted 39 while the Highlanders recorded 38.  Junior goalie Nick Bradley held on to gain the victory in the NA net.  McGlumphy ended up with two goals and three assists for the winning Tigers.

The win improved the NA record to 7-1-1 and gave them a one-game lead over Baldwin.  The Tigers will travel to Bladerunners in Harmarville to face Shaler on Sunday with game time scheduled for 5:00 pm.

BETHEL PARK HANDS TIGERS FIRST LOSS, 3-1

The Tigers dropped their first game of the season on Sunday afternoon at the RMU-Island Sports Center when Bethel Park edged NA, 3-1.  The Blackhawks opened a 3-0 lead before senior Mitch Moulton scored with just two seconds remaining in the game to avoid the shutout.

After a scoreless first period, Jason Hasko scored the all-important first goal of the game at the 10:40 mark to give Bethel a 1-0 lead.  Neither team scored again in the period as the Blackhawks took a 1-0 advantage into the final period.

Jon Loeffler made it 2-0 at the 6:05 mark.  After Nick Brown scored with 2:13 remaining to increase the margin to 3-0, Moulton scored his seventh goal of the season to make the final score, 3-1.  Joe Timpona was in goal for Bethel Park and stopped 31 of 32 shots.  Senior Brian Steinmiller was in the NA net.  NA outshot Bethel Park, 32-22, in the game.

With the loss, the NA record dropped to 6-1-1 on the season.  The Tigers are now tied with Baldwin and play the Highlanders in a battle for first place on Sunday afternoon.  Game time is scheduled for 2:30 pm at the RMU-Island Sports Center.

MOULTON'S HAT TRICK LEADS TIGERS OVER WEST ALLEGHENY, 10-4

Senior Mitch Moulton scored three goals as the Tigers pounded West Allegheny, 10-4, on Sunday afternoon at the RMU-Island Sports Center.  Seniors Alex Kocent and Ben Basara added two goals each while senior Mike Lorish recorded a pair of assists for the winning Tigers.

West Allegheny jumped off to a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Jordan Meyers just 2:01 into the contest.  NA answered when Basara scored on an assist from Lorish at the 8:44 mark.  Senior Chris Garrett tallied a power play goal with 6:02 left in the period to give the Tigers their first lead at 2-1.  After Andy Slifko tied the game at 2-2, Moulton's first goal put NA ahead for good with 2:50 remaining in the period.  Kocent extended the margin with an unassisted goal with 1:48 on the first period clock as the Tigers took a 4-2 lead into the first intermission.

Early in the second period, a goal by Brad Carr cut the NA lead to 4-3 at the 10:46 mark.  Kocent came back to score his second goal of the game at the 4:38 mark to push the margin to 5-3.  Moulton's second goal made it 6-3 with just 30 seconds remaining in the period.  The Tigers took a three-goal lead into the final period.

Basara tallied his second goal at the 11:03 mark of the third period to extend the lead to 7-3.  Senior Chris Gilson made it 8-3 with an unassisted marker at the 6:49 mark.  After junior Andrew Guntrum found the net to increase the lead to 9-3 with 4:33 left in the game, Meyers second goal of the game cut the lead to 9-4.  Moulton put the finishing touch on an impressive NA victory with his third goal of the game at the 2:48 mark.  With Moulton's hat trick, the Tigers completed a 10-4 win over the Indians.  The Tigers outshot the Indians, 44-26, with senior Brian Steinmiller picking up the win in goal for the Tigers.

With the win, the NA record improved to 6-0-1 as the Tigers maintained their position in the top spot in the league standings.  NA will be back in action again on Sunday, December 4, when they meet Bethel Park at the RMU-Island Sports Center.  Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

TIGERS TOP BETHEL PARK, 2-1

The Tigers scored twice in the first period and held off Bethel Park as they picked up a hard fought 2-1 victory at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday night.  Seniors Ian McGlumphy and Mike Lorish scored the NA goals while senior Brandon Wiedwald stopped 31 of 32 shots to register the victory.

Midway through the first period, McGlumphy scored on an assist from Lorish to give the Tigers the all important first goal and a 1-0 advantage.  Lorish scored later in the period as the Tigers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Bethel Park came back to cut the lead in half when Jon Loeffler scored on an assist from Nick Brown with 4:44 remaining in the period.  Neither team could score for the remainder of the game as NA held the one-goal lead to pick up the 2-1 victory.  The Tigers outshot Bethel Park, 41-32, in the game.

With the win, the NA record improved to 5-0-1 on the season and kept them in first place in the Varsity 1 division of the PIRHL standings.  The Tigers will take on West Allegheny on Sunday with game time set for 5:30 pm at the RMU-Island Sports Center.
