TIGERS ROLL OVER KISKI 49-7 To listen to a replay of the broadcast, click here! North Allegheny seized control early and coasted to a 49-7 non-section win over Kiski Area on Friday night. The Tigers began rolling from the outset as senior Matt Steinbeck returned the opening kickoff 65 yards to the Kiski 24. Four plays later, Alex Papson ran the ball in from three yards out and the Tigers held a 7-0 lead just two minutes into the ballgame. After a three and out by Kiski, the Tigers drove the ball 62 yards in nine plays, capped off by another three yard touchdown run by Papson. That score made it 14-0 North Allegheny with 4:40 to go in the first quarter. The NA defense forced the first turnover of the game moments later when Steinbeck intercepted a Tim Johnson pass and was tackled at the Kiski 30. Tigers senior quarterback Michael Buchert tossed the ball right back to Steinbeck for a 24 yard reception to the Kiski four yard line. Papson got the call again and punched the ball in the end zone from four yards out to increase the Tigers advantage to 21-0 with 1:41 left in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the NA defense decided they wanted to get in on the scoring as well. Kiski running back Aaron Frye coughed the ball up at the 42 yard line and Tigers linebacker Kevin Clemens scooped it up and carried the fumble into the end zone. The defensive touchdown upped the Tigers lead to 28-0 with over 10 minutes left in the first half. As the teams traded possessions during much of the second quarter, North Allegheny took over the football at midfield with exactly one minute left in the half. Without a timeout, the Tigers didn't need much time to score. After an incompletion to start the drive, Papson carried the ball 50 yards for his fourth touchdown of the night and NA took a 35-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. The mercy rule kept the clock moving in the second half and the Tigers' reserves kept the football moving as well. After a scoreless third quarter, NA touched the scoreboard again with a nine play, 73 yard drive that was finished off on a seven yard Vinnie Congedo touchdown run. That made the score 42-0 Tigers. Kiski would eventually break the shut-out with 6:26 to play on a seven yard touchdown run by Frye. The Tigers capped off the scoring with 4:53 left to play as junior Anthony Peluso streaked down the far sideline with a 71 yard touchdown run, bringing the final score to 49-7.. Along with the four touchdowns, Papson ended the night with 112 yards rushing, earning him the Wright Automotive Player of the Game Award. Steinbeck racked up 134 all-purpose yards, doing most of his work on kickoff and punt returns. The Tigers defense was once again dominant, forcing three turnovers and scoring one touchdown on their own. North Allegheny improves their record to 6-0 on the season and will visit section foe Pine-Richland next Friday night. The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:10 pm. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
