Senior HB Matt Steinbeck scored a pair of quick touchdowns early in the second half to give the Tigers a commanding lead as they went on to a 47-10 conference victory over Seneca Valley at Newman Stadium on Homecoming on Friday night.  Senior HB Alex Papson added two first half scores while gaining 113 yards on the night.  Sophomore HB Alex DeCiantis recovered a fumble in the end zone and sophomore QB Tommy Keisling scored on a quarterback sneak for the other NA scores.

Seneca Valley took an early 3-0 lead on a bizarre first drive of the game.  After Troy Witt was stopped after a return of only nine yards to the SV 20, the Tigers nailed Witt for a two-yard loss on the first play from scrimmage.  QB Jordan Brown then found David Hall open down the middle for a gain of 27 and a first down to the 45.  A low snap forced a loss of seven on first down and two short pass plays gained only three yards forcing a Raider punt.  On the punt, the Tigers were called for roughing the kicker giving SV a first down at the NA 44.  On first down, the Raiders were called for holding moving the ball back to the SV 45.  On the next play, Brown threw to WR Jordan Glaser for a long gain, but the Tigers forced a fumble and recovered inside the 15.  A face mask penalty against NA negated the fumble recovery and gave SV a first down at the Tiger 10.  On the next play, senior CB Steve Ferringer made a diving interception at the 3, but the Tigers were flagged for pass interference moving the ball to the 5.  The Tiger defense then stepped up to stop David Hall for three yards on two plays.  On third and goal from the two, a bad snap was recovered by Brown at the 11.  Aaron Tanda came in to kick a 28-yard field goal to give Seneca a 3-0 lead with 6:10 remaining in the quarter.  Tanda’s kickoff went out of bounds giving the Tigers the ball at the 35 for their opening drive.  It took just eight plays for NA to take the lead.  On first dwon, Steinbeck ran the right side for 16 and a first down at the SV 49.  After Papson got three up the middle, Steinbeck raced around the left side for 33 yards and a first down at the Raider 13.  Steinbeck was injured on the play but would return later.  After the injury time out, Papson ran the ball five consecutive times finally taking it in from three yards out.  Senior PK Alex Greenblatt converted to put NA on top, 7-3, with 2:31 remaining in the quarter.  On the ensuing kickoff, Witt returned the ball out to the Raider 20.  On first down, Brown found Hall open down the middle again for 16 and a first down at the 36.  After two plays lost two yards, it Brown to Hall on a middle screen for 20 yards and a first down at the NA 46.   A holding call on first down moved the ball back to the SV 42.  After an incomplete pass, two successive motion penalties took the ball back ten more yards to the 32.  A quarterback draw by Brown was stopped for no gain as the quarter ended.  The Tigers took a 7-3 lead into the second period.

A scramble by Brown gained 17 to start the second quarter, but the Raiders were forced to punt with junior WR James Kleinhampl making a fair catch at the NA 35.  On first down, senior QB Mike Buchert ran a keeper for first down.  An offsides penalty against the Raiders gave NA a first down at the 46.  Papson then got loose up the middle for 38 yards giving the Tigers a first and goal at the Raider 8.  A personal foul on the play moved the ball half the distance to the 4.  After a SV time out, Papson was caught for a two yard loss.  A pass from Buchert to senior WR Dan Slivka was caught just out of the end zone, but NA was called for holding moving the ball back to the 16.  After an incomplete pass, an attempted screen pass was incomplete but the Tigers were flagged again, this time for an ineligible receiver downfield.  The penalty was refused and the Tigers set up for a field goal try from the 33.  SV was then called for an illegal substitution with the kick now coming from the 28.  Greenblatt’s attempt just made it over the crossbar to give NA a 10-3 just 1:33 into the quarter.  On the kickoff by senior Diego Febres-Cordero, Jonathan Dorogy returned the ball to the SV 21.  After three plays lost five yards, Tanda dropped back to punt.  The snap was fumbled with the Tigers taking over at the Raider 5.  At this point, the Seneca defense stepped up.  After the snap was fumbled and recovered by Papson, a pass to Slivka at the back of the end zone was caught just out of bounds.  On third and goal, Papson was stopped after a gain of just one.  Greenblatt came in and kicked another field goal, this time from 23 yards to extend the NA margin to 13-3.  Dorogy was able to return the kickoff only to the SV 17.  After Hall got three on first down, Brown found Glaser open for a gain of 17 and a first down to the 31.  A screen pass to Hall, lost one, and Brown lost two more on the next play.   A pass in the flat from Brown to Witt picked up six, but the Raiders were forced to punt with Kleinhampl who returned the ball for a yard to the NA 31.  The Tigers then went on an eight-play 69-yard drive.  After Buchert was sacked for a loss of eight on first down, Buchert threw deep down the middle with Slivka making a leaping catch at the SV 39.  On the next play, Papson got 15 around the right side for a first down at the Raider 21.  Buchert ran a keeper for nine and Papson gained two more and another first down at the Seneca 8.  After a Raider time out, Papson ran left for five to the three.  On the next play, Papson ran the right side for the score, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season.  Greenblatt again was true on the conversion as the Tigers took a 20-3 lead with 2:41 left in the half.  The Tigers forced another Raider punt that was downed at the NA 45.  On the first play, Mike Martin made a diving interception to give the ball back to the Raiders at their own 24.  Seneca picked up three first downs in the remaining time but three incomplete passes ended the half.  The Tigers took the 20-3 advantage to the intermission.

Steinbeck got the Tigers off and running in the second half by returning the kickoff 49 yards to the Seneca 43.  On second and eight, Papson ran up the middle for 14 and a first down at the 27.  After Papson got four more to the 23, Buchert hit Steinbeck down the middle with a scoring strike to extend the Tiger lead.  Greenblatt again added the point as NA took a 27-3 lead just 1:50 into the third quarter.  On the ensuing kickoff by Febres-Cordero, the Raiders fumbled the ball with junior DE Nate Nachazel recovering at the Raider 17.  On the first play, Steinbeck took a handoff from Papson on a reverse and ran 17 yards untouched into the end zone.  Greenblatt again tacked on the point as the NA lead increased to 34-3.  After Dorogy brought the kickoff back to the 24, three consecutive incomplete passes brought up another Seneca punting situation.  The snap to Tanda went over his head and sophomore RB Alex DeCiantis fell on the ball in the end zone for another NA score.  Greenblatt made his fifth extra point of the game, his 21st out of 22 tries so far this season.  With the score at 41-3, the mercy rule kicked in with 9:22 still remaining in the quarter.  Witt returned the kickoff to the SV 23, a return of 18 yards.  After Hall lost four yards on first down, the Tigers were called for pass interference giving Seneca a first down at the 34.  The Raiders were then called for holding moving the ball back to the Raider 24.  Brown then found Witt open for a gain of 25 and a first down at the SV 49.  A short pass from Brown to Oliver Philogene gained just two but did pick up a first down at the NA 49.  Brown threw to Glaser for an 18-yard gain and another first down at the Tiger 31.  After a holding penalty moved the ball back to the 40, a short pass in the flat to Forrest Barnes gained 16 and another first down at the Tiger 14.  Three running plays by Barnes got only two yards net, and a fourth down pass was broken up by sophomore CB Chas Smith as the Tigers took over at the own 12.  Three plays got only one yard gained as the third quarter ended with the Tigers holding a commanding 41-3 advantage.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Steinbeck punted for the first time in the game with the ball downed at the 50 yard line.  After two incomplete passes, Brown hit Barnes over the middle and the Raider sophomore took it the distance into the end zone.  Tanda’s extra point made it a 41-10 NA lead with 10:07 still left in the quarter.  Tanda’s kickoff was returned by senior Clay Bunting to the NA 36.  Coach Art Walker sent in his second offensive unit and they came through with a 10-play 64-yard drive to score another NA touchdown.  On a second and ten, Keisling threw to a diving Kleinhampl who made the catch on the 49 for a gain of 13 and a first down.  Junior FB Anthony Peluso then ran up the middle for five, and sophomore HB Vinnie Congedo added four more to the 42.  On third and short, Keisling picked up two and a first down on a quarterback sneak.  Congedo followed with a run up the middle for 15 and another first down at the SV 25.  Keisling then ran around the left end for 14 and a first down at the Raider 11.  After DeCiantis got five to the nine, Congedo raced up the middle for four more to the one.  On the next play, Keisling took it in for the score.  The snap was fumbled on the extra point attempt keeping the score at 47-10 with 2:54 remaining in the game.  After Witt returned the kickoff to the SV 26, a third down run by junior QB Tyler Mayo got a first down at the Raider 37.  A run by Dorogy gained sixteen more and another first down at the Tiger 43.  Mayo ran for three more as time ran out.  The Tigers remained unbeaten with the dominating 47-10 conference victory over Seneca Valley.

After a less than perfect first half, the Tigers needed little time in the third quarter to gain total control of the game.  NA rushed for 233 yards to a total net yards rushing of just 12 by Seneca Valley.  Along with Papson’s 113 yards, Steinbeck added 66 on just three runs.  Buchert was two for seven for 62 yards and a touchdown on a night when the Tigers did not have to pass often.  Slivka led the NA receivers with a 39-yard reception.  The Tiger defense played well again, particularly against the rush.  Senior LB Brandon Hanselman led NA with six solo and two unassisted tackles with senior LB Kevin Cope adding five solo and three assisted stops.  Bunting, and junior LB Lucas Hook both had five solo tackles for the winning Tigers.  The North Allegheny Sports Network selected Matt Steinbeck as the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.  Steinbeck had 66 yards rushing, 23 on a pass reception, and returned a kickoff for 49 yards on the night.

With the win, NA improved to 3-0 in conference play, 5-0 overall on the season.  The Tigers will host Kiski Area on Friday night in a non-conference contest at Newman Stadium.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 7:05 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
