NORTH ALLEGHENY DOMINATES TRI STATE JV CHAMPIONSHIPS

Thursday afternoon at Cooper's Lake both the boys and girls cross country teams qualified for the state race, scheduled for Saturday, November 6, in Hershey.

In sloppy conditions at Schenley Park on Monday, North Allegheny Cross Country ran away from the competition, winning both the boys and the girls races at the Tri State JV Championships.  The boys took 20 of the top 35 places overall, including 7 of the top 10.  The winner was junior Dan Whitehurst, sloshing across the finish in 17:36, twenty one seconds ahead of second place finisher Cordon Louco.

The girls had an even better day than the boys, sweeping the first 7 places, and finishing with 10 runners in the top 11.  They were paced by Ali Greco and Hailey Bayer, finishing in stride together, with a time of 20:23.

Varsity cross country resumes this Thursday at Cooper's Lake, near Slippery Rock, with the WPIAL Championships.  The top four teams and top twenty individuals will advance to the state meet in Hershey.

Both Tiger teams were victorious in the 2010 Boardman Spartan Invitational meet at Boardman High School near Youngstown on Saturday.  Senior Ryan Gil finished first and junior Logan Steiner second as the boys easily won with 37 points to second place Hudson's 156.  Senior Eleni Mermigas was the top finisher for the Lady Tigers, but NA placed four runners in the top 20 as they edged North Canton Hoover, 92-101.

For the boys, sophomore Mike Meehan came in seventh and senior Joe Pane tenth with junior Tim Appman 17th as the Tigers dominated the meet.  For the Lady Tigers, it was again an overall team performance that gave them victory.  Junior Lizzie Appleton finished in 17th place, freshman Caitlyn Carmody 19th, senior Kelley Harrington 20th, and sophomore Alex Gambill 23rd for the winning NA team.
