North Allegheny Cheerleader Booster Meeting

Monday, August 16, 2010

 Minutes

 Opening remark

President Monica Gambino opened the meeting at 7:05 and gave a warm welcome to all the cheerleader parents attending.

Approval of the minutes

Minutes from the May meeting were posted on the North Allegheny Athletic Department website and were moved for approval by Andrea Conley and seconded by Kathy Machiko. All members voted in favor of approval of the minutes.

Old Business

Mini Camp

Mini Camp was again another huge success, thanks to all especially Barb McGill. This year we had 220 future cheerleaders learning dances, jumps and tumbling taught by our Varsity, JV and Freshman squads.

Football Programs

Cheerleader dedications for the Football programs have been received and turned into the football boosters.

Team Pictures

All team photos have been taken. Team pictures and individual pictures are available on the Scott Studio website for purchase. Senior cheerleader pictures will be located at on the wall near the gymnasiums at NASH.

New Business

Amended By-Laws

Last year, it was announced that the NA Cheerleading Boosters would be filing to become a non-profit 501(c) entity. This project was undertaken by Monica Gambino and tonight she presented amended By-Laws to the membership for approval. Once approved by the membership she will be filing them with the state. The amended By-Laws were sent by email to the membership for review in advance of the meeting. In addition, time was allowed for the membership to review the amended By-Laws prior to voting. Patti Amos made a motion to accept the amended By-Laws and the motion was seconded by Joanne Verez. The membership voted in favor of approval.

Football Season Tickets and Parking Passes

Football season tickets and parking passes were available for Cheerleading Booster members to purchase. The Cheerleading Boosters wish to thank Patti McClure for attending and assisting with sales.

Important Dates

The Schedule for the Booster meetings will be as follows: Sept 7, Oct 11, November 15 December 13 January 10 and February 7 th . All meetings will be held at the Baierl Center in the Ponce Room. Please make every effort to attend.

Homecoming will be October 1 st and all squads will attend.

Senior night will be October 22.

Unite on Game night will be hosted by North Hills cheerleaders on October 29 th . This is the annual Coat drive. We will need cheerleaders to attend the game and help collect coats. Beth Vouno offered to help.

The annual tailgate party will be held on Sept 10. More information will be provided by Kelly Gill and Jackie Klinvex at a later date. Please join the Varsity, JV and freshman cheerleaders and their families for this wonderful event.

Tentative cheer competition dates are as follows:

November 20 2010 Pa states Johnstown

November 27 2010 Elite states Pittsburgh (tentative)

December 4, 2010 UCA regionals Slippery Rock University

January 23 or 30 2011 Keystone competition State College

February 10-14 2011 UCA high School Nationals Orlando Florida.

Fundraising

Spirit T shirt sales will begin in September. The design has been selected and again we will be taking orders at all the schools. Sharon Burnham is the chair for the Spirit shirt sales and she request volunteers to help with sales at the schools and at open house. We will no longer be putting flyers in the Thursday envelopes because North Allegheny has gone green and all flyers will be on the web. The boosters wish to thank Sharon for all her hard work getting our second largest fundraiser underway. Beth Williams requested when selling T shirts please bring your daughter in cheer uniform to help sales and get the word out.

Ann Burnett fundraising Chair reported on an opportunity to participate in this fundraiser with the Blue Water Tavern. Please mention the NA Cheerleaders and 5% of your bill will be donated to the Cheerleading Boosters Association.

Treasurer’s report

Treasurer Mary Ellen Austin reported our income is 16,620. We will no longer have individual account and all fundraising activities will be for the squads. Please be sure to pay your booster dues. The cheer Boosters would also like to thank Patti Amos with her assistance with the treasury during Minicamp.

Choreography for the competition team will be due soon.

Clothing report

Beth Vouno reported on the change in clothing sales. The vendors this year were responsible for sales and collection of cheer items. All orders were placed and all the clothing was in and most distributed to the teams. Mega phones are also in for Varsity and they will receive decals and directions on how to decorate their megaphones. Cheerleaders will also be receiving a bill for hair bows. Please get that money into your representative or Beth as soon as you receive the bow.

Beth also reported on the inventory of Mini Camp clothing for next year. We had a great sale this year of the Lime green shirts and only have 16 remaining for next year minicamp. Beth requested we order more shirts for next year in the children sizes.

UBO

United Booster Organization No report /no meetings UBO meetings will be attended by Moncel Deitz and Sandi Binz. Look for future reports to come.

Annual President’s Meeting with the Athletic department

Presidents meeting took place August 14 th 2010. Bob Bozzuto reported on possible changes to Title 9 effecting how sports are funded for men and women’s and how this future change could affect fundraising on all the teams. There are plans to improve areas near the stadium this spring. 

Squad reports

Varsity: Patti Amos reported the varsity teams will be divided up into two groups for soccer (gold and black) each squad will take a turn decorating lockers and leaving candy for each player. On senior night the Varsity underclassmen will also decorate the Senior Cheerleaders lockers as well.

JV Jane Maroni reported that all pictures are taken. JV will be selling T shirts at the game and she will need 3 helpers per game for only 3 games. Please volunteer your time.

Freshman: Vicky Settino reported their pictures were also finished.

Relay for Life

This year the cheerleaders participated in Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. Beth Vuono reported on the wonderful event and how moving it was during the candlelight service. Next year she requested the cheerleaders increase their participation and bring a bigger tent to include more friends.
