CHEERLEADERS NA CHEERLEADING BOOSTER MEETING MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 2008 MINUTES Welcome and approval of the minutes Penn State Competition – Rose Woolley There is a picture of the Junior Varsity squad on the NA Athletic home page. The Boosters paid for the competition fees, coach bus, and juice, bagel and water for each girl. Senior Night - Anthea Kachulis Senior night is this Friday, January 18th. The cheerleaders will walk through the arch with their parents. This will take place before the game at 7:30. Website – Ann Moss Trying to beef up the website with action shots. Really need Varsity squad pictures. Email to AMCMoss@verizon.net. Can feature senior girls from senior night or any other suggestions anyone might have. UBO – Amy Flannelly Amy has the t-shirts and certificates. The average GPA was 3.5 for the team UBO will give five scholarships based on the end of the first semester grades senior year. Three other $350 scholarships will be randomly selected from members of all booster organizations. Amy will be selling Kennywood tickets at mini-camp this year. The wrestling match against Hampton was cancelled because Hampton had confirmed cases MRSA. There was a confirmed case at Carson Middle School. Letters were sent out to parents. Mats are cleaned by the custodians. Mini-camp – Dianne Thumma Mini-camp will be held the week after school is out. Request that the squad reps send out an email to recruit anyone interested in chairing mini-camp and/or volunteering to help out. Having cheerleading tryouts earlier than May would help out in securing volunteers for mini-camp as most people do not volunteer until they know whether their daughter made the squad. Will reserve the NAI building tomorrow for this year's mini-camp. Banquet – Rose Woolley Possible dates we are looking into for the banquet are March 12, 13, 26 or 27. The dates will be coordinated with the coaches and competitive squads. The banquet will be held at Wildwood Country Club. Anyone interested in helping with the banquet can attend a meeting on February 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the Panera’s in Wexford in the back room. Prom Donation – Rose Woolley The Boosters usually donate $100 toward the senior prom. A motion was made and seconded to donate again this year. Treasurer's Report – Patti Amos T-shirts are still being sold. MJ Pelusi took them to the basketball game and only two sold. With the profits all coaches' fees for Nationals were paid, plus competition fees, coach bus and snack for girls for the PennState competition. Looking at sending approximately $2,000 to supplement the meals for the girls at Nationals. Have not yet paid security guard for Nationals. We may have to pay for the buses to take the girls from NASH to the airport and back for Nationals. There will be two busses which will leave around 4:30 a.m. Bethlehem Women’s Shelter – Sue Costello Thank you to all who donated. Five huge garbage bags were filled with gifts for the women. They sent a thank you to all saying how much they truly appreciated everyone’s generosity. Nationals – Rose Woolley We will be hosting a preview show for all area squads that will be competing at Nationals to practice their routines in front of an audience. Last year we made $350. The money will go toward food for the girls for Nationals. We will charge a one dollar admission fee for 12 and older. We will have a 50/50 raffle and a concession stand. The preview show will be held on Sunday, February 3rd at NASH gym. The show will be over by 4 or 4:30. MJ Pelusi and Sandy Mencini are chairing. It was decided by vote that $5 would be collected from all JV and Varsity parents to pay for the items for the concession stand. Any leftover candy, etc. will go into snack bags that will be made for the girls for Nationals. Volunteers will be needed to collect entry fees and stamp hands at the door. Also, volunteers needed for the 50/50, and volunteers to run the concession stand – two varsity and two junior varsity parents to switch off as needed while the respective squads are performing. Volunteers are also needed to vacuum the mats. There will be a parent meeting held by the coaches to go over the rules at Nationals, the itinerary, and to answer any questions. There is a film that is mandatory for the girls to watch and papers to sign. This will probably be the last week in January or thereabouts. Sandy Mencini will bring stationery for parents to write a note of support to their girls to be given to them at Nationals. Squad Reports – Freshmen – Jeannine Cavanaugh The Freshmen squad will write notes to each girl as a means of bringing the teams together as one organization supporting each other. They will be given to the girls on the bus going to the airport. The notes can be given to Coach Lindsey as she will be attending Nationals. Junior Varsity – Patti Mihalopoulos The JV squad needs pictures for use on the posters that are made for the banquet. Please forward to MJ Pelusi or Patti Mihalopoulos. Varsity - Joann Vandergrift Varsity will be decorating senior boys’ and girls’ lockers Thursday after school. Rose will send extra candy and streamers. There is a new schedule for January so be sure to check out the latest edition as there were a lot of changes made to the prior January schedule. Pictures are needed for posters for varsity as well. Copies of pictures are appreciated. Please give them to Joann Vandergrift or Jane Marroni. New Business – Patti Amos Much discussion was held regarding the billing procedure currently in place and how we could improve on the current system. The members present agreed that perhaps using a system of three bills per year may be more effective than the current monthly billing system
