TIGER RUNNERS COMPETE IN MID-EAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Seniors Matt Jacob and Justin Taylor represented Pennsylvania in the Mid-East Championship in Ohio on Saturday in a meet against the top ten runners in six other states.  Jacob finished in 32nd place with a season best time of 15:59 while Taylor was 33rd in 16:00, also a season best.  The NA runners were the 4th and 5th runners scoring for the PA team.

ALL-STATE SECOND TEAM

Seniors Matt Jacob and Justin Taylor were chosen to the 2007 All-State Cross Country second team as announced by the PTFCA.  The Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association selected first and second team performers based on honors won, qualify and consistency of performance and head-to-head competition.

BOYS CAPTURE THIRD, GIRLS NINTH
IN PIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Senior Matt Jacob finished ninth and senior Justin Taylor 12th overall to lead the Tigers to a 3rd place finish in the PIAA Class Championships at the Parkview cross country course in Hershey.  North Penn won the title with 90 points with Coatesville second with 107 and NA close behind with 110.

For the boys, Jacob was given second place team points with Taylor finishing fifth among the runners from teams competing for the title.  Freshman Ryan Gil was 25th and junior Will Appman 33rd.

In girls' competiton, Emmas was first with 78 points, Northern York second with 147, and Unionville third with 154.  NA totaled 241 points to finish ninth.  Senior Jackie Sokukski was 20th with freshman Ali Greco finishing in 24th place among the team runners.

TIGERS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT WPIAL TITLE;
GIRLS FINISH THIRD

The Tiger boys' team won their third consecutive WPIAL championship at the Cooper's Lake course in Slippery Rock on Thursday afternoon.  Seniors Matt Jacob and Justin Taylor led the way as the finished in the 2nnd and 3rd places with NA placing four runners in the top 19.  Senior Dan O'Brien came in fourteenth and junior Will Appman 18th as NA posted 63 points to runnerup Seneca Valley's 96.  North Hills was third with 100 points.

The Lady Tigers came in third just behind Latrobe and Mt. Lebanon in a close race.  Freshman Ali Greco paced NA with a 19th place finish.  Freshman Sydney Micucci was 33rd and senior Jackie Sokulski 35th for the Lady Tigers.

Both teams have qualified for the PIAA Chamionships that will be held next Saturday in Hershey.

TIGER TEAMS SWEEP TRI-STATE COACHES INVITATIONAL

Both Tiger teams took first place in the last major competition before the WPIAL Championships next week as they won the Tri-State Coaches Invitational at Cooper's Lake in Slippery Rock on Thursday afternoon.  Senior Matt Jacob finished fourth to pace NA with senior Jake Holdcroft taking 15th and senior Justin Taylor 16th.  The Tigers scored 79 points to second place North Hills 101.

Senior Jackie Sokuski place sixth to lead the Lady Tigers with freshman Ali Greco in 15th and freshman Sydney Micucci in 17th place.  NA scored 110 points to 119 for second place Latrobe.

The Tigers teams will go for the WPIAL titles next Thursday at Cooper's Lake.  The boys' squad is the defending WPIAL champion while the Lady Tigers finished third last year.

GIRLS 5TH, BOYS 6TH AT CENTRAL CATHOLIC INVITATIONAL

Running without all their starters, the Tigers teams were able to finish in respectable positions in the Central Catholic Invitational at Schenley Oval on Saturday.  Junior Matt Robertson led NA with a 26th place finish as the Tiger boys finished sixth.

Junior Dana Preston came in 12th as the Lady Tigers were the fifth place finishers.  The Tiger teams will be in action again on Thursday, October 18, when they compete in the Tri-State Coaches Invitational at Cooper's Lake at Slippery Rock University.

TIGER TEAMS TAKE SECTION CHAMPIONSHIPS

Both Tiger teams won victories over Butler and Shaler at Butler on Tuesday afternoon to finish the regular season with records of 7-0 and the section titles.  The boys downed Butler, 23-33, and Shaler 15-50.  Leading the way for the Tigers was senior Matt Jacob who finished first.  Senior Justin Taylor came in third with junior Will Appman 5th and senior Jake Holdcroft sixth.

The Lady Tigers knocked off Butler, 15-50, and Shaler, 19-42, with NA runners finishing 1-2-4-5.  Senior Jackie Sokulski captured first with freshman Ali Greco in second.  Junior Dana Preston finished fourth with freshman Sydney Micucci right behind in fifth.

Next up for the Tiger teams is the Central Catholic Invitational on Saturday morning at Schenley Oval.  The starting time is scheduled for 10:00 am.

BOYS 2ND, GIRLS 3RD IN CARLISLE INVITATIONAL

Both Tiger teams placed well in the prestigious Carlisle Invitational at Carlisle High School on Saturday morning.  The Lady Tigers took second behind Northern York scoring 134 points to the winner's 106.  The boys' squad was third behind North Penn and Upper Dublin.

Leading the boys was senior Dan O'Brien with a 16th place in the points race with senior Justin Taylor 21st and junior Will Appman 27th.  Freshman Ali Greco led the Lady Tigers with a 15th while senior Jackie Sokulski was 18th and junior Dana Preston 24th.

The Tiger teams will return to section action on Tuesday when they travel to Butler to meet the Tornado and Shaler.  Meet time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

TIGER TEAMS DOWN NORTH HILLS
AND SENECA VALLEY

The Tiger teams notched two more section victories with wins over rival North Hills and Seneca Valley at the NAI course on Tuesday afternoon.  The boys' squad downed the Indians, 21-39, and the Raiders, 22-39.  The Lady Tigers prevailed over North Hills, 17-46, and Seneca Valley, 19-44.

Senior Matt Jacob finished second and senior Justin Taylor third to pace the boys to victory.  Junior Pat Morgan was 6th followed by senior Jake Holdcroft in 8th place.  Senior Jackie Sokulski captured first place to lead the Lady Tigers with junior Dana Preston 3rd and freshman Ali Greco 4th.  Freshman Sydney Micucci finished 6th and junior Katie Schmiech 7th for the winning Lady Tigers.

TIGER TEAMS SWEEP INAUGURAL HERSHEY INVITATIONAL

Both Tiger teams took first place in the Gold Division of the Inaugural Hershey Invitational at the Hershey Parkview course in Hershey.  NA defeated some of the top teams in the state in winning the meets.  Senior Matt Jacob led the boys with a 6th place finish while senior Jackie Sokulski paced the Lady Tigers with a 9th place.

The boys' squad won by a comfortable margin scoring 85 points to second place Hatboro-Horsham's 130.  In addition to Jacob's 6th place, senior Danny O'Brien came in 14th, junior Will Appman 16th, and junior Pat Morgan 20th.  The Lady Tigers edged second place Cardinal O'Hara, 101-103.  After Sokulski's 9th place, junior Dana Preston finished 11th, and freshman Ali Greco 15th.

The Tigers teams will be back in action on Tuesday when they host section rivals North Hills and Seneca Valley.  Meet time is scheduled for 3:30 pm at the NAI course.

TIGER TEAMS DOWN PINE-RICHLAND AND HAMPTON

Both Tiger teams were victorious over Pine-Richland and Hampton at Pine-Richland on Tuesday afternoon.  The boys defeated the Rams, 15-49, and the Talbots, 15-48.  The Tigers took the first six places on their way to the easy victory.  Leading the way for NA was senior Matt Jacob who took first.  Senior Jake Holdcroft captured second with senior Dan O'Brien third.  Rounding out the top six were juniors Will Appman, Pat Morgan, and Matt Robertson.

The Lady Tigers edged Pine-Richland, 25-33, and Hampton, 22-38.  Junior Dana Preston finished 2nd to pace NA with freshman Ali Greco coming in 4th.  Sophomore Lindsay Holdcoft captured 7th with senior Laura Ochs adding a 9th place to the NA total.

ROCK INVITATIONAL

Senior Justin Taylor led the Tigers to a second place finish at the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday morning at the Cooper's Lake Course at Slippery Rock University.  Seneca Valley won the title with 91 points to 123 for the Tigers.  Butler finished third.

Freshman Ryan Gil took 21st, junior Matt Robertson was 25th and junior Quinn Conley was 30th for the Tigers.  The Tiger teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Pine-Richland to meet the Rams and Hampton in section meets.  The scheduled starting time is set for 3:30 pm.

TIGER TEAMS OPEN SECTION SEASON WITH
VICTORIES OVER KNOCH

Both Tiger teams posted victories in the initial section meet of the season at the Intermediate High School on Tuesday afternoon.  The Lady Tigers downed the Lady Knights, 23-38, while the boys' knocked off the Knights, 19-42.

In the girls' meet, sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft led the way with a second place finish with freshman Ali Greco coming in third.  Seniors Merit O'Hare and Danielle Mostachetti came in fifth and sixth respectively for the winning Tigers.

In the boys' meet, it was a one-two-three finish for the Tigers in their victory.  Senior Justin Taylor was first, senior Matt Jacob second, and freshman Ryan Gil third as NA dominated the meet.  Senior Jackson Kernion added a sixth place finish for the Tigers.

The Tigers teams will travel to Slippery Rock on Saturday to compete in the Slippery Rock Invitational.  The starting time for the meet is set for 8:30 am.

Led by senior Matt Jacob's second place, the Tigers easily won the Red, White and Blue Classic at Schenley Park on Saturday morning.  Senior Dan O'Brien added a fifth place finish as NA scored 58 points to second place Mt. Lebanon's 106.  Junior Will Appman took 14th, junior Patrick Morgan 16th, and sophomore Eric Balaban 21st as the Tigers dominated the field.

For the Lady Tigers, senior Jackie Sokulski was 18th, junior Dana Preston 20th, and sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft 21st as NA totaled 127 points to finish just two points behind Latrobe. 

The Tiger teams will begin section play on Tuesday when they host the Knoch Knights.  Action is scheduled to get under way at 3:30 pm at the NAI course.

2007 WPIAL CROSS COUNTRY

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will once again compete in Class AAA of the WPIAL along with 48 other teams.  Section plaques will be awarded to the winner of each section based on the best section record.  Ties for first place will be declared co-champions and both will receive a plaque. 

Scoring in dual meets will be conventional.  The top seven finishers will be counted with five scoring and two to displace.

The WPIAL individual and team championships will be conducted at Coopers Lake (Slippery Rock, PA) on Thursday, October 26, 2007.  The PIAA championships will be conducted on Saturday, November 3, 2007.
