To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

After leading by two at halftime, the Lady Tigers saw Shaler rally in the third quarter and go on to a 53-48 victory at the Senior High gym on Friday night.  On Senior night, senior Rachel Divosevic led the Tigers with 21 points, including nine of ten from the foul line.  Melissa McQuade paced the Titans with 14 points.

The Lady Tigers jumped off to a good start early on two baskets by junior Kristen Beatty and a triple by junior Sarah Haas to take a 7-2 lead.  After sophomore Jackie Sauer made a pair of foul shots, Divosevic made it 9-4 with 3:22 remaining in the quarter.  Shaler scored the next six points on two free throws by McQuade and two field goals and a foul shot by senior Libby Soeder.  Divosevic hit a jumper as time was running out to make it an 11-11 game after one quarter of play.

Hoops by McQuade and junior Kristin Devlin gave the Titans a 15-11 lead before NA answered with four straight fouls shots, two by sophomore Maria Nolan and two by Divosevic to tie the game.  Sophomore Olivia DiNucci put Shaler ahead, but Nolan cut it to one with a foul shot at the 4:19 mark.  Sauer hit one of two from the line, but Divosevic hit a jumper to tie the game at 18-18.  Sauer gave Shaler the lead again, but Divosevic came back to score again to tie the game.  After junior Joci Delaney's free throw, senior Amanda Dice drained a long trey with 12 seconds left to gave the Lady Tigers a 23-21 halftime advantage.

Shaler dominated late in the third quarter to take the lead.  After McQuade tied the game, senior point guard Shelley Grenesko put Shaler ahead, 25-23.  Senior Lisa Gleason drove to the hoop, got fouled, and made one of two to cut the lead to one.  McQuade came back at the other end to score a conventional three-point play to push the margin to 28-24.  After Divosevic hit another jumper, Devlin dropped in a pair from the line to make it 30-26.  Nolan hit a baseline jumper to cut the lead to 30-28, but McQuade added another three-point play to push it to 33-28.  Divosevic made one of two from the line before Jill DiNucci scored from the paint to give Shaler a 35-29 lead with 1:24 remaining.  Nolan scored again, but DiNucci answered to keep the lead at six.  Divosevic hit a pair of free throws to cut the margin to 37-33 after three quarters of play.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers rallied to tie the score.  Gleason made a great individual play to cut the lead to two when she blocked a shot and then drove the length of the floor to score on a driving layup.  After Grenesko made one of two foul shots, Beatty dropped in three of four to tie the game at 38-38 with 5:53 remaining.  McQuade put Shaler back ahead, but freshman Jackie Lang answered to tie the game at 40-40.  After Sauer made one of two from the line, Divosevic hit a short jumper to put NA ahead, 42-41, with 4:59 left.  Seconds later, Sauer hit two from the stripe to push the Titans back on top.  Divosevic answered again to make it 44-43 in favor of NA.  Haas followed with two foul shots to give the Lady Tigers a 46-43 lead with 3:45 still on the clock.  Shaler then scored the final eight points of the game on foul shots to pull out the victory.  Jill DiNucci was perfect from the line, making six of six down the stretch.  Grenesko made two more foul shots as the Lady Tigers could not score.  Shaler held on for the 51-46 victory.

It was a physical contest for the entire game with a great effort by both teams.  In the end, turnovers and good foul shooting by Shaler were the difference.  On the night, the Titans made 23 of 27 from the line while NA was 18 of 23.  For her efforts on Senior Night, the North Allegheny Sports Network selected senior Rachel Divosevic as the Player of the Game.

With the loss, the NA section record dropped to 3-7, the overall mark to 9-9.  The Lady Tigers will host Chartiers Valley in a non-section game tonight at the Senior High gym.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The first-place Lady 'Canes from New Castle showed why they lead Section 3 as they defeated the Lady Tigers, 62-47, at the Senior High gym on Friday night.  New Castle jumped off to a 21-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back.  Sophomore Maria Nolan tallied 15 points to lead NA while senior forward Rachel Divosevic added 13.  Junior Ryenn Micaletti had 14 points to pace New Castle.

New Castle scored the first six points of the game as Micaletti, Kara Joseph and junior Jalessa Sams all hit two-point baskets.  After Nolan put back an NA miss, the Lady 'Canes scored the next 11 points to increase the margin to 17-2.  Divosevic hit a jumper to stop the run, but 6-0 sophomore Logan Hartman and senior Shirl Jones added baskets as New Castle took a commanding 21-4 lead after one quarter.

The Lady Tigers actually outscored New Castle, 43-41, in the remainder of the contest but could never cut the deficit to less than eleven points.  In the second quarter, Divosevic came alive scoring on a three-point play and adding another basket to cut the lead to 23-9.  After Micaletti drove for a deuce, freshman Jackie Lang scored to make it 25-11.  After Joseph drained a trey, junior Nina Glisan scored from under the hoop. Micaletti scored again before Divosevic dropped in her seventh point of the quarter to cut it to 30-15 with 1:21 remaining.  Sams hit a jumper in the paint, but Nolan answered.  New Castle took a 32-17 lead to the intermission.

Nolan opened the scoring in the third quarter, but the Lady 'Canes came back with a pair of hoops to increase the lead to 36-19.  Nolan dropped in a pair of foul shots before senior Niki Karatinos hit a long trey to push the margin to 39-21.  Junior Marissa Posteraro then answered with a trey, but Karatinos scored again to make it 41-24 with 4:24 remaining in the quarter.  NA then went on a 6-0 run behind a putback by sophomore Ginny Thistle and two hoops by Divosevic to cut the score to 41-30.  New Castle had the answer again with six straight points by Joseph and Sams to push the lead back to 47-30.  Junior Sarah Haas hit a three with ten seconds left to cut the lead to 47-33 after three quarters of play.

The Lady Tigers did not quit in the final period.  After Sams opened the scoring with a deuce, Lang drained a trey to cut the margin to 49-36 at the 6:57 mark.  After Sams hit a deuce and one of two from the line, Nolan scored the next five points to cut the lead to eleven at 52-41.  After Karatinos scored, freshman Dawn Murphy stole the ball at midcourt and made a driving layup to cut it to 54-43.  Baskets by Hartman and Sams pushed it back to 58-43.  Junior Kristen Beatty scored on a putback, but Sams came back with a hoop in the paint.  Nolan scored with four seconds remaining as New Castle went home with a 62-47 victory.

The first quarter did the Lady Tigers in as they could never get back in the game.  Every NA run was matched by a New Castle answer.  To their credit, the Lady Tigers continued to press and play hard, but the night belonged to the Lady 'Canes.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network selected Maria Nolan as the Player of the Game.

The loss dropped the NA section record to 2-6, the overall mark to 8-8.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Butler on Monday evening for a 7:30 pm section contest.  NA will be home again on Friday when they host Shaler.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 6:15 pm.

LADY TIGER DEFENSE STOPS NORTH HILLS, 43-24

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Lady Tigers used a smothering man-to-man defense to hold rival North Hills to just 24 points in a 43-24 victory at the Senior High gym on Friday night.  Sophomore forward Maria Nolan led the way with 18 points while senior forward Rachel Divosevic added 16.  Bethany Alabeck paced North Hills with 15 points.

Early in the first quarter, Nolan put the Lady Tigers ahead, 2-0, before Alabeck answered to tie the game at 2-2 at the 7:06 mark.  Freshman Jackie Lang dropped in a pair of foul shots but Alabeck scored again to make it 4-4.  Nolan's second hoop of the quarter put NA back on top, 6-4, but Alabeck was there again for the Indians to tie the game at 6-6.  Senior forward Lisa Gleason drove for a layup that put NA on top for good at 8-6 at the 3:27 mark of the quarter.  Divosevic hit a jumper and junior Kristen Beatty added a deuce to increase the margin to 12-6 before Ericka Slagel banked in a short jumper to cut it to 12-8 with 1:23 remaining.  Divosevic was able to score as time was running out to give the Lady Tigers a 14-8 advantage at the end of one quarter of play.

Scoring was at a premium in the second period.  After Divosevic scored to make it 16-8, Nolan added a free throw before Alabeck hit her fourth hoop of the first half to cut the margin to 17-10.  Nolan scored on a short banker, but Slagel answered with a pair of foul shots to make it 19-12.  Nolan continued to get open in the paint and made one of two free throws, but Alabeck came back with two from the line to keep North Hills close at 20-14.  Two foul shots by Nolan with just 1.6 remaining gave NA a 22-14 lead at the intermission.

Senior forward Katie Manjerovic hit a basket and two free throws in the first minute of the third quarter to bring North Hills to within four at 22-18.  It would be as close as the Indians would get for the remainder of the game.  The Lady Tigers went on a 13-3 run to close out the stanza.  Nolan hit a pair of foul shots and a jumper and Divosevic added a baseline jump shot to push the margin to 26-18 with 5:15 remaining.  After Alabeck hit a jump shot and Manjerovic dropped in one of two from the stripe, Divosevic and Nolan both scored, and Beatty converted a three-point play with a foul shot as the Tigers took a commanding 35-21 lead into the final period.

The Lady Tigers slowed the pace in the final period and turned up the defense.  Divosevic scored six straight points on two hoops and two free throws to give NA its biggest lead at 41-21 with 6:39 still on the clock.  After Alabeck drained a trey, North Hills would not score again.  Nolan added one final basket as the Lady Tigers picked up an important 43-24 section victory.

Defense was the key as the Lady Tigers held North Hills to just ten second half points, three in the last quarter.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network selected sophomore Maria Nolan as the Player of the Game.

The win improved the NA section record to 2-4 and kept them in the running for a playoff spot.  The overall Lady Tiger record improved to 8-6.  NA will travel to Shaler on Tuesday night to meet the Titans in a 6:00 pm section contest.  The Lady Tigers will return home on Friday to take on first-place New Castle in the first game of a girl/boy doubleheader.

DIVOSEVIC LEADS LADY TIGERS OVER
NORTH CATHOLIC, 68-64

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

Senior forward Rachel Divosevic scored a game high 28 points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 68-64 victory over North Catholic in the NA Holiday Tournament at the Senior High gym on Wednesday night.  Freshman Jackie Lang tallied 11 and junior Sarah Haas added 10 as NA won their third straight game.  Junior guard April Austin scored 22 to pace the Trojanettes, making 11 of 13 from the foul line.

The game started slowly with neither team able to score in the first minute and a half.  Sophomore Callie White put the Trojanettes on the board first with a pair of foul shots, but Divosevic answered from under the hoop to tie the game at 2-2.  After 6-0 sophomore Amy Longo made one of two from the line, sophomore Maria Nolan put NA on top for the first time, 4-3, at the 5:44 mark.  Austin scored her first hoop to regain the lead for NC before Divosevic came back to make it 6-5 NA.  Freshman Lauren Savulchak put North Catholic back ahead as the lead see sawed in the early going.  Two foul shots by Divosevic and another short jumper by the Tiger senior gave NA a 10-7 advantage with 2:34 remaining.  A basket by sophomore Erica Cottle and a foul shot by Kirby tied the game at 10-10 before senior Lisa Gleason drove for a hoop.  Junior Megan Hartwig scored on a put back before sophomore Erica Cottle dropped in a hoop just before the buzzer as the Lady Tigers took a 14-12 lead after one quarter.

The pace picked up in the second quarter although the scoring did not as both teams increased the defensive pressure.  After Austin hit one of two from the line, Divosevic hit a turnaround jump shot to make it 16-13.  Two more foul shots by Austin cut it to one, but Lang came back with a jump shot to boost the margin to 18-15.  Lang scored again to give NA a five-point lead with 3:32 left in the half, but hoops by Austin and Savulchak cut the lead to one.  Haas then hit her first trey of the game but Austin drove to the hoop for two as the score went to 23-21.  Divosevic scored two quick baskets to push the lead to six with 1:02 on the second quarter clock.  Two foul shots by junior Kristen Beatty gave NA their biggest lead at 29-21 before foul shots by Austin and Savulchak cut the lead to 29-24 at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lady Tigers get into serious foul trouble as the first ten fouls of the second half were called on NA.  The Trojanettes took advantage of the opportunity, making 12 of 14 from the line during the period.  After Beatty scored just 40 seconds into the quarter, Longo made two foul shots to cut the margin to 31-26.  After Longo scored on a put back, Divosevic hit a short jumper, but Savulchak's two free throws cut the lead to 33-30.  Lang hit a jump shot from the foul line, but the Trojanettes came back with two foul shots by Austin and a layup by White to cut the margin to one.  Divosevic scored again but Longo answered to keep the lead to one.  Haas hit a baseline jumper and Divosevic continued her domination in the paint as she scored again to extend the lead to 41-36.  But NC was not finished at the foul line as they made four straight to cut the lead to 41-40.  Gleason was able to put back her missed layup, but Cottle hit two more foul shot to keep it a one-point game.  Gleason was fouled and made the first two NA foul shots of the period to give NA a 45-42 advantage with just 37.5 seconds left in the quarter.  White then made two good defensive plays to give the Trojanettes the lead.  After White stole the ball and scored a layup, she was fouled and made two from the line to put NC ahead 46-45.  Haas had the answer for NA, however, as she hit a long triple just before the buzzer to give the Lady Tigers a two-point lead going into the final quarter.

The game remained close for the entire final period with the foul situation evening up somewhat.  Nolan hit a jumper fourteen seconds into the quarter to push the lead to four, but Savulchak scored from the left side to make it 50-48.  After Haas score on a baseline jumper, Austin answered with a three from the left corner to cut the margin to 52-51.  Divosevic came back to score again in the paint, but Savulchak could make only one of two from the stripe as NA led, 54-52.  Divosevic was fouled and made two from the line, but NC came back again with Kirby scoring to cut the lead to two.  Lang put the Tigers up by four again with a jumper, but the Trojanettes finally came all the way back to tie the score at 58 on a basket by freshman Ashley Bellovich and a driving runner by Austin with 3:06 remaining.

The pace of the game slowed as both teams ran a patient offense down the stretch looking for good shots.  Lang was fouled under the basket and made both shots to put NA up, 60-58, with 2:25 left.  Austin made only one of two to cut the lead to one with 2:19 on the clock.  Divosevic answered with a short jumper, but Austin came back with a driving layup and foul shot to tie the game at 62 with 1:45 left.  Nolan got loose in the paint and dropped in a key hoop with 1:27 left to put NA on top, 64-62.  After a NC miss, Lang made one of two from the line to make it 65-62 with 23.5 remaining.  Austin was fouled on a baseline drive and made them both to cut the lead to one with 16 seconds left.  Beatty was fouled immediately and made one of two to give the Lady Tigers a two-point lead with 15.1 on the clock.  After North Catholic almost lost the ball but retained possession on a jump ball possession arrow, the Trojanettes called time out with seven seconds left.  Austin missed a short jumper that Divosevic rebounded with 2.2 left.  The Tiger senior secured the victory with two from the line as the Lady Tigers held on for a tough 68-64 win.

It was a good victory for the Lady Tigers over the #1 ranked AAA team.  NA had seven more field goals than NC but the Trojanettes made 27 of 37 from the line to stay in the game.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network selected Rachel Divosevic, who added 10 rebounds to her 28 points in leading NA.  With the win, the Lady Tigers claimed the championship of the NA Holiday Tournament.  The victory was the third straight for NA and improved their overall record to 6-4.  The Lady Tigers will return to Section 3 action on Monday night when they travel to Seneca Valley for a 7:30 pm contest.
