LADY TIGERS DOWN HEMPFIELD, 3-0, IN RAIN-SHORTENED MATCH Rain halted play before all matches were completed, but the Lady Tigers were able to win three matches and take a 3-0 victory at Hempfield on Friday afternoon. Freshman Kelly Whelan led the way with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory at number one singles. Sophomore Stephanie Smyers was ahead, 6-1, 5-1 when the rains came. The number three singles match was rained out. In doubles play, the number team of junior Jen Larimore and Amanda Maiello took a 6-0, 6-0 vicotry over the Hempfield team of Thompson and Boler. At #2 doubles, senior Stephanie Keiser and junior Cody McCoy downed the Spartan team of Albert and Calabrese, 6-2, 6-2. With the win, the NA overall record improved to 7-1 on the season. The Lady Tigers will host Hampton this afternoon at the Senior High courts with match time set for 3:30 pm. JV UPDATE: The JV team defeated Hempfield, 4-1, to improve the record to 6-1 on the season. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS RESUME WINNING WAYS WITH 5-0 BLANKING OF NORTH HILLS After a tough loss to Pine-Richland on Monday, the Lady Tigers rebounded with a 5-0 win over rival North Hills at North Hills on Wednesday afternoon. NA kept the Indians from winning a set on the way to the victory. In singles play, freshman Kelly Whelan defeated Winkler of North Hills, 6-2, 6-4, at #1. Sophomore Stephanie Smyers and freshman Lisha Gu also won their matches in straight sets at #2 and #3. In doubles play, the #1 Tiger team of junior Jen Larimore and sophomore Amanda Maiello downed the team of Held and Waters, 6-2 and 6-3. At the second doubles match, senior Stephanie Keiser teamed up with junior Cody McCoy to defeat the NH duo of Buresh and Gambino, 6-0 and 6-3. With the win, the NA section record improved to 6-1 after the first half of play. The Lady Tigers will travel to Hempfield on Friday afternoon to meet the Spartans in a 3:30 pm non-section contest. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PINE-RICHLAND ENDS NA WINNING STREAK The Pine-Richland Rams won all three singles matches to end the NA winning streak at five with a 3-2 victory at the Senior High courts on Monday afternoon. Freshman Kelly Whelan dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Sarah Lynch at #1 singles. At #3, senior Stephanie Keiser was defeated by Shelby Merilli, 6-2, 4-6, and 6-1 while Olivia Heim defeated sophomore Stephanie Smyers, 6-3 and 6-2. In doubles play, the Lady Tiger teams were victorious. At #1 doubles, junior Jen Larimore and sophomore Amanda Maiello shut out the top Ram team of Kristen Kunkle and Amy O'Donnell, 6-0, 6-0. In the second doubles match, junior Cody McCoy and freshman Lisha Gu teamed up to knock off Meghan Marks and Sam Patrick, 7-5 and 6-4. The Lady Tigers will host Shady Side Academy this afternoon at the Senior High Courts. The non-section match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm. JV UPDATE: Pine-Richland edged NA, 3-2, to hand the Junior Varsity team their first loss of the season. The NA record is now 4-1. MATCH SUMMARY - VARSITY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS CONTINUE STREAK WITH The Lady Tigers won a 5-0 decision at Butler on Thursday afternoon to increase their winning streak to five matches and improved their section record to 5-0. Once again, the Lady Tigers did not lose a set in defeating the Tornado. In singles play, once again freshman Kelly Whelan was victorious at #1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Carolyn Shetter. At #2 singles, sophomore Stephanie Smyers downed Madison Kerr, 6-3 and 6-1, while senior Stephanie Keiser won at #3 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Heather Santa. In doubles play, the NA teams both won straight set victories. At #1 doubles, junior Jen Larimore and sophomore Amanda Maiello won by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 while the #2 team of junior Cody McCoy and freshman Lisha Gu also picked up a win by scores of 6-2 and 6-0. The Lady Tigers will be back in action again on Monday afternoon when they host Pine-Richland in a 3:30 pm section match. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGER WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN The Lady Tigers remained unbeaten with a 5-0 victory at Mars on Tuesday afternoon. Leading the straight set victory were freshman Kelly Whelan, sophomore Stephanie Smyers and senior Stephanie Keiser who captured the singles matches in straight sets. In doubles play, the team of junior Jen Larimore and sophomore Amanda Maiello was once again victorious, this time picking up a 6-0, 6-0 victory over the #1 Mars team of Barnes and Smail. At #2 doubles, juniors Cody McCoy and Lisa Gorski won in two sets with 6-1 victories. The win kept NA unbeaten and improved the section record to 4-0 on the season. The Lady Tigers will be back in action again tomorrow afternoon when they host Butler in a section match. The starting time at the Senior High courts is set for 3:30 pm. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS SHUT OUT SENECA VALLEY, 5-0, TO REMAIN UNBEATEN The Lady Tigers made it three in a row with a 5-0 victory at Seneca Valley on Thursday afternoon. Once again, NA won with straight set victories in all matches. In singles, freshman Kelly Whelan took a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #1 to pace the Lady Tigers. Also winning in singles play were sophomore Stephanie Smyers at #2 and Lisa Gorski at #3. Both doubles teams won impressive victories. The #1 team of Jen Larimore and Amanda Maiello won 6-1 and 6-1 scores. At #2 doubles, junior Cody McCoy joined senior Stephanie Keiser to defeat the Raider team of Deleo and Nelson, 6-0, 6-2. The Lady Tigers will be back in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Mars to meet the Planets in a section contest. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 pm. JV NOTES: The Junior Varsity team remained unbeaten also with a 3-2 victory over Seneca Valley. The JVs will host Mars on Tuesday afternoon at the Senior High court beginning at 3:30 pm. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS DOWN KNOCH, 5-0, FOR SECOND WIN The Lady Tigers shut down the Knoch Knights, 5-0, at the Senior High courts on Wednesday afternoon. NA won all five matches in straight sets to earn their second victory without a loss. In singles play, freshman Kelly Whelan, sophomore Stephanie Smyers and senior Stephanie Keiser were victorious to pace NA. In doubles play, junior Jen Larimore and sophomore Amanda Maiello teamed up to win at #1 while juniors Cody McCoy and Lisa Gorski once again were victorious in the number two doubles position. The Lady Tigers will travel to Seneca Valley this afternoon to meet the Raiders in a section match. The scheduled starting time is set for 3:30 pm. MATCH SUMMARIES - VARSITY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * LADY TIGERS BLANK HAMPTON, 5-0, The Lady Tigers opened the 2007 section season with a 5-0 blanking of Hampton at Hampton Community Park on Monday afternoon. NA did not lose a set in posting their first section victory. In #1 singles play, freshman Kelly Whelan downed Jen Arnold, 6-0, 6-0, to pace NA. Sophomore Stephanie Smyers and senior Stephanie Keiser both posted straight set victories. In doubles play, the #1 team of junior Jen Larimore and sophomore Amanda Maiello took a 6-0, 6-1 victory over the Talbot team of Gorcsan and Quigley. At #2 doubles, juniors Cody McCoy and Lisa Gorski also captured a straight set victory. The Lady Tigers will continue section play tomorrow afternoon when they host Knoch at the Senior High courts.
