The Raiders scored what would be the game winner with 2:20 remaining in the first period with Tyler Mesisca scoring on a breakaway to give SV the 1-0 lead.  Seneca increased the lead to 2-0 early in the second period when Sean Sokolowski scored on an assist from Sam Jarrett at the 13:05 mark.

The Tigers had several power play chances in the second period.  Tayler Wagner was sent off for cross checking at the 10:24 mark and Sean Sokolowski was called for tripping with 9:07 left to give NA a two-man advantage.  The Raiders were able to kill of the penalties and keep the 2-0 lead.  Later in the period, the Tigers junior defenseman Eric Barger drew a roughing call but NA killed the penalty without further scoring.  NA had another two-man advantage late in the period that carried over into the third period, but the Raiders successfully kept the Tigers off the board.  Neither team scored in the third period as Seneca Valley went on to the 2-0 victory.

TIGERS TOP RIVAL NORTH HILLS, 5-2

Photo Gallery

The Tigers picked up their second victory of the season with a 5-2 victory over North Hills on Friday night at Bladerunners in Warrendale.  NA built a 4-0 lead after one period and held off the Indians the rest of the way to earn the victory.  Five different players scored for NA as the Tigers outshot the Indians, 45-19, in the game.

Early in the first period, North Hills had a chance after an NA turnover but senior goalie Lindsay Holdcroft made the save.  At the 2:00 minute mark, senior forward Andrew Siess stole the pick in the neutral zone, got around the NH defense, and scored to give NA a 1-0 lead.  Less than a minute later, junior forward Ryan Worsena scored from in front of the goal with assists going to senior forward Jordan Beck and junior defenseman Ryan Stupy.  The Tigers continued to pressure the Indian goal with freshman Joe Griffin getting several good chances.  At the 3:54 mark, Stupy sent in a hard shot from the point that was deflected into the net by junior forward Vince Lomupo to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage.  At this point, North Hills took a time out.  The Indians came back with 9:21 left on a shot by Christian Scott then went over Holdcroft's glove hand but missed the net.  With 8:23 left, Harper set up sophomore forward Josh King in front of the net but his shot went high over the goal.  With 8:21 left, senior forward James Harper was called for goallie interference giving the Indians a power play.  Holdcroft made a good save on a hard shot by the Indians near the end of the power play to keep NA on top by the 3-0 score.  With 5:48 remaining, the Tigers scored again King made it 4-0 with assists to senior defenseman Ryan Mistick and Harper.  With 5:11 remaining, the Indians' John Praski was sent off for tripping.  NA had several good opportunities on the power as Barger, Kelly and Worsena all had shots stopped by the NH goalie.  With 2:30 left, Holdcroft was forced to make a pad save on a shot by Connor Nicholas.  With 37 seconds left, Griffin's hard shot was stopped as the period ended with NA holding the commanding 4-0 advantage.

Early in the second period, the Tigers almost scored again.  Senior defenseman Matt Ogle sent in Worsena whose scoring chance was stopped by the Indian goalie.   At the 2:59 mark, Griffin sent a backhand pass to an open sophomore forward Jake Hubert who scored to make it a 5-0 NA lead.  After the Indians were called for hooking at the 3:08 mark, Stupy was sent to the box also for hooking to even the sides at four each.  Neither team could score as NA continued to lead by five goals.  With 8:42 left, Ritchey was called for hooking, but senior captain and defenseman Kevin Kelly evened things when he was sent off for tripping with 7:33 remaining.  With 7:26 left in the period, sophomore goalie Matt Goda came in to replace Holdcroft.  Less than a minute later, Worsena was stopped on a breakaway.  With 5:06 left, the Indians were called for roughing, but again Kelly evened things as he was sent off for interference.  The penalties continued with NH called for hooking with 3:55 left, and Beck also for hooking six seconds later.  With 3:32 left, Siess had a chance with a high shot that was stopped by the blocker of the NH goalie.  With 3:13 remaining, the Indians got on the board when Everett Lederer scored on an assist by Ritchey.  With 1:53 remaining, coincidental penalties were called on NH and Stupy.  With 26 seconds left, Worsena had another good chance but was stopped with Siess's rebound also saved.  The period ended the Tigers holding the 5-1 lead.  In the period, NA outshot NH, 18-3.

Early in the third period, Ogle was sent to the box.  Goda was forced to make a tough save late in the penalty to keep the 5-1 NA lead.  At the 4:46 mark, the Indians banged one off the post.  With 9:41 remaining, Harper sent a pass from the corner to senior forward Keith Hoover who was stopped again by the NH goalie.  The Indians' Benjamin Grom was called for interference with 5:42 remaining but the Tigers could not score.  The Indians came back with a pair of chances with Goda there to make the saves on both attempts.  With 2:51 remaining, coincidental minors again sent Stupy off with a NH player.  Six seconds later, Griffin was called for interference.  The Indians were able to convert getting a power play goal with 1:38 remaining to cut the NA lead to 5-2.  The Tigers had one last chance to score when Harper got free on a breakaway.  The shot was stopped and a trip was called on the Indians.  Time ran out with no further scoring as the Tigers were able to defeat the Indians by the 5-2 score.

Kudos to the NA student body who showed up in force to support the Tigers in the battle against their neighborhood rivals.  With the win, NA improved to 2-5-3 on the season.  The two rivals will meet again on Monday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center.  Game time is scheduled for 9:15 pm.

UPPER ST. CLAIR HOLDS OFF TIGERS, 3-2

To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Tigers battled back twice from a one-goal deficit but could not answer a third Upper St. Clair goal as the Panthers held on for a 3-2 victory at Bladerunners in Warrendale on Friday night.  Junior defenseman Eric Barger and sophomore defenseman Dalton Landman scored the NA goals with senior captain and defenseman Kevin Kelly picking up a pair of assists.

The Panthers came close early in the period as a pass from James Kline to C.J. Murray was just too far with NA senior goalie Greg Borza grabbing the puck just in time.  Borza was playing in place of the injured senior goalie Lindsay Holdcroft.  Senior forward Andrew Siess answered at the 4:00 minute mark with a shot that went wide of the USC net.  Less than a minute later, sophomore forward Jake Hubert hit the cross bar with a  hard shot as the game remained scoreless.  USC's Justin Selep had a chance from the right circle at the 5:17 mark but Borza made the save.  Kline was sent off for slashing with 9:43 left.  The Tigers were unable to put together much on the power play and with four seconds remaining the Panthers scored a shorthanded goal with Murray scoring from the left side after taking a pass from Selep.  The Tigers had several scoring chances with senior forward James Harper missing wide left and Hubert's blast from the point being stopped by USC goalie Michael Stein.  With 3:25 remaining, Kline was called for tripping.  It took NA just 11 seconds to make the Panthers pay.  Kelly drove a hard shot from just inside the blue line with Barger sending the rebound into the net to tie the game at 1-1 with 3:14 left in the period.  A minute later, Siess had a shot blocked in front of the net and Harper sent another attempt wide of the Panther goal.  With 2:18 remaining, senior defenseman Tyler Wright was called for tripping and Michael Segerdahl for slashing.  Neither team had a serious scoring attempt down the stretch as the period ended with the game tied at 1-1.

The Panthers came out strong early in the second period with Selep missing wide of the goal just 20 seconds into the period.  Kline was able to put the Panthers on top as he tucked the puck just inside the left post at the 37 second mark as USC took a 2-1 lead.  The Panthers' Sam Mendelson had another chance at the 2:543 mark but Borza made the stop.  A minute later, it appeared that NA had tied the game but the goal was waived off.  The Panthers continued to apply pressure with Kline getting a pair of scoring chances at the 4:00 minute mark.  A minute later, Borza made a good save on a shot by Rob Harbison to keep the Tigers within a goal.  With 9:54 remaining, NA got the equalizer.  Kelly sent the puck deep into USC territory where junior forward Ryan Worsena hustled to gain possession of the puck.  Worsena dropped off a pass to a trailing Landman who beat Stein to tie the game at 2-2.  The goal energized the Tigers who had several scoring chances in the ensuing minutes.  Siess was stopped by Stein with 7:20 left, and Kelly drove a hard shot from the point wide of the goal a minute later.  The Panthers came back with a furious series of shots at the NA net with Borza making four good saves, two on Selep with six minutes left in the period.  With 5:53 remaining, Harbison was sent off for cross checking.  On the power play, the Tigers came close again with freshman Joe Griffin sending a hard shot off the post.  With 3:25 left, junior forward John Mammay had a chance but his shot went over the USC net.  With 3:52 left, Murray was able to drove home a rebound of a shot by Kline to put the Panthers ahead again, 3-2.  Landman had a pair of chances with less than three minutes left, but Stein made the saves.  With 2:15 remaining, junior forward Vince Lomupo came off the NA bench and drove a hard shot from the left side that forced Stein to make a tough save.  With 1:05 remaining, Worsena hit the post yet again as the Tigers continued to pressure the USC goal.  Kelly was called for interference with 26 seconds left, but the Panthers did not score in the remaining time and took a 3-2 advantage into the third period.

With time still remaining on the USC power play, Kline forced Borza to make a good save early in the third period.  Griffin came back shorthanded with a chance that was stopped by Stein.  Borza was forced to cover up the puck after a scramble in front of the NA net just after the penalty expired.  At the 2:56 mark, the Panthers' John Columbus saw his hard shot stopped by Borza.  Mammay came back for the Tigers with a chance less than a minute later, but Stein again made the save.  At the 4:12 mark, senior defenseman Ryan Mistick drove a hard shot that was deflected over the goal and out of play as the Tigers pressed for the equalizer.  A minute later, Kelly set up Siess for a good scoring chance but Stein continued to stymie the Tigers as he made yet another tough save.  With 8:33 left, Harper came in from the left side but could not beat Stein.  The Tigers continued to get chances with Hubert drilling a shot off the helmet of Stein with the puck caroming all the way to the ceiling and out of play with 7:38 left.  Less than a minute later, Kline had a chance for the  Panthers but Borza was there to make the stop to keep the Tigers within one.  With 4:55 left, Stein robbed Siess with a spectacular glove hand save to keep USC on top.  With 5:04 left, Mitchell Lewis of the Panthers was sent to the box giving NA a power play with a chance to tie the game.  A minute later, Kelly was called for interference with the teams now playing at four aside.  USC got a brief power play with Lewis came out of the box, and Borza had to make another good save late.  Worsena had one last chance with seven seconds left but his shot went wide of the goal as USC escaped with a 3-2 victory.

It was another good effort by the Tigers who came up short in the one-goal loss.  NA had the territorial edge in the game and the combination of Stein in goal and the goal posts kept NA from picking up a victory.  For his efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Ryan Worsena as the Player of the Game.  The loss dropped the NA record to 1-5-3 in PIHL play.  The Tigers will host rival North Hills on Friday night at Bladerunners as league play continues.  Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.

TIGERS, PENN-TRAFFORD BATTLE TO 2-2 TIE

The Penn-Trafford Warriors scored a short handed goal with just four seconds remaining to salvage a 2-2 tie with  the Tigers on Monday night at the Center Ice Arena in Delmont.  Sophomore defenseman Dalton Landman and senior forward Jordan Beck scored the NA goals.  Senior goalie Lindsay Holdcroft stopped 21 of 23 P-T shots to preserve the point in the league standings.

NA's senior Kevin Kelly was sent off for slashing just 55 seconds into the game, but the Tigers killed off the penalty.  Later in the period, Landman gave NA a 1-0 lead on an assist from senior forward Andrew Siess.  Late in the period, senior defenseman Ryan Mistick was called for hooking with 3:30 left, but again the NA defense held off the Warrior power play.  NA held a 1-0 lead after one period.

The Tigers took a pair of penalties in the second period and P-T made them pay on the second.  With Landman in the box with 5:12 left, P-T's Jeff Christ tied the game with a power play goal with 4:19 remaining.  The Warriors' Jared Ingersoll was sent to the box for trippling with 2:59 remaining, but the power play ended when Kelly was called for tripping with 2:08 left.  With the teams playing at four aside, Beck gave NA the lead on assists from Siess and junior defenseman Eric Barger.  After two periods, the Tigers held a 2-1 advantage.

The Tigers held off P-T for most of the third period.  With 1:29 left, P-T's Vincent Marklinski was called with interference.  With just four seconds on the clock, Daniel Maier got the tying goal shorthanded to send the game into overtime.  In the overtime period, neither team scored.  The Warriors had a late power play when junior forward John Mammay was sent to the box with just 1:03 left. P-T was unable to score on the power play and time ran out in the overtime with the game ending in a 2-2 tie.  Penn-Trafford outshot NA, 23-21, in the game.

The tie was the third of the season for NA with the season record in PIHL play now standing at 1-4-3.  The Tigers will host Upper St. Clair next Friday (December 4) at Bladerunners in Warrendale.  The North Allegheny Sports Network will be there to broadcast the game LIVE on the internet beginning with the pre-game show at 5:45 pm.  Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
