The Lady Tigers made short work of the visiting New Castle Red Hurricanes with a 3-0 victory at the Senior High gym on Thursday afternoon.  NA won the first game, 25-6, and followed with a pair of 25-8 wins in games two and three.

in game one, the Lady Tigers wasted no time in jumping off to a 6-1 advantage.  Senior MB Maria Nolan starting things with a blast down the middle with junior OH Jackie Lang picking up a pair of kills during the run.  After senior captain Tasia Wise scored on a block to cut the lead to 6-2, senior MB Laura Sudo went off the NC blockers and adding another kill down the line as the NA lead went to 9-4.  Junior OH Liz Overbaugh came off the bench to serve a pair of aces and junior MB Gretta Freyermuth added a kill as NA increased the margin to 12-4.  After the Lady Tigers were called for a net violation, NA closed out the game with a 13-1 run.  After Sudo scored off a slide, Nolan picked up another kill to push the margin to 16-5.  Junior Jazelle Dennis hit the back line for the 'Canes last point of the game before Nolan answered again.  Senior setter Caitlin Decker served the last eight points of the game, including four straight aces with junior OH Kate Munson ending the contest with a kill that gave NA a 25-6 win in game one.

In game two, Coach Dan Schall started a number of players off the NA bench.   Once again, the Lady Tigers quickly took the lead building a 10-1 advantage.  With Decker still serving, NA took a 3-1 lead with a serving ace and a kill by Munson.  After senior JaVonna Moss scored on a kill, Munson answered.  With senior Liz Hoffman serving, NA scored the next six points on a cross-court kill by junior MB Kaleigh Tony, two kills by Munson and three NC hitting errors.  A kill by Wise and an NA hitting error cut the margin to 10-3.  A cross court kill by Overbaugh started another NA run of 7-3 with Overbaugh and junior MB Kendra Calhoun earning kills.  With NA ahead, 17-6, Tony went down the line and NC committed two more hitting errors to put the score at 19-8.  Hoffman then served six straight points, including two aces,  to end the match with kills by sophomore DS Kelsey Davies, Tony, and Overbaugh finishing off the 'Canes, 25-8, in game two.

In game three, New Castle was able to take their first lead of the match when Wise rolled a ball over the net to make it 4-3.  The Lady Tigers then took control.  Senior DS Jackie Fitzgerald served four straights points including an ace with Tony picking up a kill to put NA back on top, 8-4.  Sophomore OH Leanne Haus scored on a kill and then went back to serve three straight points including a pair of aces.  After New Castle cut the lead to 12-7, Overbaugh went down the line for a point and give the serve to junior DS Maura Jeffries.  The Tiger junior followed with ten straight points, including an ace, the lead went to 23-7.  During the run, Overbaugh picked up a pair of kills and Calhoun added a block.  After La Tricia Brown cut the margin to 23-8, Davies scored on a left-handed tip.  The match ended with New Castle committing a hitting error as the Lady Tigers won game three, 25-8, and the match, three games to none.

It was a dominating performance by the Lady Tigers against an opponent that is just in their second year of varsity competition.  Coach Schall was able to utilize most of his bench players as a number of the NA squad had a hand in the victory.  For her performance both in serving and hitting, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Liz Overbaugh as the Player of the Match.

With the win, NA improved their section record to 3-0, the overall mark to 5-0.  The Lady Tigers will host the NA Tournament tomorrow that will include a visiting team from China.  Action is scheduled to get under way at 9:00 am.
