VARSITY/JV INLINE HOCKEY NORWIN EDGES TIGERS, 6-5 The Norwin Knights broke a 5-5 tie with a third period goal and went on to defeat the Tigers, 6-5, at the Hot Shots Sports Arena on Sunday afternoon. Five different Tigers scored goals with Steve Leibhart tallying a goal and two assists to pace NA. After Joe Makula scored an unassisted goal early in the first period, Dan Gaertner answered for the Tigers to tie the game at 1-1. NA scored the next two goals with Steve Leibhart scoring unassisted at the 4:26 mark and Brian Carothers with just 22 seconds remaining. The Tigers took a 3-1 advantage into the second period. The Knights struck early in the second period to tie the game. Justin Fitz and Adam Thomas scored in the first minute of the period with T.C. Javor picking up assists on both goals. Brian Greco scored less than a minute later to put NA back on top, 4-3, with 13:10 still remaining in the period. Midway through the period, Brian Lutton tied the game on an assist from Makula. With 3:55 remaining in the period, Javor tallied an unassisted goal to give Norwin a 5-4 lead after two periods. The Tigers came back early as John Gillespie scored unassisted to tie the game at 5-5 just 30 seconds into the period. A minute later, Javor scored his second goal of the game to put Norwin back on top, 6-5. The goal proved to be the game winner as the Tigers were unable to score for the remainder of the game. With the loss, the NA league record fell to 6-8-0 good for 6th place in the standings. The Tigers will face Greensburg Salem on Sunday evening at Bladerunners in Harmarville. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS EDGE AVONWORTH, 6-5 Led by senior Dan Gaertner's three goals, the Tigers defeated Avonworth, 6-5, on Sunday morning at the RMU-Island Sports Center. Bryan Greco, Steve Leibhart and Dan Leibhart also scored for the winning Tigers with Dan Leibhart posting a pair of assists. Eli Jackson had two goals and three assists to pace Avonworth. T.J. Kimble was in goal for the Tigers. With the win, the Tigers improved the record to 6-7 in the PIRHL standings.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS SPLIT PAIR AS LEAGUE PLAY RESUMES The Tigers broke a long losing streak with a 13-5 victory over Greensburg Salem at Bladerunners in Harmarville on Sunday afternoon. Bryan Greco and Dylan Rohar scored four goals each to pace the NA attack. Danny Gaertner added a pair of goals while C.J. Cooper, John Gillespie and Steve Leibhart also scored for NA. In the second game, Seneca Valley downed the Tigers, 9-6. Rohar scored more goals as the Tigers came up just a little short against the first place Raiders. Dan Gaertner and Bryan Greco scored the other NA goals. Nick Bradley was in goal for the Tigers in both games. With the split, the NA record stands at 4-7 on the season. The Tigers will be back in action again on Sunday morning when they meet Avonworth at the RMU-Island Sports Center. Game time is set for 9:45 am.

SENECA VALLEY - 9 NORTH ALLEGHENY - 6
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * HAMPTON TOPS TIGERS, 6-4 The Tigers lost their sixth straight game last Sunday when they dropped a 6-4 decision to the Hampton Talbots. Scoring for NA were Bryan Greco with a pair of goals, senior Dan Gaertner with a goal and an assist, and Steve Leibhart with a goal and an assist. Hampton was led by Alex Mueller who recorded a hat trick and added two assists. Also scoring for the Talbots were Ethan Mahaffey, Evan Malone and Alex Young. With the loss, the NA record fell to 3-6 on the year. The Tigers were scheduled to play Avonworth on Saturday. No results were reported to the North Allegheny Sports Network. NA will be back in action after the winter break with a pair of games on Sunday, January 7. The Tigers will face Greensburg Salem at 1:00 pm and Seneca Valley at 3:00 pm. Both games are scheduled to be played at Bladerunners in Harmarville. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BETHEL PARK DOWNS TIGERS AGAIN, 7-2 The Tigers dropped their second straight game to Bethel Park, 7-2, on Saturday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center. Dylan Rohar and Tom Gillespie scored the Tiger goals as NA lost their fifth consecutive contest. The Blackhawks took an early lead when Tyler Trocano scored on a power play just 1:27 into the game. Bethel made it 2-0 on a goal by R.J. Fedzen at the 5:05 mark. The Tigers came back to cut the lead in half when Rohar tallied an unassisted goal with 3:57 remaining. Nick Brown answered for Bethel with 1:04 left on the first period clock to give the Blackhawks a 3-1 advantage after one period. Brown got his second goal early in the second period to give Bethel a 4-1 lead 40 seconds into the stanza. Brown notched his third for the hat trick with just 45 seconds remaining as Bethel Park took a commanding 5-1 lead into the final period. Early in the third period, Tom Gillespie scored on an assist from John Gillespie to cut the margin to 5-2 just 30 seconds into the period. NA was unable to score again as Brown added his fourth goal at the 6:00 minute mark, and Matt Carroll put the finishing touch on a 7-2 Bethel victory with a goal with only five seconds remaining. With the loss, the NA record fell to 3-5 in PIRHL play. The Tigers will be back in action again on Sunday afternoon against Hampton. Game time at Bladerunners in Harmarville is scheduled for 12 noon.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * SENECA VALLEY EDGES TIGERS, 5-3 The Seneca Valley Raiders scored three times in the third period to defeat the Tigers, 5-3, at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday evening. Bryan Greco scored twice for NA with Dylan Rohar adding a goal and an assist. After a scoreless first period, Cory Kramer put the Raiders on top, 1-0, on an assist from Sean Nelson at the 2:44 mark. Later in the period, Rohar tallied an unassisted goal to tie the game, 1-1, with 5:40 remaining in the period. Nelson gave SV a 2-1 advantage with a power play goal with just 50 seconds remaining in the stanza. The Raiders took a one-goal lead into the final period. The Tigers tied the game early in the period when Greco scored on an assist from Rohar with just 36 seconds gone. Kramer came back to score his second goal thirty-seconds later to put the Raiders back on top, 3-2. A goal by Tanner Soller made it 4-2 with 10:41 remaining in the game. Greco scored his second goal at the 8:45 mark on a power play to bring the Tigers to within one at 4-3. Jason Handerhan scored an unassisted goal with just 50 seconds left to clinch the victory for the Raiders. Seneca Valley took home a 5-3 decision. The loss dropped the NA record to 3-4 in PIRHL play. The Tigers will meet Bethel Park on Saturday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center with game time scheduled for 8:30 pm.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * BETHEL PARK BEATS TIGERS, 10-3 The Bethel Park Blackhawks defeated the Tigers, 10-3, in a PIRHL contest at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday night. Dylan Rohar, C.J. Cooper, and Dan Gaertner scored the NA goals. Matt Carroll and Tyler Trocano had three goals each to pace Bethel. The Blackhawks started early in the first period when Nick Brown scored a power play goal just 40 seconds into the game. Tyler Trocano made it 2-0 at the 11:28 mark before Rohar came back on an assist from Gaertner to cut the margin to 2-1 with 7:43 remaining in the period. Trocano scored his second goal at the 5:43 mark to give Bethel Park a 3-1 advantage after one period. The second period was all Bethel Park as they scored five unanswered goals. Eddie Kessler started the scoring 2:15 into the period to extend the margin to 4-1. Brown added his second goal on a power play at the 10:45 mark to make it a 5-1 game. Kenny Loeffler got into the scoring column for the Blackhawks at the 3:07 mark as the lead went to 6-1. Later in the period, Carroll scored twice to extend the lead to 8-1. The Tigers got on the board again with just 23 seconds left when Cooper scored on an assist from Brian Carothers. The Blackhawks took a commanding 8-2 lead into the final period. Early in the third period, Gaertner scored an unassisted goal to cut the margin to 8-3, but NA would not score again. Goals by Carroll and Trocano finished off the BP scoring as they won by a 10-3 score. Senior Nick Bradley was in goal for the Tigers. With the loss, the Tigers record dropped to 3-3 in PIRHL play. NA is currently in fifth place.
