TIGER TEAMS DOWN LEBO TWICE
ON ALUMNI NIGHT

Meet Results

With many NA alumni on hand, the Tiger teams took care of Mt. Lebanon on Thursday night at the Senior High pool winning both meets.  The boys continued their undefeated ways by downing Lebo by a score of 99-78.  NA won 12 of the 13 events with senior captain Matt Scherer leading the with wins in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events.  Senior Rob Meyers captured the 50 and 100 freestyle races while junior Nate Kurtanich took the 100 butterfly with senior Brendan Kirsch finishing first in the 100 breaststroke.

The Lady Tigers improved their record to 3-1 with a 102-78 victory over the Blue Devils.  Junior Jamie Chakany won both the 50 and 500 freestyle events to pace NA.  Senior Ashley Ferraro captured the 100 butterfly and junior Cait Cready was victorious in the 100 freestyle.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again after the winter break when they travel to Shaler on Thursday, January 4,  to begin section play. The scheduled starting time is set for 6:00 pm for the swimming only meet.

TIGER BOYS DUNK BETHEL PARK, 112-69; BLACKHAWKS EDGE LADY TIGERS, 94-85

Meet Results

The Tiger boys defeated Bethel Park, 112-69, on Tuesday night at Bethel by winning all twelve swimming events.  Junior Jack Crellin won the 200 freestyle and  100 backstroke, senior Brandon Smith took the 200 individual medley, senior John Nolan captured the 50 and 100 freestyle and senior Brendan Kirsch took first in the 100 breaststroke.

The Lady Tigers lost to the top-ranked Blackhawks, 94-85, but swam some season best performances.  Junior Jamie Chakany led the way with first place finishes in the 50 and 500 freestyle events.  Juniors Jessica Shearer and Kara Stone also contributed with season best swims in their respective events.

On Thursday night, the Tigers will host Mt. Lebanon on Alumni Recognition Night.  All alumni attending on Thursday will be recognized and given a special place in the stands to watch the meet.  The scheduled starting time for the diving is set for 6:00 pm.

GATEWAY FALLS TO TIGER TEAMS

Both the boys and girls' teams were victorious at Gateway on Tuesday night in a non-section meet.  The boys' team downed the Gators, 97-80, while the Lady Tigers trounced Gateway, 107-71.  The individual scores are not available because of a malfunction at Gateway.  We will post the results when we receive them.

TIGER TEAMS SWEEP FRANKLIN REGIONAL
IN DUAL MEET OPENER

Meet Results

Both the boys and girls' teams were victorious in the opening dual meet of the season last Wednesday at the Senior High pool.  The boys defeated the Panthers, 105-76, while the Lady Tigers were victorious by a 105-79 score.

In the boys' meet, the Tigers won six individual races plus two relays while sweeping the 200 medley relay, the 500 free and the 100 breaststroke.  Senior John Nolan won the 200 IM in addition to swimming on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relay squads.  Senior Matt Scherer took the 50 free and was a member of the winning 200 free relay team while freshman Jonathan Buerger won the 100 breaststroke and helped the 200 medley team to victory.  Sophomore Luis Rodriguez captured the 100 fly, freshman Jacob Scherer won the grueling 500 free, and junior Jack Crellin won the 200 free.

Five Tigers took second place points.  In the 200 free, it was senior Brendan Kirsch, in the 500 free, sophomore Trenton Oczypok, and in the 100 breaststroke, senior Rob Meyers.  Freshman Mark Waugh won the 100 fly and swam on both winning relay teams.  Sophomore Devin Glace was second in the diving competition.  Junior Matt Becker swam on both winning relays.

Senior Conor Battle earned third-place points in both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke while sophomore Joey Weiland was third in the 100 free and freshman Sean Battle third in the 500 free.  Sophomore diver Byron Doll took third place. 

The Lady Tigers won seven individual races, sweeping the 200 and 500 free, and the 200 medley relay in beating Franklin Regional.  Junior Jamie Chakany led the way with wins in both the 100 and 50 freestyle races and also anchoring the winning 200 medley relay team.  Junior Kara Stone won the 100 back, took second in the 50 free and swam on the winning medley relay team.  Freshman Kylie Grady won the 100 breaststroke and also was a member of the winning relay team.  Junior Ashley Ferraro took the 100 fly and was the fourth member of the 200 medley relay squad.  Junior Lisa Czerniewski won the 500 free and took second in the 200 free.  Junior Vanessa Carik was first in the 200 free while freshman Courtney Thompson captured the 200 IM.

Sophomore Kara Meyers too seconds in both the 200 IM and 500 free.  Freshman Catie Kirsh captured second in the 100 fly while sophomore Emilie Foley earned second in diving.  Junior Jessica Shearer added third place points in both the 100 and 200 freestyle races.  Sophomore Katie Knable finished third in the 500 free while junior Olivia DeFazio was third in the diving competition.

With the non-section wins, the Tiger teams opened their regular season dual meets with victories.  The Tiger teams will be on the road tomorrow when they visit Gateway for a 6:00 pm non-section meet.

 IUP KICKOFF CLASSIC

Meet Results

The Tigers boys finished first and the Lady Tigers sixth in the IUP Kickoff Classic on Monday afternoon at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  The combined points of the two teams were enough to give NA the overall team title.

The boys' team broke three meet records in winning six overall titles in the meet.  NA eclipsed the meet marks in the 400 medley relay, the 200 free relay (4x50) and the 200 free relay (4x25).  In addition, the team won the 200 medley relay, the 400 free, and the 200 backstroke relay races.

The girls' squad took third in both the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke races.  The Tiger teams were second in the mixed 200 medley and 200 free relays with two boys and two girls on each team.

The Tiger teams will host Franklin Regional tomorrow afternoon at the Senior High pool.  The starting time for the meet has been set for 5:00 pm.

TIGER BOYS FIRST, GIRLS THIRD IN STATE COLLEGE INVITATIONAL

Meet Results

The Tiger boys' team scored 611 points to win the State College Invitational at State College High School on Saturday.  Last year's state champion Emmaus was second and state runnerup State College third in the opening meet of the season.  In the girls competition, the Lady Tigers finished in third place behind Emmaus and State College.

In the boys' meet, the Tigers took three firsts, six seconds and six thirds.  Leading the way for NA was senior Rob Meyers with a first in the 50 free and the 200 free relay, and a second in the 100 free and 400 free relay.  Freshman Mark Waugh won the 100 fly and swam on the second place 200 medley relay.  Also swimming on the winning 200 free relay were senior Matt Scherer, sophomore Luis Rodriguez and senior John Nolan.  The Tigers 200 free relay team with Nolan, Scherer, Meyers and Rodriguez set a meet record.

Senior Brandon Smith added a second in both the 200 individual medley and 400 free relay along with a third n the 100 back.  Nolan took second in the 50 free along with the first in the 200 free relay and a second in the 200 medley relay.  Rodriguez was second in the 100 fly, third in the 200 IM along with his first in the 200 free relay. Scherer finished third in the 100 free to go with his first in the 200 free relay and second in the 400 free relay.

Freshman Jonathan Buerger captured third in the 200 free and swam on the 200 medley and 400 free silver medal relays.  Junior Nate Kurtanich was third in the 100 fly while sophomore Devin Glace finished third in the one meter diving.

The Lady Tigers won two gold, two silver and two bronze in finishing third.  Junior Jamie Chakany was the individual leader with a first in the 50 free along with a second in the 100 free.  Freshman Kylie Grady won the 100 backstroke.  In diving, junior Olivia DeFazio was second and sophomore Emilie Foley took third. The 200 free relay team of junior Cait Cready, freshman Catie Kirsch, junior Jessica Shearer, and Chakany was second in their race.

The Tiger teams will be back in action again this afternoon when they compete in the IUP Relays at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  Meet time is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
