* MATCH SUMMARIES * TIGERS TAKE CARE OF HAMPTON, 40-25, FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN To listen to a replay of the match, click here! The Tigers defeated Hampton, 40-25, at the Senior High gym on Wednesday afternoon. Pins by senior Rob Waltko at 171 and freshman Nick Rodgers at 103 led NA to their fourth consecutive section victory. NA also got technical falls from sophomore Joe Waltko at 119, freshman Andy Candiello at 125, and sophomore Kameron Palagi at 215 as they remained unbeaten in section matches. Senior Ryan McCullough got the Tigers off to a good start with an 8-3 decision over Damon Clark. McCullough had fallen behind, 2-1, after one period but rallied for three second period points to take the lead. At 152, Hampton's Steve Van Atta put the Talbots ahead for the only time in the match with a pin. With NA trailing, 6-3, junior Karl DeCiantis gained a 13-2 major decision over Dave Gentile to put the Tigers on top for good at 7-6. Rob Waltko followed with a second period pin of Ryan Parrish at 171 to increase the margin to 13-6. In a battle of big men, junior Tyler Minto broke a 0-0 tie with a reversal with twenty seconds remaining to earn a 2-0 victory over Patrick Annis at 189. At 215, Palagi dominated Nathan Hunkele for a 15-0 tech fall to push the NA lead to 21-6. Hampton's Joe Ramondi brought the Talbots closer with a 10-3 decision over senior Alejandro Alonso in the 285 pound heavyweight class. At 103, Rodgers pinned Dominic DeRosa with 55.2 remaining in the second period to extend the NA advantage to 27-9. At 112, senior Steve Sabreen won a workmanlike 6-0 victory over John Harrington to push the NA margin to 30-9. At 119, Joe Waltko put the match out of reach with a tech fall of Ryan Craig, winning 17-0 with the match ending in the second period. With the Tigers up, 35-9, Candiello followed with another tech fall at 125 as he defeated Jared Steinmetz, 15-0. Hampton won the final three matches to make the final score more respectable. Jack Hodil picked up a major decision over junior Jason Turner at 130, Nick Matthews won a forfeit at 135, and Gannon Krebs won by fall at 140. It was an unusual varsity weekday afternoon match, but the Tigers controlled the Talbots throughout much of the contest. For his efforts in a second period pin, the North Allegheny Sports Network named senior Rob Waltko as the Outstanding Wrestler of the match. With the win, the NA section record improved to 4-0. The Tigers will be off until after the winter break when they travel to Fox Chapel for a 7:00 pm section match. MATCH

SENECA VALLEY The Tigers won their third straight section match with a 45-16 win over the Seneca Valley Raiders at the Senior High gym on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Andy Candiello, sophomore Dave Cawley and senior Rob Waltko all pinned their opponents on the way to the easy victory. Senior Steve Sabreen got the Tigers off and running with an 8-2 decision over Grant Evans in the opening match at 112. Sophomore Joe Waltko followed with a 15-0 technical fall over Dan Papst at 119 to give NA an 8-0 lead. At 125, Candiello pinned Alex Reddinger at 3:02 to push the margin to 14-0. After sophomore Rick Peluso dropped a close 8-5 decision to Nathan Cully at 130, junior Jason Turner took a 9-0 major over Bart Lalonde to push the NA lead to 18-3. A pin by Cawley over Alex Williams in just 41 seconds at 140 pushed the Tiger advantage to 24-3. At 145, Seneca's Pat Coyne won an 11-3 major decision over senior Ryan McCullough to cut the NA lead to 24-7. Senior Bill Landefeld came back at 152 to edge Frank Mullett, 8-6, to push the score to 27-7. At 160, junior Karl DeCiantis won a hard fought 10-6 victory over Dave Kovach as the Tigers moved to a 30-7 lead. Rob Waltko's pin of Bill Galiotos at 171 clinched the victory for the Tigers as they score mounted to 36-7. At 189, junior Tyler Minto was edged, 6-3, by Zach Cahill, but sophomore Kameron Palagi was able to hold on for a 9-8 victory over Ryan Scheller at 215. After Zach Eckstorm pinned Alejandro Alonso at 285, freshman Nick Rodgers was awarded a forfeit at 103 to complete the scoring as the Tigers won by a 45-16 score. With the win, the Tigers improved their section record to 3-0. NA will host Hampton on Wednesday afternoon at the Senior High gym. The Tigers defeated Avonworth, 44-24, in a section match at the Senior High gym on Wednesday night. Pins by sophomore Joe Waltko, senior Ryan McCullough and junior Karl DeCiantis led NA to the second section win without a loss. The match started at 112 with senior Steve Sabreen picking up a forfeit win to give NA a 6-0 advantage at the outset. At 119, sophomore Joe Waltko built a 5-0 lead after the first period on his way to a pin of Bryon Brown with 19.9 seconds remaining in the second period to push the NA lead to 12-0. At 125, freshman Andy Candiello put on an impressive performance in a 9-1 major decision over Conrad Branchen. With NA leading 16-0, Ben Kramer of the Antelopes came back to edge Jason Turner, 5-2, at 130 to cut the lead to 16-3. At 135, Andrew Puciata won a tough match over sophomore Rick Peluso, 4-2, as the lead was reduced to 16-6. After sophomore Dave Cawley won by forfeit at 140, McCullough turned it on in the second period to pin Dustin Cutenese with 7.1 remaining to extend the Tiger lead to 28-6. At 152, Brenden Cutenese pinned senior Jeff Wolf in the second period to cut the NA lead to 28-12. At 171, senior Rob Waltko controlled Justin Okinsky throughout the match on his way to a 12-1 major decision as the Tigers clinched the victory with a 38-12 advantage. Curtis Strange used a big first period to build a 6-2 lead on his way to a 10-5 win over junior Tyler Minto at 189. At 215, a late third period rally by sophomore Kameron Palagi was not enough as Ron Heinold held on for a 10-6. At 285, Adam Harvey pinned sophomore Max Fischer who moved up from 215. To close out the victory, freshman Nick Rodgers picked up a forfeit win at 103 as the Tigers prevailed, 44-24. It was a good overall performance by the Tigers in the home opener. For his efforts in a second period fall, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Ryan McCullough as the Wrestler of the Match. The win improved the NA section record to 2-0 in the early season. The Tigers will host Seneca Valley on Saturday afternoon in a section match with the starting time set for 2:00 pm. MATCH

SECOND IN Senior Rob Waltko captured the silver medal in the 171 pound weight class in the prestigious Iron Man Invitational at Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio on Saturday. Waltko edged Cory Peltier of Blair Academy (NJ), 6-5, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal match, Waltko won by default when Cody Magrum of Oak Harbor (OH) was unable to continue because of injury. In the final, Mikey Benefiel of Montini Catholic (IL) outlasted Rob, 10-7, to win the title. At 160, junior Karl DeCiantis was defeated in the quarterfinals by Sean Nemec of tournament champion St. Edward who took a technical fall with a 19-3 score. DeCiantis lost in the consolations to Mike Mahon of Archbishop Moeller (OH), 7-3. At 119, sophomore Joe Waltko was defeated by Nikko Triggas of Campolindo (CA), 7-0. Joe was also defeated in the consolation round by Andrew Willis of Tabb (VA), 9-8. In the other consolation match involving an NA wrestler, Dave Cawley defeated Joe Newland of Graham (OH), 5-2, before falling to Steve Nestor of Reynolds (PA), 3-2. FRIDAY'S SUMMARY Three Tigers won two matches on Friday in the Iron Man Invitational at Walsh Jesuit in Ohio to advance to the quarterfinals. At 119, sophomore Joe Waltko pinned David Putnam of Progressive Christian (MD) and dec. Zeke Hofer of Ponderosa (CO) to advance. Today Joe will face Nikko Triggas of Campolindo (CA) in the quarters. At 160, junior Karl DeCiantis pinned Mitchell Fadenholz of Elyria (OH) and decisioned Keith Witt of Oak Harbor (OH), 5-3, to move into the quarterfinals against Sean Nemec of St. Edward (OH). At 171, senior Rob Waltko pinned both Kenneth Berry of Parkersburg South (WV) and Paul Bozsic of St. Vincent-St. Mary (OH). In the quarters, Rob will meet Cory Peltier of Blair Academy (NJ). At 140, sophomore Dave Cawley dec. Mikey Vassar of Foothill (CA), 6-5, before dropped a close 10-8 decision to Germane Lindsey of Archbishop Moeller (OH). In the consolations, Cawley dec. Nick Hefllin of Perry (OH), 4-1, to stay alive. Cawley will wrestle Joe Newland of Graham (OH) in his next match. Also in the consolation round at 103, freshman Nick Rodgers dec. Zak Vargo of St. Vincent-St. Mary's (OH), 8-2, before being eliminated by Mike Scavuzzi of Revere (OH), 5-2. in the 112 consolation round, senior Steve Sabreen dec. Dalton Monto of of host Walsh Jesuit, 2-1, beofre being pinned by Zach Neibert of Graham (OH). All of the other NA wrestlers were unable to win a match in the tough tournament. In the team competition, the Tigers scored 47 points to finish in 25th place in the tournament. The Tiger team will be back in section action again on Wednesday when them meet Avonworth in the home opener. 79-0, The Tigers recorded ten pins on their way to an easy 79-0 victory at Knoch on Wednesday night in the section opener. In addition, the Tigers picked up two forfeit wins and won two matches by decision without giving up a point. The Tigers dominated the match in every weight class. After freshman Nick Rodgers decisioned Dylan Leslie, 5-0, at 103, the Tigers won seven consecutive matches by fall. Senior Steve Sabreen at 112, sophomore Joe Waltko at 119, junior Jason Turner at 125, freshman Andy Candiello at 130, sophomore Rick Peluso at 135, sophomore Dave Cawley at 140, and senior Ryan McCullough at 145 all pinned their opponents. At 152, senior Bill Landefeld took a 10-0 major decision over Nash Leslie. After Karl DeCiantis won by fall at 160, senior Rob Waltko won by forfeit at 171. NA closed out the victory with a pin by junior Tyler Minto at 189, a forfeit win by sophomore Kameron Palagi at 215, and a pin by senior Alejandro Alonso at 285. With the win, the Tigers opened their section season with a 1-0 record. NA will travel to Walsh Jesuit this weekend to compete in the prestigious Iron Man Invitational. Matches are scheduled to get under way at 2:00 pm on Friday and will continue on Saturday with the starting time set for 10:00 am. MATCH

PLACE IN Junior Karl DeCiantis at 160 and sophomore Joe Waltko at 119 won individual titles to lead the Tigers to a third place finish in the Eastern Area tournament at Gateway High School on Saturday. Senior Bill Landefeld at 152 and Steve Sabreen at 112 won silver as the Tigers totaled 188 points to finish behind Kiski Area and Penn-Trafford. In the championship matches, DeCiantis decisioned Dan Matthews of Penn-Trafford, 11-9, while Joe Waltko won a 6-3 decision over Mike Spisak of Kiski Area. Sabreen was defeated by Zach Cecchetti of Kiski, 6-1, while Landefeld lost to Dennis Fix of Norwin, 6-4, in overtime. Taking bronze medals for the Tigers were freshman Nick Rodgers at 103, senior Ryan McCullough at 145, and senior Rob Waltko at 171. Sophomore Kameron Palagi took fourth place in the 215 pound weight class. In the consolation finals, Rodgers decisioned Dylan Corey of Burrell, 7-1, McCullough took a 6-4 victory over Adam Petrosky of Central Cambria while Rob Waltko won by a 12-6 decision over Jon Moore of Kiski Area. Palagi was pinned by Garrett Gibson of Penn-Trafford at the 4:14 mark. The Tigers will begin section play on Wednesday when they travel to Knoch. Action is scheduled to get under way at 7:00 pm.
